PSNOT 3.0 - Let's Talk About University of Kentucky, Baby!

Went to play my Vita lunch and the battery is dead. fuck you Sony! It was fully charged yesterday this time and I played maybe an hour. It is like it really isn't sleeping. Will have to see what they fucked up and how to unfuck it.

I did a hard power off yesterday, didn't charge it overnight, and turned off Wi-Fi when I got to work. Still shows battery in the low end of green.

So I guess try hard reset and turn off Wi-Fi when not in use? Until a new stability update comes trudging down the corridors of the internet.

So my wife has been on maternity leave since the end of November when our second son was born. I work from home 2 days out of the week so it's been nice seeing her and the baby, but it is totally cutting into my "pretend-I'm-working-but-actually-playing-games" time. Plus recently she has been binge watching 7th Heaven on Amazon streaming while I work and I kind of want to blow my brains out.

So I guess I'll get Ni No Kuni installed tonight so I can fire it up sometime this weekend. According to the trophy guide it doesn't look like anyting is missable. For anyone that's played it, anything I should know about it before I start?
It's actually pretty boring?

There was too much running around and back-tracking, switching between the fairy world and real world. (Don't all characters share one health pool?)

It looks really pretty, but it doesn't quite deserve the attention it gets.

What does a hard reset do/mean? You mean power all the way off? I will do that turn off Wifi. I usually have it off but think it has been on recently.

it's a jrpg, backtracking and walking too much are par for the course. I'm in it regardles, even if I blitz to the end it's coming off my to-do list.
right, I meant the boring part. I suppose if you don't like jrpgs you'd think it was boring.

And yeah same here, I'd love to get the plat but regardless, this and Rainbow Moon are the two longest games in my backlog so I absolutely have to stop putting them off and just start them already. I can always take breaks for shorter stuff if I feel like finishing something.

I meant I held down the power button until a power off red button appeared on the screen, then tapped that. Then powered it back up sometime later.

Not sure what it does, but someone (in here or in the article someone posted) suggested that method and it seems to work for me.

Goddamnit guys, I get stuck on a bus for one day and it gets awesome in here. I ran out of likes again. Assholes.

As a plus, there's free beer, alcohol, and food. Viva la cooperate sell out!

My wife is home two days out of the week and watches Hart of Dixie all day. Fortunately she's downstairs and I'm upstairs and she keeps the volume pretty low.

That main chick is hot though.

I took one last look in here before bedtime and had to right this wrong... Ni No Kuni is a great game if you're a fan of the style. The game oozes with all the charm of a top rate cartoon film and the the standard rpg fare is tightly put together.

My son and I enjoyed the hell out of this game. I'm not one for grinds, but we platted this game nonetheless.

Jimbob, zimm

I have updated to the newest fw too, no issues out of mine with the battery. Could be the issue but maybe your battery really is starting to die? All batteries have a finite charge/discharge amount.

Glad I'm not the only one. Mine has a whole slew of awful things she likes. Our relationship is awesome, but deep down sometimes I think "can I really be that compatible with someone who gets entertainment from this?" and question my whole life so far.

Usually it is gradual thing. Seems Sonys update is screwed up and affecting lots of people. If it is truly dying not sure I will replace it or not. I go through spurts where I play it a lot and then it sits for months.

A while ago I did look at the possibility of replacing the battery but couldn't locate a source of good ones. Guess we will see what the next update brings.

simmias - any general end game tips for ffx-2?  or good xp grinding spots?  I'm getting completely bodied by this den of woe fight after you get all the crimson spheres.  I'm probably underleveled considering the final attack from the last of the 5 sequential fights takes twice my hp.   that's a pretty big difficulty jump though.

also, I must've misread the tutorial - how do you activate the special dresspheres?  seems like those might be useful.

My wife has been marathoning Project Runway for the past few weeks. She also watches WoF and Jeopardy. That stuff is all fine. I really don't get why the fuck she watches Finding Carter, though. I mean...an MTV drama with a ton of dumb characters, a poor kidnapping plot, and lots of stupid crime and drinking and sex bullshit?  :wall:

You can rig a controller to get to the 100-hour mark for that trophy. All the others seem to take around 90 hours still, though, from the few posts I was able to find about it.

I forgot the password to edit the PSNOT map. Damn. Could have sworn it was some variant of "cagbonerz"

Missed a lot of action over lunch.  That was fun, thanks guys!  Finally ran out of likes, so you guys enjoy those as well.

I'm going to try and get on the Division tonight as well, so I'd be down for joining the squad.

Shoot, I don't remember that battle being that tough. Are you leveling your dressspheres? And to get the special to activate you need to activate every node on your garment grid. So switch between every job on it and it will let you use it. The specials can be OP, but you have to level them.

You may want to look at this if you haven't been leveling your spheres: http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps2/562386-final-fantasy-x-2/faqs/27261

I do not understand what this means. I think I am OK with that though.

I do like JRPGs. Hell, I'm playing a really boring dungeon cralwer right now.

I just didn't like:

  • The shared health pool among party members.
  • Switching back and forth between human and fairy world just for conversations. (which didnt seem to add much depth to the story, and just felt like forced road blocks)
  • Not as much levelling up/fusing or breeding with the familars.
  • Kiddy nature of the dialogue and setting.
To each their own though.

So I guess GTA V has some asinine collectibles? This dude on NeoGAF is bitching about having to collect 50 pieces of paper scattered across the world.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1177196

It seems pretty obvious that Rockstar included them to demonstrate how pointless and stupid most collectibles are. But it was funny to read this guys rage post about how stupid the papers are.
I do not even remember those at all. I remember the stupid nuclear waste shit you had to pick up in the sub. I remember the knife flight things that were more or less a collectible and a PITA. I remember the stunt jumps especially the one where you had to do a forward flip on the motorcycle and the one where you had to land on a tiny patch of ground next to the lighthouse on an island. I do not remember these papers at all.

yeah what an idiot complaining about the papers.  the waste and jumps in GTA were MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WORSE.

Which is why I said #nope to them.

I always assumed collectibles in open world games were put there to force players to explore and admire the detail of the world the designers created.

hey Portlandites: would any of you be willing to PM me so I can bug you about the area? Our move search has steered us that direction and I'd like to pick your brains.
What do you want to know?

There's a whole lot of difference between "Portland" and it's suburbs. (Beaverton, Tigard, Gresham, Milwaukee, etc).

Even the Portland that's represented on TV with the hipsters and artisnal donuts is really only a small section of the W, NW and partially SE part of the town.

Are you looking to rent or buy? There's a massive rental shortage in Portland, especially for the highly desirable areas next to your New Seasons and craft breweries.

Do you like White People and Ultra-Liberals? Cause we got plenty of em.

Don't expect to go shopping at Target or Wal-Mart or other chains you might be familar with. Those are mostly a suburbs thing.

Let me know if you have more specific questions.

And of course a gamer is complaining about something completely optional. And he complains about the easiest collectable in the entire game.
