Caffeinefree

CAGiversary!
EDIT - If you see any deals in your local Kmart post it in this thread. Spread the love. This post is no longer being curated so check the last post for YMMV local deals.

20% OFF SALE ON NOW UNTIL THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE. (*Gwarr... Brains...*)

NOTICE

I am no longer affiliated with Kmart, so this isn't getting any future updates. Stay tuned to the latest post in the comment section. THANKS!

I looked into the plan for this fire-sale, and apparently they'll be rolling out clearance deals for the whole section. So 20% off, then 50%, or whatever comes to pass. Looks like different regions are getting different sales sooner than others, as well as higher volume stores getting different sales than lower ones. IF YOU HAVE INSIDE INFO, POST IN THIS THREAD SO CAGS IN YOUR AREA CAN GET A HEADS UP.

TIPS & TRICKS

  • All deals are YMMV.
  • Kmart bases it's clearance on how long an item has been in stock. It takes a few weeks, but even the most expensive items go on clearance.
  • ALWAYS ASK SOMEONE TO SCAN AN ITEM FOR YOU. Most older games are on clearance, but have not been labeled as such.
  • Lookout for "penny items", items that have been on shelf for so long they've been clearanced down to 0.01. They won't sell for that, but it's a great way to get GTA IV for $2.00, for example.
  • TAKE A PICTURE AND PRICE MATCH.  For Walmart and other retailers, this is all they need to price match. Make sure the label is clearly visible and don't forget to post it here and share the love.

Background Info
So I am an employee of Kmart and happened to see this memo pass through my local store. I can't repeat it verbatim, and I couldn't get a picture of the message due to being constantly on camera.

Basically the memo stated the "exit strategy" for the games section in retail stores. Stating that this was in essence brought on by having overstocked shelves (bwa hahaha) and not enough customers. However Kmart.com, Sears.com, and Shopyourwayrewards.com, would continue to sell games and consoles to meet peoples needs. So they're switching focus from retail to online.

The message continued to explain to sell down merch and fill the empty space with other merch. Eventually to clearance out the whole section if it didn't sell down.

So firstly, wait. Just wait and deals will come.

As a customer I have to say that Kmart has had nothing but crappy deals for the past few years. (On games) Focusing on SYWR points and mediocre sales to bring in customers rather than staying competitive with Amazon, Walmart, and pretty much any retailer that will actually give a deep discount. Therefore they have shot themselves in the foot and driven away most business. As a result of that they face what I call "the burger problem".

When Kmart doesn't get games in to sell, they can't sell them. But instead of getting more stock I guess they just say "X person doesn't want Y game". This is just like a survey of a small town saying no one in the town likes burgers, because no one eats burgers. Only to find out there is nowhere to eat burgers in the first place.

Why doesn't Kmart get games to sell? I don't know if Kmart as a whole does this, or just my store, but we don't get games on a truck. We get them in sporadically via UPS, and never before release date. We get limited quantities and then get restocks oddly. Over the holidays I got dozens of calls for titles we wouldn't get in for weeks. During Christmas we only got a handful of Xbox Ones and no PS4s, and since then only one Wii U and one 3DS XL, which may have been returns. In short they could be making money, but there is just some really bad policies in place that leave plenty of customers walking out the door.

Then on top of that we barely make any money in markup. We buy games basically at cost, given only a few dollars. I've seen games we bought for 58.50 selling for $60. Same for all peripherals, a 20 charger may have costed 12 for us. I was really shocked about this when I first started looking into it. Whereas other sections of the store have a markup that's understandable.

So now after all this poor management, they're getting rid of what has always been the best part of the electronics section - games. I remember there being something said about "better serving our customer's needs", the problem in the first place was that they didn't serve our needs. For the most part they were poorly stocked, AND THIS HAS KILLED THEM THE MOST.

:wall: went and saw some copies of evolve and asked for a price check only to be told they were full price (which he did without scanning). Only some wii and ds shovelware was on sale

The only game I saw was Flingsmash without the Wii Remote included. It scanned for $49.99 at the price checker (I wasn't going to buy it but I wanted to see what the discount % was)

Snagged myself a Bioshock Ultimate Rapture edition for $14 new last Friday! I've been looking for this badboy new and below $20 for some time now. Now I can finish the trilogy and hand it down to my lil bro so he can experience Bioshock!

Picked up a new Nyko PS4 charge base for $6.30. All remaining MJ experience, Sing it, & Reel fishing were cleared out for $0.50 to be used for the next Microsoft store trade in promo  ;). Thanks OP for the update!

My Kmart has so many Sing Its that I didn't have a need to buy them, UNTIL you mentioned the Microsoft Store promo! I totally forgot about it so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to stock up for it!

I picked up EVERYTHING gaming related they had left, which was

19x Sing It (PS3)
3x MiCoach (360)
2x Deepak Chopra's Leela (360)
1x Hollywood Workout (360)
1x Millionaire (Wii)
2x Truth or Lies (Wii)
2x Just Sing (DS)
2x America's Test Kitchen (DS)
Nyko PS4 Power Pak (that won't even work with my controller)
PS3 Analog/Trigger set

All for a total of $20 and change! Hopefully the promo pops up soon!

Nice haul. That's like 25 games for $12.50, right? Yeah, it's definitely going to come in handy when Microsoft Store does their own trade in promo.

I cleared our my only local KMart with what's left of their 90% off games and 70% off gaming accessories which only had:

2x Sing It (PS3)

2x Michael Jackson: The Experience (PS3)

2x Reel Fishing: Angler's Dream (Wii)

Battleship (DS)

Band Hero (PS2)

Nyko PS4 2 controller charge base

2x Alphaline dual USB charging cables for PS3

all for $14 and some change.

Hey, Michigan CAGs, can you confirm that the Alma K-Mart is closing? That's the news I heard from my mother, who lives about twenty miles away. I don't think it really matters one way or the other, since they're no longer selling video games, but I was just curious.

I am driving through tomorrow morning (headed to the bridge) I thought about stopping in to see if there was anything left game-wise. I'll let you know if I out anything

Much appreciated.
Yeah it has signs all over saying it is closing.

The good: I walked in and saw probably the most games I have seen at a kmart since christmas. There must have been 3 full shelves plus more shelves of accessories and some di and skylander stuff.

The bad: it was all marked "store closing 10% off tagged price" which looked like the first round of clearance pricing and scanned accordingly.

Thanks. Oh man though, that's totally weak! My mother was just complaining about the store's charitably named "clearance" prices. Too bad the game prices are no better than all the other merchandise. And K-Mart wonders why it's struggling.

Is anyone around the Doylestown PA Kmart? It would save me a trip if you told me if you cleaned it out already.  O:)

Kung Fu Panda 2 360 $.16

wow!   those are amazing prices!    you guys got crazy good deals.

my kmart had some pretty good ones, but they are all sold out.    i grabbed some!

Is the in-store function of the website accurate?  Were there games that were still in stock at your store but it's list doesn't even appear when you searched thru your store's inventory online?  (I don't mean that it says it's oos or not sold within 50 miles of your location message, I mean the item doesn't even come up when I search for it unless I go to the direct link itself.

If you're looking for games or systems at a brick and mortar Kmart, they will have literally nothing left at this point. There's 5 or 6 around me and they haven't had anything for a month now.

Don't forget consoles and portables of all gens for $25, PS4 X1, 360, PS3, 3DS, DS, etc etc

99.9% chance there aren't any left at your local kmart though.
Are you sure about that? (the price, not the finding them part)

yeah they were all $25 three days ago, none in 50 miles from me though. I just went now to see things and they are not appearing, only the red 3DS XL for$25. Prices vary by region though :)

Decided to swing by a K-Mart after seeing this thread. They only had Michael Jackson Experience on DS for $2 and Disney Infinity Avengers starter pack (with Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow figures) for $58.

Did a price check on Disney Infinity and found it was $3. INSTANT BUY for me!

Awww wish I had checked this out sooner coz all local Kmarts closed long time ago, There's a Kmart on north end of the county and I live on the far south end of the county..., and when I search for games, only 1 game shows up, and it's $2 at the local.kmart.com site, on the regular site I can even order to pick up in store (which iirc means they have at least 3+ copies, if they had 3, I think it switches to Limited/Low Stock status? Less than 3 then it says OOS i think) just wondered if the online site listed everything the store carries... it's not shovelware coz the game showing up had gamerankings of over 84% and metacritic 82 too, dont want to take drive all the way there to find they indeed only have that one game left, I could only flip to GS credit for $7 profit each game, not sure if worth coz I already traded that game in at GS last month 2x lol. Has anyone who knows their store still has certain games at it, checked the online site after or while they're in store and couldn't find it being listed at all. Dunno how thorough Kmart is with listing everything. I know Sears on the other hand doesn't list everything they have in store at the website.

Well, if it's showing up on the local site, it might be worth a drive out there.  It could be a stock error, but there are always those cases where something is left behind because everyone figured there would be nothing left.  Hell, Seasick Pirate posted right before you that he found a Disney Infinity 2.0 set, so you never know.

That being said, I have no idea how the limited/low stock thing works.  I never trusted Kmart's attention to their inventory so I never used it.

all the ones near me are out of games. I found a Blue 3DS for $90. Tempting, but it was just the system, not even in the box. I'm kind of regretting it now...

Some shovelware and a Ds copy of scribblenauts collection at the grove city oh Kmart.

Brice rd has a couple skylanders three packs and that's it. (I grabbed jd 2014 360 and an infinity 2.0 ps4 set)

I have not been at Kmart since they did not change from 80% to 90% off. I guess it is still 80? The topic is almost dead.

No. All games, regardless of what they are are now $2. All accessories are now $3. The only ones that don't follow these rules are very new games and accessories that were either never part of the clearance like Dragonball Xenoverse, or games that were so old, they were already removed from the system before clearance started, like a copy of Dead Rising 2 I got on :360: .

Also probably the copy of Guitar Hero III 360 that I ran across that rang up $29.99 a couple weeks ago.
