PSNOT 3.0 - Let's Talk About University of Kentucky, Baby!

I'm impressed at how civil and rational and mature this political discussion has been.  Not to say I didn't already know y'all had that in you, but we've gotten out of control hyperperp on lots of other topics.  But we all just stated our positions and seem to be listening to what each other has to say in a thoughtful way.

tl;dr I lube you assholes

2016 = year of the flashy twin stick shooter confirmed
It looks like it should be a twinstick but I don't think it is. Nothing in the blog post explicitly stated that and the gun firing was intermittent enough that I wondered if it was triggered by a button press rather than analog. There was definitely a charged shot element going on, which supports that. Maybe buttons modify the behavior of the normal twinstick shooting, I dunno.

I know I'm one of the very few people that likes and still plays this game, but... woo hoo Death Star and Cloud City maps!! Cool that they are also adding new maps to existing planets for free. I'm curious to see what new Heroes they will add. Still bummed there will be no episode VII DLC stuff since I can't think of a ton more original trilogy characters I'd like to see.

my wife and i wish we had a multinational family with tons of lil kids of different races etc. it's not out of the realm of possibility but we are probly just gonna be stuck with a bunch of white babies

That second sentence is a bit of a tough one for me. The more I think about the options, I like the idea of a flat income tax. I would like to see a rebate for the working poor though. Give them the best opportunity to get out of the bottom.

I see why people think the rich have gained the most due to our system as the reason for taxing them at a higher rate, but I also think it goes against the original American dream. You do better, so you actually make less of what you earn for that is a tough one for me to swallow.
I wouldnt mind a flat tax either but if we did that I would prefer to not have all these other special interests and rebates and credits etc. Which I know we will never get rid of now. So I would prefer to keep the tiers. I just think that the higher tax rates should apply more to the super rich. If you earn over a million a year even if you pay a slightly higher tax rate than someone making 100K or less, your still way ahead of them. You still earn more than the average person. And since your so wealthy your going to help pay for those less fortunate that need help from the government.

And shouldnt the super rich be happy to help the less fortunate in this great country that allowed them to make such a spectacular income?

I wouldn't be opposed to a flat system with no loopholes and a few different tiers. Any sort of flat system would still be so much better than what we have now. The super rich essentially do not have to pay anything if they hire enough lawyers.

I just like the idea of one simple rate for everyone due to the American dream ideal I mentioned and the possibility of everyone feeling truly equal because they all contribute the same amount. That is probably a pipe dream though.

I thought I posted this earlier, but I can't find it in my history:

Star Ocean 5 character video. Shows some new gameplay:

I've been watching a bit of twitch stream with the witness. It may very well be god's gift to video games, but it definitely looks like one that no one should bother watching on stream because it is b-o-r-i-n-g to watch other people figure out puzzles. it also seems to be one of those 'you have zero idea what's going on' games which means if you watch too much of it you may ruin the life changing experience that is Blow's The Witness(tm).
What? The witness blows? That's too bad!

Quoting this before you can edit it. I am pretty sure I can do a write-in in Georgia. Since you didn't say you had to win, I hope you have a pretty large nest egg.

On a lighter note, the two guys that formed Criterion and created Burnout and Black and are making a golf game called Dangerous Golf where the point is to blow shit up.

No trailer or footage yet, just some gigantic screens.

This is pretty much me with the possible exception of the death penalty (I am conflicted on that one) and the normal Republican view on taxes. I do not think lower taxes is always a good thing. The government has to be able to take care of people that truly need to be taken care of and can not do that without taxes to pay for those programs.
For me, it's not even a moral opposition to concept of the death penalty. It's just that too many mistakes have been made in the criminal justice system to be handing out sentences that can't eventually be corrected if new evidence comes to light. People say repeal it for all but slam dunk cases where there is zero doubt (like the movie theater shooter and the shooter who attacked the Gabby Giffords rally), but I don't trust them to maintain that high standard. Eventually the standards will creep downward again, best to just completely abolish it.

I've got a pretty sizable refund coming my way, too, this year. I can never seem to get the damn exemptions right.
My wife wants to get back a refund because she feels like it is free money. I hate giving the government an interest free loan, but I am happier when she is happier so....

I know its a free loan to the government but with rates so low and knowing I would spend it on dumb shit anyway I never take any exemptions so I get max money back. It makes me feel good about buying something big when I get the refund back. If I had a little extra money through the year I would never really see it anyway.

It is not a moral opposition for me. It is the worry about getting things wrong which I do not think happens all that often, but even one is too many. However, I think there are people that do deserve to die for what they did to society. The money used to keep them housed in a prison for the rest of their lives is money that could be going to children that need it. However, if we managed other things better then the money issue wouldn't be there.

my dog wanders around the apartment whining for 10 minutes when I give him a treat because he can't find somewhere to hide it. On the plus side, I think I just taught him how to "do a barrel roll"

That's about how I am too though I just dump the refund right into savings. Good insurance for any big problems (new car, laid off, etc.)

It was explained this way to me once and I think it makes sense. Government is ultimately for the protection of your personal property (your own body and your stuff). You want paved roads to get your stuff from point A to point B without being hassled by marauders. For poor people, the majority of their income is consumed in just maintaining their existence, they have little personal property of consequence. Richer people and large business have more disposable income and unless they are spending a lot of it on expensive services, it is turned into assets and other personal property. The more personal property they have the greater the cost to the government to safeguard it and the more a citizen or company should have to chip in to help pay for it.

I'm glad John took my suggestion and fixed the "show new replies" popup you get when typing in the reply box. I'm sure it'll be broken again soon, but at least it works for now.

You're welcome.

Ok well maybe mandatory is a bad idea, but I still feel the option should be available for every American if they want it. A company can find a way to get by for 2 to 4 to however many weeks so parents can bond with their new children and as a family. And if McDonalds or Wal-Mart is suffering so much from paying their workers, maybe reduce the pay in your overinflated board or CEO or whoever fuck is making more money than they can spend.
Walmart's CEO makes something like 18 million dollars a year, and they employ 1.2 million workers in the US. Paying the CEO nothing would give the company the ability to give employes a raise of 16 dollars per year.

Speaking of parental leave, my cousin put something good on Facebook yesterday about "The Nazis offered 12 weeks of paid maternity leave and the US offers none. Let that sink in for a minute."

So I'm pretty sure people are batshit crazy when they're implying we would be better off with Nazis running the show.
Keep those spoilers to yourself. Some of us still haven't watched man in the high castle, jerk!

And the executive action thing is tough, on the one hand you don't want one person acting completely unilaterally, but on the other hand when the group that is responsible for doing that work completely shirks it and a need needs to be filled, is the executive just supposed to sit by and do nothing? For all the decrying of executive action by Congress I do think some of them are relieved because then they don't have to go on record making a decision that is necessary, but contrary to the beliefs of those who vote in primaries. Better to let Obama take the heat and then publicly condemn him to rally their base.

edit:

Which I guess one could use as an argument for OR against a wider latitude for executive action. If executive action was highly restricted, then Congress would actually have to do their job for anything to get done and they would (hopefully) be less likely to procrastinate on important issues.
