Dirt 3 on Games with Gold is requiring people to buy the $10 online pass to play online. That's pretty damn shitty, since when do digital games not always come with online passes. They probably had to go in and manually gimp the game in order for the MP to not be included.
Yeah, people in the XBL deals thread were reporting that the pass came with the game when they bough it earlier, so they specifically went in and removed it before it got added to GWG. Xbox really does keep finding new ways to fuck up this whole free game thing and make it look much, much worse than what Plus offers.

Is that The Man Who Sold the World? That was pretty much my reaction, too.

Sorta spoiler

Though I'm still trying to figure out if that twist actually makes sense with the whole MGS timeline.

Don't forget to Youtube mission 51, which was cut for time. No huge revelations or anything, but it wraps up a huge sotryline that was left dangling in the base game.
Some of the theories mentioned in this Reddit thread clarified a few things for me: https://www.reddit.com/r/metalgearsolid/comments/3qeoww/the_miller_theory/

I'm still reeling from the twists in Mission 46, but I still have one question (definitely an ending spoiler):

How does Solidus figure into all of this? Neither he nor George Sears (his "persona" as US President) are mentioned in the timeline shown at the end of MGS V.

I do plan on watching Mission 51, but not until I actually finish all of the main missions, particularly 45 where
Quiet leaves.

lol

My soundtrack shipped earlier today. Now just waiting for Best Buy to ship my game. Let us know your thoughts about the game, I'm sure it'll be insane.

Sage the game and cd soundtrack are up still for pre-order at $50.
Yeah I saw that, can't justify the extra ~30$ cost over GCU just to get the soundtrack though. I'll just grab the game from bby.

No. You protect central hubs and kill the enemy spawners as fast as you can. I wish you could assign members of your team to do different things but they basically all just follow you around which is kinda dumb, so there's also a lot of running back and forth between hubs and enemy spawn points.

Some missions you just have to kill enemies and bosses without protecting anything. That's about as varied as it gets.

Yeah it's super colorful and looks great, but deep down it's just a musou game. There's no strategy to the combat, I was basically just spamming special moves with my character then swapping to the next one and doing the same thing. Such stark contrast to a game like Transformers which I just got finished playing. The genre's just not for me, I don't have 20-30 hours of it in me to beat the main campaign then many more hours for cleanup. It'll probably end up going to Best Buy on Wednesday.
I've beaten one Dynasty Warriors game, back on PS2, and pretty much one's enough for a decade or more as they are mostly all the same.

ac syndicate postmortem:

anyone that thinks that this isn't the best assassin's creed game that's come out in the past 5 years might be crazy.  it's really good.  it has its foibles like every ac game but it has enough pros to offset it.  if you already don't like ac games it will not bring you in to the fold - I think that ship has already sailed, they're never going to change the formula at this point.

pros:

  • improved combat is improved
  • looks pretty.  the unity engine doesn't look quite as sexy as unity did for whatever reason but the performance (for me at least) was solid.  the next gen crowd thing is so seamless (with smaller crowds than unity) that you don't even notice that you just walked through 50+ people until you turn around.
  • the driving isn't nearly as terrible as it could've been, it's actually kind of fun
  • finisher animations are nuts and plentiful.  as I approached the end I still saw one or two that I hadn't seen previously.
  • for the first time since brotherhood everything seems to have a purpose.  every weapon is useful - throwing knives are essentially op, the stun grenade is tits, gunplay is incredibly common vs previous games, etc.  chests actually have stuff you need in them.  side activities provide worthwhile rewards that don't feel purposefully gimped to lengthen the game.  fight clubs and races are actually fun.  gang cohorts (equivalent of ac:b's recruits) are useful for a lot of situations.  freeing enemy territory actually makes main story missions easier/more fun.

cons:

  • not much of the present day story.
  • a couple dumb grindy trophies but nowhere near as bad as ac3 or unity's chests, I miss the fun ones they used to include.
  • some people seem to think the characters are grating, I thought they were totally fine and even kind of fun.
  • the past story does feel like it starts to drag at about halfway
  • there were also review complaints about the ending?  but it's pretty much just like every other ac final boss so whatevs.
So, there it is.  Another year another creed game.  I'm definitely ready for a 350 day hiatus and I'll gladly go take my $42 or whatever from best buy today.

I agree. Nuff said.

Nevermind I do need to say something else. I actually missed getting a trophy for finding chests. There werent as many as before and I colllected a ton of them anyway for money and trinkets so I would have liked a reason to go after the rest. I would have rather done that than pharmed for train or counter kills.

Seems like a list of every title that has ever been a steep discount on the store.

Leader in the clubhouse already for most ignorant comment.

I like the variety just wish there was a way to actually purchase certain games and own the digital rights instead of rentals
How about just buy the game you want on PSN?

The Titans fired Whisenhunt?  Did they think they had the roster to actually be good or is it because the Colts are such hot garbage they think any tiny boost could get them into the playoffs or something?

For those that were doing this (not me), don't forget that today is the last day for the spend $100 with your PSN wallet, get $15 credit thing.

Anyone here ever done a midnight pickup for CoD? I'm trying to gauge how much effort I'm going to have to put in to get my brothers (early) christmas present. Not sure if I should expect a larger crowd than the destiny midnight or what. I'd just wait until after work to grab it, but the plan is to get the game to my dad Friday during the day so that my brother will be his problem and not mine lol. He's been bugging them about it already for almost a month.

I'd have just let them handle it in general, but they'd have ended up paying $60 and missing out on GCU/ preorder bonus/ preorder cert for minimal effort on my part.

Liked for not letting your parents over spend.

I dont know about the CoD midnight madness but I would imagine its pretty busy in densely populated areas.

Is Best Buy not close enough to work to be able to run out at lunch to grab it or is that when the hand-off to dad is going to take place?

If you have to do the midnight thing, I would just show up a bit later so you aren't waiting in line long with all the people wanting to be first.

I don't recall if there was a discussion here about it, but what was the verdict on the UC collection? I played 3 on PS3, but not 1 or 2.

The verdict is you're a big dummy for not having played 2 before and you should remedy that now.
But Blops 3 is almost here and if you don't play on release, the 10 year olds will be better than you next time you log in... Then its Fallout Tuesday next. fuck.

I did the Midnight launch for Ghosts. Really not that big a deal. 15 people maybe? I am not in NYC but still a decently populated area. They broke it up into a couple of groups and got you in and out pretty fast. I want to say 15 mins. I was off the next day so decided to do a midnight pickup. Usually I just do the day after and pick it up though. Moving towards just ship it to me on release day though.

I didn't even have my PS4 yet.

Fallout 4 is the game where you walk in bland rooms that all look the same and shoot the occasional bad guy. That's what I took away from the leaked footage, anyway.

It's maybe 20 minutes away from work. A little too far for comfort on the clock as I'm really the only one handling office phone calls and for whatever reason 11-2pm seems to be when most people call.

I'm hoping its not too bad since I just have to go to the pickup counter instead of waiting for them to be able to ring people up, but I can't remember if the registers at my bby actually lock out the sales making a huge line to navigate/avoid of people who didn't just pay online or what.

Worth it. UC1 is the least improved and its noticeably a first effort, but the collection as a whole is great. If you haven't played them get it for sure.

I ended up importing the special edition that came with a steelbook, stickers and hardcover artbook. I wanted to have its steel right next to the Uncharted 4 steel. I also ended up switching out the disc for a US copy for just an additional $10. Its a really nice set.

I watched a Gametrailers video yesterday. Top 10 scariest moments. One of them was from this game. I am too scared to even play it now. I am a pussy.
It's really not scary. There's some jump scares as you get used to the trollish shit they put in the game but as long as you approach it like you don't care about dying it's stupid fun. checkpoints are generous enough. I wish I could bring myself to snag another copy and do another of the trophy playthroughs (collectibles, speed run, super hard mode) but it's too much of a time commitment with all the other stuff that's available now. someday though.

fond troll memories (spoilers - this game is definitely best played without knowing about the bullshit):

proximity bomb around the corner of a room you run in to trying to hide

having invisible enemies in precisely one area of one level but never knowing if they'll show up later in the game

after beating safehead guy, walking past a bunch of safes on the ground until you decide that they're not a threat and then one near the end of the chapter jumps up and attacks

early on ravik that's invincible and can appear in front of you after you run away from him

bear traps. whirling blade room.

the shitty camera/letterboxing

hilarious ending

I really did love that game.
