Not that anyone cares but here's my list of games I've beaten this month.

Mirrors Edge - Crap
Liked that recap, but not that Mirror's Edge review! How dare you not agree with me that it was a really cool game. :oldman:

Anyone heard anything good or bad about Far Cry Primal?
I haven't seen any PC reviews yet, but the console versions are getting decent reviews. I was kind of lukewarm on it until I read that you get to do all this cool stoneage ass-whooping. Beating neanderthals with a club and using wild animals to take out bad guys makes me want to fakeybro in the worst way.

If nothing else, the premise is novel and sounds like a fresh take on the series.

Risen 3 can't be more boring than Skyrim or Witcher 3 can it?
Yes, Risen 3 easily can be; especially even more so if you've played Risen 2.

At least since ES5 took place Skyrim, it doesn't take place in ES4's setting of Cyrodiil.

Of course, now W3 has the huge open-world mechanic going on.

I don't think adding normal magic back in Risen 3 was a major change, do you?

Honestly, that's probably the biggest change R3 has going on.

Also, Risen series might just be much better off with no voice-acting and instead actually having much better writing/dialogue/storytelling.

Sorry I went a little rough there. It's not a bad game per say it's just that it amounted to 5 hours of running away from people followed by an entirely unfulfilling ending. It left a lot of questions without explaining anything and for all we know seconds after it pans out to the end title both Kate and Faith are gunned down by the well armed officers that were waiting there before jumping on the helicopter. They wanted you dead before going up on the helicopter so why wouldn't they still want you dead after landing back on that roof afterward? To them and everyone else those two are still terrorists and they just watched Faith kick a guy who was on their side to a thousand foot drop.

Maybe it's just that the 8 ball up my ass is finally doing it's thing, or, as I was skimming, did I see something about The Division being $28? Where and when was this?

If you guys enjoyed Castlevania 2 and Legend of Zelda 2, then wait until you play Ninja Gaiden 2. It's like all of those things, except not. Mind blowing material.

Nothing beats Magician Lord, though. As the lord of magicians, you can turn into a dragon warrior, a ninja, or Raijin, a lightning god.

Out of jealousy of his Tidus pants you mean?
I have Tidus pants, man! Google lemonparty to see the pics I uploaded.

I laughed when I saw this, and then I laughed again when I saw MysterD liked it, and then I laughed until my dick fell off when I saw MysterD responded to this and missed the point entirely.

Now where did my dick go?

Sooooooo I just completed Dropsy.

It's a great adventure game that does a lot of things very well, but I really, really disliked how the game wrapped up. Up until that point, I loved it. Once the end sequence begins, you're stuck and you'd better have a save before that point, or you won't be able to go back and complete the rest of the sidequests.

A tip for people who play it: At one point you'll lose one of your companions. After you get him back, do not go to work until you're 100% done with everything else. Doing that triggers the final part of the story and you can't go back after that.

Finished with Dragon's Dogma.  Well, I could New Game+ it and get to level 200 and farm Blackbitter Isle for gear but I got other shit to play, too.

Was fun, glad Motoki recommended it.  The combat is entertaining and gives a fair amount of flexibility, I enjoyed the pawn system where you recruit NPCs from other players to fill out your party and the open world nature gives you the chance to chase the main plot or just dink around for a while.  The upgradable loot system allows for incremental advances in gear giving you some reward for poking around.  The class system is very flexible, where you can change vocations on a whim and try new things while gaining some potential permanent benefits in the form of cross-class skills.

On the other side, the world is pretty small and not especially varied, enemy selection is pretty limited and the whole RPG/plot nature of the game is weak.  It's a "silent protagonist" sort of game where you never actually get to have a dialogue but are rather just told what to go do (kill stuff and bring back stuff).  Towards the end, it gets very repetitive.

So, if you like active combat and some measure of grind, Dragon's Dogma is likely up your alley.  If you want a deep RPG experience, keep looking.  The port seems fairly well done, looks acceptably attractive for an older game and I played through it on M+KB which worked fine aside from some expected standard hotkeys not working (no "M" for map, etc).  I got 130+ hours out of it for a little over $20 (and still haven't done most BBI content) so I can't complain.

One really weird thing about buying Disgaea on steam is that it is actually listed in your library as Disgaea PC. As if you will forget What system you are playing it on and need a gentle reminder each time you start it up. They should do this with all PC ports.

The reason why the writing is comparitively lacking compared to similar games is because the writer is literally the head developer's wife. I don't think it's fair to compare it to big-budget games like Skyrim and Witcher 3 when those games have easily dozens of staff. Risen was probably made for a tenth of what it took to make those games and the devs made a solid effort with what they had. I know I would be ecstatic if I had a hand in making the game.

It's probably a matter of taste but I feel like this is one of the only authentic pirate games: to survive or gain the respect of your crew, you're always looking for treasure. Sometimes you have to do favors for people before they help you, and it feels pretty natural like if you were to ask for something in real life. And yeah, sometimes the game is mundane, but tell me that a pirate's life wouldn't be mundane sometimes in real life. I also enjoyed the ship battles with sea monsters - much more fun than Assassin's Creed: Black Flag's stealth sections.

The thing is - Mass Effect 3 wasn't really that much different from either ME1 and/or ME2. ME1 and 2 were very different games in some ways, but ME2 still turned-out to somehow be a great game while still throwing tons of [RPG type of] things out of the window (i.e. Inventory thrown out the window entirely) or changed completely (i.e. the combat was vastly improved).

ME3 took a lot of the elements that worked in either ME1+2; throw them into a blender; added a few new elements; found a way to make all these elements work together; and still managed to drop a great game...well, for the most part, anyways.

The thing people really complain about with ME3 is that the base-game's ending pretty much sucked - b/c it didn't offer-up lots of decisions and/or for a final game in the Shepard Trilogy really didn't really give much closure to the Shepard main-character and his/her crew.

Bethesda games and PB games are certainly not known for their writing, dialogue, narrative, storytelling, and voice-over work. For the most part, those companies been all over the place in quality in that department.

While I'm complaining and all, Bethesda's recent games since Oblivion (i.e. all their games with full-fledged voice-acted dialogue) probably also could benefit from having no voice-acting (or having very little voice-acted) and instead having actual better writing, dialogue, and actual storytelling. Bethesda is certainly nowhere even bloody close to the level of BioWare + Obsidian, if we're talking in terms of actual writing for dialogue, narrative, and storytelling.

Just b/c RPG's like Gothic 1 have full-fledged voice-acted dialogue for everything in a RPG and more or less pioneered it and/or popularized it (since Bethesda followed in Gothic 1's footsteps with Oblivion having full-on voice-acting in a RPG), doesn't mean that every RPG since then really should go this route.

To me, it's quite annoying when you have a very important character voice-acted, yet another unimportant character (or a bunch of them) has the same actual voice-actor not even changing their delivery, style, or anything of that sort. Thanks a lot, Gothic 1 and Oblivion.

Part of my motivation is that FC4 never really bricked down like I thought it would and still hasn't hit my sweet spot so I might as well have fakeybroed it.

Uplay Nvidia keys on Steamtrades

Comparing Legend of Zelda 2 with Castlevania 2 seems a little weird.

Castlevania 2 has lots of cryptic parts like kneeling at the lake and the tornado crap and is pretty impossible to beat without a guide.

LoZ2 really only has two hard parts, Death Mountain and final palace, and nothing is cryptic, just takes practice to learn the correct path.

I installed, played and beat Dead Island and Riptide recently.  What did I learn?  I LOVE the analog control option where you hold a trigger and swing your weapon.  I learned that I can't quit listening to Sam B's in game songs, "Who do You Voodoo (Bitch)" and "No Room in Hell".  I really enjoyed those games.  I finally have something other than State of Decay on my list of great zombie games.

Lastly I learned that Techland, the company that made Dead Island and Riptide is behind Dying Light.  This is problematic.  You see, I'd previously written off Dying Light as some parkour game with zombies.  Now I'm seriously considering fakeybroing it.

So, the lesson, as most everybody here already knows is to never, EVER install your games. :)

Campaign Cancelled

To Our Backers,

Due to ongoing legal issues and noncompliance by the circle, SRL, we regret to inform everyone that we must cancel this campaign. While due diligence was made to make sure that all aspects of the Kickstarter campaign were fulfilled, in the end the great financial loss and damage to our reputation was too much.

It was also discovered that SRL engaged in stealth marketing tactics using paid reviews which violates Steam's Terms of Service. At that point, we had no choice but to terminate our relationship with SRL.

Refunds will be offered for undelivered physical copies of the game. Please email [email protected] with the subject "WAS Backer - Physical Refund" and in the body of the text please include your paypal address.

Whatever physical products that were made will still be shipped to backers. More details will be made available once fulfillment begins.

Regarding the shikishi, unfortunately, requests to SRL to make sure that there were enough shikishi for the backers was unfulfilled. Thus we will be also offering refunds for the shikishi as well.

Circumstances beyond our control prevented us from better informing everyone of what was going on as it serves no one any good to speak negatively about the developer. Nevertheless, we at Sekai Project want to extend a sincere apology to everyone affected.

The Hourglass of Lepidoptera will be removed from Steam as soon as possible. However, those of you who already have a Steam key will still be able to keep your copy of the game.

Thank you very much for your understanding.
[/customspoiler]

TL;DR - The visual novel WAS -The Hourglass of Lepidoptera- "will be removed from Steam as soon as possible". Meaning at this point probably not until late Monday morning when people at Valve are back in the office, sufficiently caffeinated and someone there can maybe be motivated to give half a shit.

FYI if you care, it's $17.99 and nobody else sells it besides Steam as far as I can tell.

Titan Quest is getting an update, currently the update is in the beta branch but supposed to feature improved shaders and rendering, as well as getting multiplayer fixed since (i guess) it used gamespy.
Awesome.

It would be nice if they eventually make the new TQ: IT - Reworked version eventually a SEPARATE entry on Steam, once it comes out of Beta.

Some of us here have Fan Patch still installed and don't want that mod (possibly) broken by a new update.

EDIT:

Looks like TQ: IT is probably eventually going to GOG, as well - as Nordic confirms it's part of "the plan":

This is awesome to hear! I hope they add some more updates to Titan quest besides those.

So far Grim Dawn with a steam controller is great! X-input just doesn't feel/control as good unfortunately.

no one update us on GMG deal anymore..
The base version of Shadows of Mordor is currently on sale but its more expensive than the GoTY edition which is also on sale... $11.24 (and the voucher works so what stated as a joke post just got allot more serious. $9.00 Link)

Voucher: FEBURY-SVINGS-20PERC

My Alienware Alpha i3 finally came in from Amazon Warehouse Deals yesterday.  I bought it for $354.  It was listed in used - very good condition, but it came boxed.  The seal was broken, but other than that and a nick on the front of the box, everything looked great - the Xbox 360 controller, batteries, HDMI cable, cord and system were factory sealed.  I know it's underpowered as gaming PCs go, and I will probably upgrade a few things including the memory, but I'm happy that I can be one of you guys now.

The Alpha's Alienware Hivemind interface is supposed to make it easy for console newbies like myself to get acclimated to PC gaming.  It has a front screen where you can log into Steam, Origin and U-Play easily without having to go into desktop mode.  You can also do most things only with the controller.  I have downloaded the majority of the 70+ games in my Steam library including the free Make Love Not War games that Sega made available during that promotion.

It's actually pretty cool, very small and slightly wider than the controller that it came with.  A hell of a lot smaller than the PS4 and the Xbox One.  I am slowly getting comfortable with using a keyboard and mouse to navigate things.  I'm sure that probably sounds strange, but I've never owned a PC that was capable of running the majority of PC games.

And thanks to CAG member TB14 for the Sega coupons.  I am looking forward to using them.
