100 Atari Vault Classic Games Heading Towards Steam

According to the press release from Atari, the jam-packed Atari Vault will boast a metric ton of old-school games, including the likes of Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command, Tempest and Warlords, just to name a few.

In case you were born semi-recently, we don’t want you to think that this is the video game version of the 2015 comedy classic, Pixels. Terrible jokes about terrible movies aside, this is shaping up to be the most complete Atari collection you can find in one place. There have been other compilations based on the beloved console in the past, but none have promised anywhere near this many titles crammed under one roof.

According to the announcement, you shouldn’t just expect direct ports of the classic games, either. Arriving on Steam this spring, Atari Vault will boast several modern bells and whistles, including multiplayer capabilities, online leaderboards and the like. There will also be support for the Steam Controller, for those of you who are aching for such a feature.

If you happen to be attending PAX South in like a week, then you’ll actually be able to try out Atari Vault on the showroom floor.

The press release also promises an upgraded user interface for the games, as well as improved precision control. What won’t be messed with, however, are the graphics and the original soundtracks. They want you to enjoy some new features, but not change the overall experience of these arcade classics.

While only a handful of those 100 games have been announced so far, we’d be interested in hearing what our readers hope to see added to the collection in the comments section below. With 100 games in the package, chances are looking pretty good that, so long as your game isn’t super obscure, it’ll make the cut.

Unfortunately, no price point has been announced yet, so we’ll keep you posted as soon as that information becomes available.

In a year that will likely be dominated by new games like Horizon: Zero Dawn, Uncharted 4 and No Man’s Sky, it’s nice to see there’s still love for the classics going around. What will be really interesting to see is how many newcomers to classic gaming will take the time to dive into something like Atari Vault. Folks who are driven by nostalgia are obviously the target market here but, in an age where the youngsters seem to love trying out experiences of yesteryear, we’re curious if games like Atari Vault will find a fan base amongst all of those whippersnappers.

Motoki, where are you buying panties?

Is there a pantygate where we can buy russian panties cheaper?  Vladimir's Secret maybe?

Fine in concept but, in reality, the chance of me playing more than two minutes of 1980-style Missile Command or Centipede, even with "leader boards", is zero.  There's already a million emulated versions of these games and I don't play them either.

Certainly not in the Japanese Weeaboo thread. I brought up motaku's post in there and got no feedback.

Nostalgia.....people should play the games they grew up with. They will either find good in ones and appreciate them, see them as pretty meh (likely quite a few) or just say yeah that just was very basic or not that good. It sucks sometimes but those nostalgia googles distort a lot of things very well.

If it has Yar's Revenge, I'll mos def be getting it. Hell I've bought all the FF games for Android/IOS/Steam...they keep finding new ways to get my money (and I am foolish enough to oblige), why should Atari classics be any different?

I don't think that's entirely fair. Many games were good for their time as they were like nothing we've seen before. They've just been outpaced. I played hundreds of hours of Utopia back in the day (grandfather to the God/world sim) but couldn't recommend it over Civilization today. Or I loved Project Firestart (grandfather to the survival horror genre) when I had my Commodore 64 but I'm sure I'd find it plodding and clunky today. Of course they were "basic", they were running on an Intellivision and Commodore 64, respectively. At the time though, they were brand new and innovative.

They should include the 2600 port of Pac-Man where the game couldn't render all four ghosts at the same time so it looked like a single, manically teleporting wraith chasing you.

I don't even care anymore. CAGs gonna CAG.

Besides there's a million other ways that people shit up the thread anyway if they're not being obnoxious over key drops.

I had a really hard time navigating the language barrier but I found this: CDN$ 75.44

Canada bucks are worth about a mackerel so that's a good deal, maybe?
You just have to keep checking back every 3 minutes and posting updates on the price until it becomes a good deal in about, oh, 22 weeks.

In exchange, everyone has to post the cost of Fallout 4 at Amazon in various world currencies. Surely there must be a deal to be had.
Germany...

PC 52,03€ (on Steam 53,62€)

Xbox One 54,90€

PS4 49,99€

BONUS: It's not Low Violence!

Fallout 4 for the PS4 and 360 is $1200 MXN (71 USD.)

Funnily enough now that the Peso's tanked so much, it's actually cheaper to buy. (They used to cost $100.)

I was wondering how I could properly thank Modest. Thanks for showing me the way!

It would have been funnier if you guys let him take it and he boots it up and is like

'Uh, where's the multiplayer? And the Dinosaurs? Guys? Hello?'

GMG has, supposedly, new VIP deals..

Advanced Warefare at what looks to be matching it's low at $17.99,

The Division and FarCry Primal pre-orders at $38.99, Siege at $39.99.

Rest aren't worth it, price wise, from the cursory ISAD search. Also can buy GMG giftcards now (oh boy), and if you enjoy throwing money down the drain, Mystery Bundles are still around plus Still Life 2 is $1.99 (it's been bundles numerous times, and more importantly is god awful).

Poor GMG they've gotten old and toofless and reduced to standing by the side of the road selling crack mystery bundles.

They were already on a steady decline but getting kicked off of reddit for being shady while Shadestock Digital and Shadyrocket and now Shady Downloads are free to advetiSe seems like it was the final blow to them that turned them into a used up ol crack whore.

Five Nights at Freddy's World got removed

FNaF World
JANUARY 25 - SCOTT

Hi everyone, I wanted to make a post about the fate of FNaF World. Even though the game had a "Very Positive" rating with 87%, I was not satisfied with the reviews and ratings it was getting.

For that reason, I've decided to remove the game from Steam. I've also asked Valve to make it so that the game can be refunded regardless of the amount of the time it has been owned, meaning that anyone can get a refund at any time. It may take them a while to set that up, but it will be in place soon.

I'm still going to work on FNaF World and polish it up. I'm busy creating a fully 3D overworld for the game. When I'm ready to update the game, I will replace the demo currently on GameJolt with the full game. From this point forward, the game will always be free.

I appreciate your support, and I encourage you all to refund your Steam game (even if you enjoyed the game), and download the new version when it becomes available on GameJolt. :)

TL;DR - It was a half assed unfinished cash grab missing way too many important features and people called him on his shit. But hey, you can get the game on, uh, GameJolt. Whatever the hell that is.

but can you buy gmg gift cards at 20% off to use on discounted games with another 20% off?
Nein. I'm sure the gift cards will give you GMG credit which won't work with coupons.

EDIT: Just checked it out. It looks like you can also use the gift card at checkout in the same box as you'd enter a discount voucher. Since you can't use both a gift card AND voucher, you can't do it this way either.
