Let's not sugarcoat it here. He got banned because he talked in nonsense and shitted up every single thread with pictures of WWE bints.

He's taken on some CAG cult-anti-hero status since his ban(s) but this thread is infinitely better without him.

Still, that story of him punching his laptop was pretty funny I have to admit.

Oh, the British and their dry humor, or lack thereof. Something up your trousers, love?

He did tend to go on a huge rage at people over predictable words or phrases, like Obama, as well as unpredictable ones, like gorilla diaper.

Oh, and because I'm sure you guys care, I tried every possible place within a reasonable radius to see if anyone had a mechanical keyboard I could at least try in store and no luck at all.  I know Fry's and Microcenter would, but I don't feel like driving an hour just to go there.  The best I found was a Logitech G510S on clearance at Staples for $80, but they didn't even have it out for me to try.  Even at $80 that seemed overpriced for a lot of bells and whistle but no mechanical keys.

Checked my local Walmart for hidden PC deals over the weekend. With such blistering bargains as Watch Dogs for $59.96 I had to leave empty handed.

That may be one of the weakest GPU pack in promotions ever.

EDIT: Actually its not that bad, its for anyone who has an MSI AMD card in those ranges and not a new purchase thing, plus you get China for free too. Nice gesture.

What do the switches even mean? Everywhere says something different. Some say blue are good for gaming, others say brown for typing.
it's all personal preference far as I'm aware. Some examples I took off arcade parts site to give you an idea.

"

PERATING FORCE, FEEL, AND DIFFERENT KEY SWITCHES EXPLAINED

blue-5227432.gif

Cherry MX™ Blue

Cherry MX™ Blue "click tactile feel" sends a little bump to your fingers, and has an audible click the moment the button command is sent to the console or PC. The feedback can speed up your execution because you do not have to press the button all the way down to activate the button command. The diagram at right shows how the blue MX switch works. You can see that the switch activates at the halfway point -- the moment the white piece snaps down. 50g means that just a bit more force is needed to push down, but not much.

OPERATING FORCE, FEEL, AND DIFFERENT KEY SWITCHES EXPLAINED

Cherry MX™ Red
animation-cherry-mx-red.gif

Each HBFS pushbutton already comes with a Cherry MX™ Red 45g, linear feel key switch. What does linear feel mean? This means that the feel is consistent from the moment you press down on the button. Operating Force means how hard you have to push the button and how hard it will push back when depressed. The g in 45g represents a metric unit of force. In the case of the MX Red, it takes very little effort to press the button down. The feeling is quite unique, very soft yet responsive. These also offer no audible click when pressed down, unless you force it to "bottom out" -- pushing the button all the way down to its plastic contacts.

2lazy2fixtext, my current keys are blue

Blue - typing

Black - Gaming, replaced by Red

Red - Gaming

Brown - Middle ground of Red/Blue

(I use brown)

Edit: Honestly, unless you're extremely serious and buffer inputs, brown is probably best.

Free Talisman Digital Edition (Steam key)

https://sites.fastspring.com/nomadgames/instant/talismandigitaledition

  1. Visit the link.
  2. Enter your data and select Credit Card (dont need it) to pay
  3. Enter the coupon code "GW40GIFT".
  4. Complete your order.
  5. Wait for your email.
Saw that posted a few hours ago and have been trying to get the original link to load http://nomadgames.co.uk/talismande with no luck since.

I saw some guy on steamgifts had the page glitch out and gave him like a hundred keys.

I have blues and I like the tactile feel, but they are very loud and I'm too lazy to install those dampeners on every key. I'll probably try a different switch type next keyboard.

I'm confused... How do I buy this for $0.99 in the middle of the night only to have the keys be worthless a few hours later?

I have a few mechanical keyboards. Only modern one (not AT connector) has browns. I like the feel of the keys, but the layout is weird (it's a Kinesis Advantage, yay for goodwill :D) and I haven't put the time into trying to learn it.

Most likely. I need to get one of those key samplers with one of each key to try them all out.
IMO, you need 3-4 keys in a row of the same type to really get a good feel. They used to sell bars of 4 keys. You'd only need a Red and a Brown, so that's not too bad.

And yes, Cherry MX switches are relatively expensive. But they are like iron skillets -- they are likely to outlast you.

I prefer the pink switches, I don't want something that is going to outlast me

are we talking about vaporizers?

Doesn't sound like popping cherries is feasible with my $50 budget.  I'm also not too worried about the thing outlasting me as I expect myself to fall in love with some mad catz ratz abomination at some point in my life.

Microcenter has some different keyboards with switches on the floor they let you try out/sample.

I remember being really interested in buying a keyboard with Cherry MX switches. Once I tried it in the store, I said  fuck this and my cheapass just bought a logitech G105 for $25 instead.

Yeah, I'm afraid of something like that happening. I mainly type on it, gaming is secondary since I try to use a controller when possible. My preference for typing is usually low-profile laptop-type keyboards. They just feel easier/softer for me and allow me to type faster. I'm afraid of getting a mechanical and realizing it just doesn't feel good. We might be heading to the north side of town this weekend so if we do I might just make the effort to go to the Microcenter out there.

EHHHHH wrong

Blue - typing l o l o l

Saying any mechanical switch is better for anything is asinine

I'm not enough of a keyboard cherry nerd for this thread. If it types then that works for me and I don't give two fucks about the rest.
