personally I didn't care for valkyria chronicles as it doesn't know which genre it wants to be in what with the semi real time crap going on.  Besides that between the balance issues, the buggy hit detection and boxes and rng screwing you on top of that I just didn't have much fun even with save scumming to get past the latter issues.  Worst part of all are the tank fight in chapter 10 or so.  Ugh.

It's a turn based strategy game. I don't think it had much confusion to itself. The hitboxes/detection/occasional balance issues/and RNG fuck ery definitely were issues though.

Finally remembered to jump on to the Square Enix deal, so I got the digital copy of Tomb Raider for $7.50 (would really rather have a physical copy, but would also rather not pay $15 vs $7...cheapness won out this time) and FFIX for $5 (I've got a physical copy but was worried one of the discs was corrupted, so this is the cheapest backup plan)

It's a strategy RPG where instead of moving your people around on a grid, you played it like a cover-based third-person shooter. It was pretty easy to grasp when playing it, as it set a new standard for the genre right before everybody stopped making big budget strategy RPGs.

Good call. Some people have mentioned to do the DLC prior to grinding and finishing the game because you might be OP by that point. I'm past level 200 so maybe I fall into that category...
I'm at 203 I think and man some of those bosses in the DLC will kick your ass on a 1v1. Granted those $20 I spent on the DLC were worth every single second (imo) and the new weapons are pretty awesome

The Castle Game --

This game is worth picking up.

It's a tower defense game where you build a free form castle to repel invaders. It's got a little hint of Kingdom Rush in it [upgrade skill trees, each soldier tent spawn a couple dudes, etc]. You build your castle in between waves [no time limit, you choose when to start wave] and during waves you have things to do [various special abilities, repairing].

You can sell anything you build for full price, which means you can completely redesign your castle between waves. This sounds odd at first, but in practice makes perfect sense.

My only complaint is that even on hard I don't find it particularly challenging -- I think the issue is that due to the massive variety in potential designs, they give you enough cash to 'make mistakes' or lose archer towers here or there... but if you design well, you never lose those, so you end up relatively rich in later rounds and just get more and more protected. [as compared to some hard tower defense games where the money earned is 'just enough' to squeak by with perfect spending habits.

Each level also offers and endless mode and a 'survival' mode. The survival mode is particularly cool - you're given a large fixed budget, design your castle, and see how long it stands.

All in all, I can't really fault it. It's a fun game, through and through. It's basically exactly what I was hoping it would be, and done well.

What? Clearly turn based, clearly an srpg. It's not semi-real time, like, at all. You plan your turn.

It's got faults [scouts and time based scoring system] but it also was fantastic.

Spent a little over an hour with Nom Nom Galaxy's tutorial over the weekend... it's quite good so far.  Glad I spent a few bucks on it.

I'd compare it to Terraria gameplay with a little bit of steamworld dig and managing resources for upgrades.  It's great to be able to mix and match ingredients to make new soups... does the game have a compendium of the soup flavours created?  I'll probably play it some more over the next few weeks and find out anyway, but it'd be nice to know when I complete the tutorial that the  recipes are there.

I liked Grow Home but I mainly played it with my kids watching and they seemed to enjoy me yelling Look Out Below! when the controls decided to drop me off the tree.  I did make it to the spaceship though, so I won.

I forget what game I voted for last time but it wasn't Grow Home.

I'll take whatever free game they give us this time.

Arena based dual stick shooters... I just don't care about them.  Speed running platformers... meh, was over them during my time as an iOS gamer.  Broforce has the most potential to be fun to me... but it's PS4 only so it's not like I'd play it anytime soon as I'm mainly playing Vita while my kids enjoy sharing the ps4.  In the end, I don't care what wins.

So... new PS+ games today.  That'll be cool.  I'm going to cue up Nova-111, Lemmings Touch and Helldivers to download to my vita once they go free later.   I'm still playing Final Fantasy 1 thanks to FF Origins.  I like all the updating to it, but it's still a heck of a grind on normal mode.  Not sure if I'll finish it anytime soon, but it's been much nicer to go back to that than I ever imagined.   It makes me want to play some Dragon Warrior or Phantasy Star as well.

Atleast this time all the games are the same price at $14.99. (Well they are on Steam, assume it will be the same or close on PSN)

I'm not sure if I will vote for Broforce or Assault Android Cactus.

I just figure that I'm not likely to go back to it again down the road just for the DLC. So even if none of it happens to be integrated in to the campaign I should still just do it all at once.
I put roughly 80 hours into it. You'll either be obssessed enough with the game to gladly pay full price for the DLC, or it could potentially go on sale while you grind out those Chalice Dungeons.

Nampo Bandai will be having a sale today. Only games they announced as part of the sale was Xenoverse - $16 and J-Stars $15. Up to 75% off most games

So I triple dipped on Sleeping Dogs & Tomb Raider.  Played neither on any system.  #truCAG4lyfe, #backlogFTW.  Anybody know where I can get therapy for 75%+ off?

Posting this here is like going to the bar and asking someone to sponsor them for AA isn't it?

I'm getting Tales of Xillia 1 and 2. I want SAO: Hollow Fragment PS4 but I already have it on Vita. I'll wait for SAO: Lost Song and Tales of Zestiria when they're cheaper.

Overall some pretty decent sales this week.  I really didn't need this after blowing $75 on mostly Square/Enix games last week.  I'm considering converting a few of my physical vita games over to digital.

Aside from the obvious price and console difference, which is better: Tales of Vestiria or Tales of Heart R?
I'm assuming you meant Zestiria (PS3/ps4)

Haven't played it but it's not supposed to be that great of a tales game. Then again hearts of r is kinda mediocre as well but I'd say they are close to the same quality

If you want, just play Zestiria on PS3 since graphically ps4 doesn't add much

Yes, sorry. I did mean Zestiria.

I'll think about it. But if both are about the same quality wise I'll go with Hearts for $18 less.

Love the early update, hope this remains a "thing" going forward.  Tempted by Sword Art Re Hollow Fragment for $5 but reviews say if you don't follow the anime then the game isn't for you.. anyone else have an opinion on this?  Symphonia is a steal at that price, would grab it if I didn't already own it.  Wish Zestiria PS4 was cheaper, will likely wait on that or buy it physical.

Dammit. Forgot that the last Vita/PSTV update killed PSN store access for my PSTV. So while I can still buy stuff I won't be able to download it. Sony needs a fix for this ASAP.

It starts about halfway into the anime (maybe around ep. 13), so it'd be good to have some knowledge of it. Watch a few episodes.

Can't you queue it up from the webstore for the PSTV? That's how I do it most of the time even though my access isn't broken on either Vita or PSTV right now despite being on the latest update.
