PSNOT 3.0 - Let's Talk About University of Kentucky, Baby!

That's about how I am too though I just dump the refund right into savings. Good insurance for any big problems (new car, laid off, etc.)
I dont blow it all on frivolous things for the most part. I bought my new tires recently on credit, so I can pay that off along with paying down some of my TV and couch purchases even though they are on free credit for the next 2 years. I wont pay it in entirety though as I will save some of my refund and bonus for other items that inevitably come up.

I am going to try and put together a golf trip with some guys this year so I may blow a lot more than usual.

It was explained this way to me once and I think it makes sense. Government is ultimately for the protection of your personal property (your own body and your stuff). You want paved roads to get your stuff from point A to point B without being hassled by marauders. For poor people, the majority of their income is consumed in just maintaining their existence, they have little personal property of consequence. Richer people and large business have more disposable income and unless they are spending a lot of it on expensive services, it is turned into assets and other personal property. The more personal property they have the greater the cost to the government to safeguard it and the more a citizen or company should have to chip in to help pay for it.
I have had it explained to me that way as well. I personally do not buy it. Most of the super rich pay for their own security of their property via insurance. As far as physical protection, many employ body guards to keep them and their families safe. Often they have personal air vehicles to get them from one point to another and with personal body guards they do not have to worry about the marauder case.

There is no amount of money you could have them pay in taxes that would really benefit them in terms of adequate protection from the government.

we're definitely tax refund people.  I don't give a shit if the government uses my money for a while and we always use it on something goofy.  we'll probably take a trip with it this year and have some fun.  being responsible with your money all the time is obscenely boring and I'd rather use it now while we're all young and can enjoy it than have a healthy nest egg to siphon off of when I'm 60 and my kids are all grown up and living their own lives.

i loved working at the dry cleaners cuz i felt we were pulling something over on all the rich people that used our services to just do their laundry. i felt bad working at the hotel cuz we were just screwing poor people out of the lil money they had left especially the extended stay people that we bled dry til we kicked them out. different worlds right across the street from each other

My main issue with fleecing the rich is the opportunity cost. Say a billionaire like bill gates has 10 billion in income and pays what some (uncle bernie) want in taxes which would be 9 billion. Yes he can live easliy off 1 billion but that aint the point. The other 9 billion will not just sit there, it will be invested in some fashion. If you think the government can better allocate resources than a smart business man or the market can, I think you are delusional. The market creates and destroys wealth in the most efficient way, and if the government would just get out of the way, we'd be better off as a whole.

Also, kinda pedantic, but whens the last time a poor person gave you a job?

2K and WB store pages are gone so update is probably pretty imminent.

Looks like some kind of 2 week Atlus sale as Persona 3 portable is 25% off until 2/9.

But they do still rely on the government to protect their loads of intellectual assets like patents and copyrights and the like. They also still rely on police more if shit really goes down. And they arguably use the roads more to transfer all their goods and/or services and/or workers.

If you haven't played it and have any interest in it, Sleeping Dogs is a steal for $10.
I know the game is good and I do have interest in it but I have the PS3 version from PS PLUS. Wondering if it's worth $10 to play it on PS4? If anyone here knows that is.

Nice, will pick up tomb raider for the 7.50, played original on xbox then got the ps4 version at some point from gamefly and only played it a few mins to check out graphic upgrade, screwed up and got a trophy and that 1% on it is bothering me.

Thought it was a good game the first go round, so will play it again for that price.

holy cats dariusburst is showing up in the weekly sale section (still at full price).  20% COUPON ACTIVATE

edit - disgaea 5 too.  hrmmmmmm

As far as patents, no not really. The government issues patents, but they do not protect them unless the holder of the patent goes to court to protect it. The responsibility is still on the patent holder to let the government know if someone is infringing. So I think that is a stretch argument at best. Id argue getting rid of patent protection would be worse for the small guy. Without it nobody could protect a new business. The super rich could just do the exact thing and make all the money. They do not really need patent protection even if they do try to use it as an advantage.

Their workers can't work and have no income if they can't get to work. So that one is at best a chicken and egg argument.

As far as transferring services, I'll agree with that one. However, the cost of road upkeep is usually via ad velorem on vehicles and gas taxes. All of which they would already be paying more for due to more cars and trucks going more places.

I am really considering buying both Tomb Raider and Sleeping Dogs for those prices.  Most definitely getting Sleeping Dogs just to play through it again for more trophies.  Tomb Raider is less likely.

Opposite of you, but yea already bought tr and put it to download on the ps4.

I think I'm going to preorder Odin Sphere's Storybook Edition from Amazon. Unless there are some surprise announcements, there don't seem to be many games releasing around that time (June), so I should be able to make time for it.

Good points.

My argument against your first point would be that the patent/intellectual property holders still use the courts more with tons of lawsuits/cease and desist threats to protect their interests. I don't have any stats to back me up (help a brother out Therm), but I would think that there are more cases of big companies/people trying to stop/protect usage of their shit/contracts then little companies/mom & pop.

The $5 certs for preordering movies is pretty interesting. Anyone know if they've been doing that long?
this is so weird, I was just thinking this morning that they should extend that sort of promo to movies. tomorrow morning I'm going to think about how they need to add $20 certs to every game I want to buy this year.

That I will agree with completely. If you are talking trademark infringement that is a whole other thing entirely from patents. I think most of that is bull shit. Marketing people have gone fucking nuts with the "consumer confusion" shit. I have more faith in the American people not being idiots than they do I guess.

I have serious issues overall with the legal system. Personally I think tort reform should be agenda item #1 for the government to deal with. I think it is more of the root cause of medical costs spiraling out of control than anything else.

Pretty sure I'm going to grab tomb raider this week. Gonna have to look into Sleeping Dogs more though and I wish the PS+ specials list had better pricing.

Jobs exist because there are people spending money at the business in question, or using services from the government organization, thus requiring jobs. So, yes, poor (and rich and everyone in-between) people do create jobs.

Who wants to get those Tomb Raider online trophies? Some need 3 people, but the majority only need 2.
