This thread will attempt to provide a place to discuss past/present/future PC gaming deals. While mainly focusing on Steam games, any standout sales may also be presented. I will not be updating every Daily/Weekly/etc. sale. The tools to help individuals become a smarter shopper will be provided below.

See this POST for links to store sale pages, threads of interest and other tools to help you become a more informed PC game shopper.

Oh I'll be the first to admit that I did. Or at least I hoped the data they released was more self-serving than a complete picture and blueprint to what they were going to do going forward. Regardless, it's an interesting read and fills in a lot of details. It's also nice to hear from someone more objective.
I found it to be an interesting read also but I still think the data released is self-serving. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure sales were up (more people on PC and some people aren't big sale shopper so seeing your game for the first time is good enough for them. ) and discovery queue is an invaluable addition to Steam as people cannot buy what they don't know about. To me these sales are just the short term gains from a new feature... I still feel that the lack of flash/daily sales is about steam not wanting to have to deal with refunds and there will be a demand by publishers/developers to get back to it at some point. (They really should work on a price match feature that's automatic or close it.)

This whole sale has been disappointing... The highlight has been Ubisoft having their whole catalog on sale everyday instead of it rotating through but much of the sales are for less of a discount than the winter sale. There's also nothing going on with the discovery queue. If it was truly such an amazing sailing machine at the winter sale why is it being ignored this sale?

Also, can someone tell me why I can buy AC: Black Flag for cheaper than the original Assassin's Creed?

I'm not so sure I buy that since they are testing the same style of sale for a second time just a month after the holiday sale ended.
I was wondering if this sale is a test as well. As far as I can remember (which admittedly is probably only the last 24h) they haven't done a big/long sale like this for the chinese new year before. I was wondering if maybe they were testing if the page views and sales would stay similar without forcing people to look through their queue or something.

Along with the higher discounts as Syntax notes, the flash sales also caused me to impulse buy some stuff I otherwise wouldn't have (this winter sale was the first time I didn't buy anything during a major steam sale, probably the first time I've spent less than $30-$50 dollars in a steam sale even). I never had an issue checking steam every 12 hours or whatever it was for flash sales, but apparently some people did, and the biggest thing I miss is the interactivity of the sales. Even though it was never anything big it lent something to the sale to make it stand out or be special in some way. Now the steam sales are just boring check on the first day and be done with it which, for me, is as disappointing as the discounts themselves.

I trust that the new format did well for Valve (and by extension for at least some devs/pubs) since Valve repeated the format. That said, it's been worse for me which I suppose I care more about than Lars Whoever. No offense to Mr. Whoever. Lots of stuff that benefits producers isn't exactly better for the consumer.
The way they tweaked the discovery queue stuff for this sale should get some props (know someone mentioned it a few days back in the thread but still) though. Vastly improved and more interesting, and lets you tell the service what kind of games you find interesting, rather the Steam's guessing because "it's popular/it's on sale/just for the hell of it."

That would be great if there was some reason to look at it... but without the trading cards as a carrot I find myself not carrying.

I am now officially standing up as I browse CAG and type.  I will also be standing up for Bro nights.  I might not make it the full two hours the first few times.  We'll see.

That sounds horrible... Maybe I missed it but why?
Studies show that those who spend most/all day sitting down increase their risk for deadly stuff. I forget the stats, but basically it is much healthier/better for you to either stand up (do a standing desk like I am) or at the very least get up and move around from time to time during the day. I already do that since my pup needs to go out every so often, but I figure if I could, why not try this standing desk thing. I still have chair and lower desk in case I need to sit down for a second, but to use the computer I need to stand up. I might use my old monitor as my sitting monitor and put a second keyboard/mouse at a lower level too so I can use the computer both ways, but we'll see.

Ugh, I think I would rather be dead than try to game standing up... BTW you might want to consider a Wii. (Only half joking... about the Wii.)

Granted, a "good" day for me at work is about 13.5 miles of walking... Usually its closer to 15 though 18 miles a day isn't unheard of.

Anyhow, good for you! :) I wish you luck in your endeavor. :)

Standing up at work? What is this, the 19th Century?

Just go for a walk and play a team sport once/twice a week. It's not hard.

You too could be a spartan god like Preedatore if you just stopped eating cheese. (Of all the casual stereotyping that Top Gear came up with, the cheese one is hideously accurate)

:whee:

Two questions...

Does Goalie truly count?

And do you think Top Gear will still be good without the Holy Trinity of Car Presenters?

BREAKING TOM CLANCY's THE DIVISION NEWS!!!!

It appears the game will be 32.3 GB (which is only 5 more than the Beta)

Open Beta appears to be the 17th-21st of February.

That's the funny thing about the studies. They show that no amount of weekly exercise undoes the harm of sitting most of the day.

Goalie doesn't count. Unless your team is awful and they have to save EVERYTHING (case in point, my 6-a-side team).

Old Top Gear went downhill after a while and the jokey set pieces become annoyingly bad. I think I stopped watching around six or seven years ago, it just wasn't entertaining. The specials were different, I liked those a lot. The Vietnam special was mega.

The new TG line-up, they're doing what they can. Chris Evans is a good host who should grow on people but we won't know if he has international appeal until they've at least tried him for a while. Matt LeBlanc is another person I'd actually watch too, likeable and engaging. It might bomb but the show definitely needed a refresh.

DEAL TALK:

The Crew - I still like it a lot but I think buying the expac may be a waste of money. There's a ton of content already in the base game. That, and I can't find a deal on it either.

Should've gotten the complete version from Amazon when it was 75% off, or wait for the steam version to be 75% off.

u bad boi, go 2 ur spnakiggn caeg

I don't doubt that standing is healthier than sitting all day.  That said, history is full of wealthy people on their asses outliving the coal miners, foundry workers and field hands of the world.

Also, today is Pączki Day so put that in your health pipe and smoke it.  Metaphorically.  Don't actually try to smoke pączki.

The CNN article is trash just for the title.

The study doesn't really prove anything; though it gives good implications. More research needs to be done over time. For now it's mostly a "this is likely going to happen".

If I could have a standing desk I would and a couple people at my work do; a stability ball is a good alternative for sitting at a desk, though you still get the spinal pressure due to having to sit straight up.

Re: DROD games that were in various bundles

DROD 1 is up on Steam. Presumably the others will be coming at some point as well. Regarding keys someone asked the dev a couple of months ago and he said only people who bought directly from him will get Steam keys. I'm guessing he probably thinks the usual 'I don't have everyone's email addresses' crap.

I bought the games on GOG because there was the misinformation that you can register them on the Caravelgames website. Nope, nothing. :(

EDIT: From the email i received back in December.

Thanks for asking about Steam keys. Unfortunately, no, we won't be supporting handing out Steam keys for games bought on GOG or other distribution sites. We will be providing keys in an automated fashion to players who have bought and registered the DROD games on the Caravel Games website. We're not trying to be draconian; we don't have an automated way to verify and set up automated key distribution for purchasers from other game distribution channels, and it would be problematic for us to attempt this process manually.
Thanks for interest in our games on Steam, and sorry I couldn't give you a better answer.

That was a letdown. :( I still hope they going to update the GOG versions of their games.

but that's more likely to the wealthy not being exposed to the same things and having more money so access to better healthcare.

Is laying down considered sitting? (I would sort of assume so... but if you're suppose to get 6-8 hours of sleep every night that study has you standing for nearly the rest of the day.)
yeah, that's basically the gist. stand or move around as much as possible.

it's definitely lacking in any true causation and other articles make it a point to say - we don't know if sitting makes you unhealthy or fatasses who are prone to certain diseases just like to sit around a lot.

proper standing desks are obscene expensive. i just bought one of those put together at home semi cheap hanging media consoles and hung it on my wall high enough to work. i'll post a pic later.

I've been toying with the idea for a while, maybe even just adding something to put on top of my current desk. I think I'll wait til I move in a couple months tho.

Man, I really want to upgrade/build a new computer, but I think the thing I need most upgraded is my video card and I hear people saying to wait until later in the year when the new cards release. Not sure if there's any reason to upgrade other stuff before then.
I ended up caving and bought that cpu/mobo combo. It was out of stock, but they're supposed to send me one when it's back in stock.

The timing of this post was funny though. At work they put out the old video cards for anybody to take yesterday afternoon. My co-workers were scoffing at the crappiness of the GTX 480s, but they're actually better than what my current card was. Not only that, but I grabbed 2, so I should be able to do SLI.

It was also good timing since Overwatch beta is back today.

You guys can mock him all you like. But thanks to Fox's never sitting down again for the rest of his life policy, he's gonna live a good 16 days longer than everyone else in this thread.

I'm surprised you didn't get an adjustable desk.

Edit: Actually, na, I'm not surprised.

I think keeping calories in check and exercising will do more for one's health than not sitting. As someone that is on my feet for about 75% of my waking day, sitting is glorious.

The DROD dev said he'd talk to the different distributors and give them keys. No drama. :p

Hi, everyone, and thanks for your interest in getting DROD RPG and the other DROD games on Steam when they're released. Thanks also for asking about Steam keys, and Motoki for your clarifications. You are correct -- we were not aware of support offered by bundle sites for auto-distributing Steam keys to people's accounts there. I'll reach out to IndieGala, IGS, GoG, and Shinyloot (not sure how this one will work out) and if they take keys for DROD RPG (etc), I'll provide them there.

Here are some DROD: The City Beneath Desura keys for you guys to fight over:

Windows PC gamers will have access starting the following day, Feb. 19. The open beta will run until Feb. 21 and allow players to try a story mission that wasn't in The Division's recent closed test build. It will also include the rest of the content offered in the closed beta. Those who try out the open beta will unlock a reward, which players will receive once the game launches on March 8.

i believe the preload should be available on the feb 16th, so you can download the game early. i will probably be hosting bro night events for it from the 19-21

Nah, I'm avoiding anything that would make it too easy for me to sit.

I'm surprised you didn't get an adjustable desk.

Adjustable desks are way expensive, especially for what they are. Cheapest ones are around $200 and don't allow for easy adjustment. Ones that make adjustment easy are even more.

I think keeping calories in check and exercising will do more for one's health than not sitting. As someone that is on my feet for about 75% of my waking day, sitting is glorious.
But that's the things, studies haven't yet found that. So even people who are "healthy" still tend to have more health problems if they sit for long periods of time. I'd rather just play it save. And I'm starting to do that other stuff more too.

My boyfriend spent $700 on a standing/sitting desk. He just sits now.
on your faec

Sorry.

Because you broke his legs for spending $700 on a fancy desk?
Another reason I didn't want to spend a lot. If I abandon this idea it didn't break the bank.
