Why not both!? Depending on what you want to do, I'd get Kinect if you just want the convenience of the voice commands and you've got you're cable box going through your Xbox. If you're even slightly into competitive gaming, the controller would probably serve you best.

It's not pretty. My girlfriend and I have an Xbox in our room that does not have a Kinect. She always complains about having to get out of bed to turn off the Xbox like some type of Neanderthal (although she can probably accomplish this with the new UI or Smart Glass). I tend to hog our living room, so she gets pretty jelly when I turn on my whole entertainment system with only my voice. I don't blame her, I do have the voice of an angel.

The XB1 can't emulate 360 code efficiently, it's not powerful enough to do it on the fly. Since they aren't going the streaming route like Sony, the most likely implementation of XB1 backwards compatibility involves creating x86 ports of the 360 games. It explains why you still need to download the BC game rather than install off a 360 disc.

It's probably possible to create them using the original 360 executable code, which would take a lot of the overhead involved in straight emulation out of the equation. The problem with this method is the XB1 x86 code is a derived work under copyright law, which would require sign offs on copyright holders (the original dev / publisher, and any licensed content). Emulating on the fly would create a similar derived work, but I'm pretty sure copyright law allows for this through an interoperability loophole. It views the derived work created within a computer's memory as a consequence of using the program differently from one created that's sitting on a hard drive / server that isn't actively being used. I'm pretty sure the legal stance on emulators for older game consoles is the emulators themselves are legal (though patents could be used to block some implementations), the legal issues surround the game ROMs.

 
After playing Halo 5 last night I have a few comments.

I really enjoy the squad based campaign. It switches it up from just being master chief and running through solo again.

Personally I like SWAT and the new single life multiplayer and I can see myself playing a lot of it. That being said, those modes are not for everyone and the more casual Warzone mode doesn't feel like it has a lot of lasting power for the population at large.

I can see why Halo 5 will most likely spike down in population once Star Wars Battlefront comes out since after playing the beta, that has a very casual feel to it and it will serve a bigger population of gamers looking for a run and gun shooter.

Although I love Halo and will play this a ton, I can see realistically that it won't be what Microsoft was aiming for. Battlefield Star Wars and Call of Duty are still going to be eating part of there lunch.

I'm a "longtime fan" and I like it just fine. I'm also not some perpetually-disappointed whiner that refuses to accept when games try to do something different, so I'm in the minority.

Diamond 1, it was frusterating last night though cuz I realized if I just kept playing it was not saving any of my games or stats. I had to back out after each game and then search again or it wouldn't save my stats. I played 18 games to get 10 saved to be ranked at all. It seems like 343 struggles at going from one match to another without going to the lobby each time.

I'm still getting used to the controls in Halo 5 and some of the hit boxes seem to not be synced up as well as they could be but I might have been lagging, I got a couple head shots that seemed like I should have missed and vice versa.

It only left me with time to do 1 Warzone match, which I got dropped in a match we were down in but I got 22 kills and we ended up winning by 20 pst.

I've been reading a lot of negative reviews about Halo 5. One common denominator remains: no split-screen coop. It's kinda a big deal if you wanna play with your family. Shit and I wanted to play w/ my brother, guess not. Unless the patch will be out by they time I buy Halo 5, lol MS has plenty of time to make it happen.

And Amazon reviews keep killing the game, out of 200+ reviews Halo5 has 3 stars. I have a feeling that stars will keep falling down as reviews grow.

The one problem I had couple of times is, I start a warzone game and as soon as it loads, it says I am respawning. WTF, it didnt even start and I died? I mean, I suck at the game as it is and understand that I would go on to die a ton of times, but preempting it like that is really mean.

I had lot of fun otherwise; Darby & blinknot, not so much. I could literally (exhaggeration) hear them hitting their head against the wall lol

Well since no one will comment on the Evil Within bundle, are there any Madden X1 players here? I'm about to go trade it in because I can't seem to play more than 1 game on Ultimate Team without losing connection to the EA servers or some such garbage. It's only Madden, no other EA games have this problem for me.
 
Amazon reviews are horse shit. A lot of those overly negative 1 Star reviews are Sony trolls bashing the game because its an Xbox game, nothing more. And then you have people giving it one star just because of no splitscreen. That's just stupid.

Wii U rant
Just started using Netflix on Wii U this week and realized how much I use those voice commands. Wii U desperately needs them because the controller needs to be on to even watch Netflix, but the controller plays the show/movie on it at the same time so battery drains after a couple episodes if not on charger.

I'll be trying the new NFS tonight and I hope they didn't take out Kinect commands. When running from the police, asking the gps to show how to get to the closest safe house will save your ass in online sessions where you can't pause.

It's actually just "Xbox on" or "Xbox turn off". I wish they would add "Xbox, engage" to it. How cool would that sound?

They've backtracked on Blitz, it's going to remain in the competitive list.

I've solely played KOTH in MP, but am glad a ring mode game is staying competitive for Seriously progress. Will need to get a win in Assassination before it disappears for the "win in every mode" achievement. Don't want to have to wait for it to cycle in as a special event to notch that check box.

Also glad to see Rooftops and Bullet Marsh pulled from the map cycle. Rooftops is too much of a PITA to get around and has some wonky spawn points. I just get lost on Bullet Marsh without the additional paths that were added in Gears 3.
