Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

Very legit but I've only used them for shipping within Canada so I can't fully answer your question.
I ordered digimon cyber sluts from them and they just got around to shipping it today. it released a while ago and even their site said the 12th so you would think it would of shipped out faster than this. But in hind sight we did get hit by that big blizzard so it makes some sense its taken this long. We will see how this turns out once it finally arrives probably on monday-wed considering the weather and its already going on thursday.
I've used them plenty of times inside Canada too. Pretty sure they somehow ship things out through USPS somehow to save US postage costs. They either ferry stuff across the boarder and then ship it, or they have some small office in the USA to pack American orders. So yeah, I'd expect Americans would get some delays.

Oh and omega is a cheating bastard. screw that op boss.
He was fine, I was cheating too :D/ Once I bumped into that Fire Temple, I didn't leave it till I conquered it and got that fire summon. The rest of the game was a cake walk after breaking it that badly.

Super Robot Taisen OG The Moon Dwellers getting English release for Asia (and probably for US)
fuck man. I don't care if I have to import it for $100+, I'm buying this with no hesitation

A question for more seasoned Best Buy shoppers. I pre-ordered Street Fighter V for the Cammy DLC costume and did an in-store pick-up. Are they supposed to eMail me the code? If so, how long does it usually take?

Usually happens right after pickup. Maybe they ran out of codes? Something similar happened with Digimon and it took like 3 days for them to send

Hope my Fire Emblem Fates SE from Amazon gets shipped out tomorrow.

I was surprised, till I noticed the OG. Still, good to see this series coming back here. Don't know if I'll get it though, only game I've played with SRT:OG: Endless Frontier, and iirc, it played very differently then the other games in the series. I still lament the fact that we never got the sequel here :/

In the subject line put "Street Fighter V on PS4." In the body put your order number or receipt number, your email address, and what the problem is. I was in the exact same situation where I picked up my game in-store, but didn't receive a code in the email. The mod looked into it and generated a fresh code for me, they responded to me in less than 3 minutes at around 12 PM PST Wednesday.

Does anyone know how safe videogamesplus ca is?

Interested in trying to get a copy of Atelier Escha & Logy Plus Limited Edition since I missed out the first time and the price is reasonable for US, and I hesitate to place a order since I uncertain of how legitimate that site is.

Anyone used that site and know how good they are with shipping games to the US?
They're safe. I've ordered through them a few times. They're usually pretty quick with their shipping to the US.

I emailed them about this issue with Digimon. They ran out of their allotted copies and had to wait for more to show up, which was delayed because of the Chinese New Year.

Canadian post office and US post office have a working relationship. No need to go through any of those hoops to ship an item through either post office. Postage costs are very reasonable between the countries.

This worked like a charm, thanks again man! You were right down to the amount of time it took for them to respond.

So their US orders actually have Canadian postmarks? I heard differently, but hearsay has little value.

It makes a lot of sense for Canadians to cart stuff down if they've got all their paperwork in order. Hearsay told me it's just a $20 fee at the boarder to transport commercial goods across, if you're moving 1 item, or a full carload. If you're shipping hundreds of items, saving a few bucks makes a huge difference to your bottom line. The cheapest options (without any bulk/account discounts) to ship a ~200g package cost about $6USD for Light Packet for Can-USA, which would cost $2.72 for Media Mail inside the USA. Going over 500g pushes the Can-USA price up to $12.15USD for Airmail, with little change to the US cost at $3.22 for Media Mail.

Canadian postage prices generally suck. While our dollar was at par there were plenty of instances where it'd be noticeably cheaper to pop down into the USA to mail stuff to Canada.

OH SHIT! OH SHIT! OH SHIT!

Argh, I don't have a ps4. But I'm still very excited about this.

"first time ever" Eeeh, not quite.

I guess I'm the only one unaware of it: How does that Super Robot Wars play? Is it a strategy-RPG or something else?
Hopefully it will be like the strategy RPGs we had on the Game Boy Advance, and not the turn based RPG we got on the DS.

For anybody that hasn't played the GBA ones (or hasn't imported other games in the series)

I really enjoyed the arsenal of weapons that any given unit had, and the way that the game balances that stuff out. To me it really helped add to the feel of each unit being a person piloting a mech, and separated the game from other tactics rpgs I had played at the time. Your giant robot can be equipped with things like short or long range missiles, various powered machine guns, energy swords, beam cannons, etc. Each of these things has their own unique characteristics. This was also not just limited to weapons either. A transforming mech plays differently than a standard one, etc.

The balancing part then comes into play on your loadout and combat choices. Say you have four units you're engaging; three are close by, and one is at extreme range. If you fire using your long range weapons (which might or might not be your strongest one as well), then you will be at the mercy of the short range ones on their turn. Conversely, if you decide to take out the nearby units first, then you won't be prepared to counter-attack the long range enemy. It also helps stress positioning, because you might be superior to the enemy troops at long range, but those same units might tear you apart if you let them get too close.

My Amazon order is 'Shipping Soon', but I'm used to games shipping the night before and getting them on release. Maybe 1% of the time that doesn't happen, so the odds are in my favor.

The only thing that is going to bug me is next week Bravely Second releases in EU/AUS, but NA doesn't get it for almost two months after that.

That's not what I'm getting at. I mean if 20%+ of players have the platinum, I don't think it's the creme de la creme of difficult games.
According to those who have played the Souls games, Bloodborne is the easiest of them all. I can't offer an opinion since I've only played that and Demon's Souls, but I did think the latter was more difficult.

Update: I just got an email that my Fire Emblems SE order has shipped from LameStop. Shipping via UPS, estimated delivery is Monday per GS's site, but UPS doesn't have the package yet. I'm expecting it to arrive in the middle of next week. I got the cheapest (read as: slowest) shipping option.

It's like the GBA games. That's the standard formula. There are a few fan translated ones you can try like J(GBA) and Alpha Gaiden(PS1)

Endless Frontier was just a spinoff. Exceed never. ;_;

It was at least better than PXZ.

My gamestop order for Fire Emblem just shipped. Should get it on Tuesday. Now I just wait patiently. Btw, I placed the online order on 11/19, so I guess that thing about canceling orders was only instore orders.

The new free Make War Not Love bundle is up. This one requires you to go to the site and put in your email address & confirm it (mailing list sub) before you get a code to enter into Steam within 24 hours. This one has Streets of Rage 2 as well as Binary Domain & Condemned.

The next, and final one with Gunstar Heroes will be available in 48 hours.

Also Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is now out on Steam. It's $24 (20% off) currently and comes with a soundtrack. The soundtrack is only included during its first week, after that it will probably be separated.

I feel like Bloodborne is more reaction/timing based. Especially after getting mauled one too many times by the Bloodstained Beast and Father Gascoigne.

Demon Soul's was annoying (Because of all of the World and Character Tendency), but didn't really feel hard except for a few parts.

Dark Souls got pretty damn hard/annoying on the first time through certain areas (Looking at you Sen's Funhouse and Anor Londo, also Blighttown/Quelaag shenanigans)

Havent had a chance to play through 2 yet though.

Finally finished all the routes of visual novel Noble Works. This one was relatively long. I'm not going to lie that like 1 or 2 of the routes were a drudge to get through. Also did pretty much all the smaller breast girls had a complex about it. The game had a unique idea and each of the routes takes that idea to a different level. Some of the characters annoyed me a lot (the maid.....) and there was an extra character who had one of the most half arsed routes I've ever seen. The graphics/music are decent and it's worth a play. My favorite of the routes was Masamune followed by Maya. By the end of playing I was so worn out on the game I doubt i'll ever go through it again.

Has anyone noticed missing charges from Best Buy recently? I've scoured my bills and don't see any charges for Digimon CyberSleuth or Nitro Plus Blasterz

Best Buy canceled my FE Special Edition for "unverified" information, without giving me a chance to update or view what information was lacking.

Did you pay with PayPal? If so, it's usually taken up-front when you order.
