I'm hoping someone might be willing to help a Dimensions noob out.  My son has lost the Batman base from the starter set and seems to think he can't progress in the game unless he has that specific character.  He has Wildstyle, Gandalf, Shaggy, and Scooby, but he says the game is requiring Batman's grappling hook (and possibly other skills) for certain areas, etc.  Firstly, is this true?  Are there certain areas that only specific characters can allow progress?  Secondly, is Batman replaceable?  I thought I had seen some used Lego Dimensions figures at Gamestop but when I went in one local store, the clerk said they don't carry them (although i'm not sure I trust their answer).

I believe Batman is essential, and I don't think GameStop carries used Dimensions minifigs. I'm not sure what your best option is, honestly.

My guess would be to go to the lego site and request/buy the batman base piece. we had a defective fig. base that came with one of our sets and they sent us a new one. I'm sure if you explained the situation you could at least buy another one.

If you call Lego, they will forward you to WB Games. I personally had a defective toy pad and was told that Lego will handle anything concerning the mini figs or vehicles (missing/broken/etc.) while WB handles anything concerning the software or electronic bits. In the case of my toy pad, they sent me a replacement and told me to trash the defective one. It was a pretty painless process that took about a week to receive a working one.

Thanks for the help, guys.  I'll try the route of asking for a replacement or trying to buy one.  I also feel pretty strongly that I've seen a used lego figure at a Gamestop somewhere, so I may check around at a few different stores.  But maybe I'm wrong or maybe it wasn't a Dimensions figure.

The concept of the game is nice, but the base is a pretty small item to lose in a house with small children.  It makes me appreciate the larger all-in-one piece Skylanders or Infinity toys that are a little harder to lose, although I understand the uniqueness of being able to build the actual toy.

I think I'm finally going to take the plunge :) Amazon Warehouse has the Starter Kits sub-$50 now, and the fun packs I'm interested in are half off. Just have to wait for the Doctor Who Level pack to go on sale again!

Alternatively, you could pick up Wonder Woman. She has all Batman's skill (except Stealth, and I believe that Shaggy/Scooby have those) plus a few others that make her pretty awesome.

Whether he is essential, I believe, depends on how far you've progressed in the game. The characters are designed so that there is a lot of cross-compatibility in terms of skills and abilities, so, as others have pointed out, other characters can "substitute" for Batman in certain areas. Here's a good chart that summarizes this information.

However, if you haven't really started the game, part of the introduction requires you to use (and assumes that you have, because he's part of the starter pack) Batman to assemble the gateway in-game. I don't think you can substitute another character in this part. If your son has already gotten past the first level or two, he could probably safely substitute one or two of the other characters for Batman.

Frankly, I question how a lot of these bits and bobs aren't lost or eaten in more child- and pet-containing households, because any LEGO piece in and of itself is sufficiently small that it's pretty easy for it to disappear. Because I have no small humans in my house, I just keep all of my LEGO items in places that cats cannot reach or aren't physically able to go.

There are other ways to get Batman's skills. The hindrance would be story mode, when you need specific characters and not their skill.

You can always borrow one from someone? Everyone that has Dimensions would have one.

You can use Golum for batman's boomerang targets and Wonder Woman for grapple. I think that should cover what you'd need him for

The Simpsons set was a bit of a waste of money, youngest finished it within an hour or two. Feel a bit ok about it since i got it with price match and cartwheel. Would not have felt OK if I paid full price

Feel that way about most Dimensions stuff other than level packs that also unlock the worlds (e.g. Portal 2). The regular half price deals have convinced me to get most sets and I'm trying to fight the completionist in me to avoid the fun packs that provide no utility at this point.

Huh. I suppose you COULD do that if you really wanted to. I actually didn't realize Wonder Woman had the boomerang ability. I don't have her.

Midway Level Pack is going to be $20 on launch week at Best Buy. This means a $20 Amazon price match or $10 (preorder from Christmas).

It's at my Target right now (Atlanta). Anyone know if the content has been patched in yet? I don't think it has or at least the trophies aren't showing up for me yet. Also saw Superman, Slimer, Stay Puft, and Aquaman but will likely wait for GCU or better. Didn't buy any at 7.50 when they were cheap.

It hasn't show up yet (always shows up first on PS4, then other systems follow) . Will most likely appear Tue/Wed (PS4).

Wife found the Superman fun pack out for sale at Walmart just now. The cashier had to do an override for purchase as it didn't scan at the register.

The midway pack is currently $18.59 at Amazon (the other packs are around $19). So far my pre-order hasn't gone down, but I expect it to like the others. Only set not discounted so far that I ordered is Slimer. This has probably been one of the best deals in a while, especially considering they're pre-orders.

Will they deduct 20% off the preorders still - it said it would be applied at checkout, but at checkout it still says $18.59 plus tax for me.

If you are referring to Amazon, nope. 20% off MSRP. Best Buy on the other hand takes 20% off everything with GCU

The deal is up and available now at Best Buy, I just pre-ordered Superman, Aquaman, Stay Puft and Midway for $5.99 for Funs and $15.99 for the Level. I won't get release day delivery since I'm ordering this late and choosing Free, but I'm not in a huge rush (not willing to go into the store either).

Okay - seems like BB is the best place to go with GCU. Amazon Prime members won't get 20% off the already lowest price. From their FAQ:

5.The game is already discounted, do I still get 20% off at checkout?

Yes, Prime members get at least 20% off list price on new physical video games during pre-order and two weeks after launch.  If the game is discounted less than 20%, Prime members get the full 20% off at checkout.  If the game is already discounted more than 20%, Prime customers get the lower price.

So tempted to pick up Dimensions from Best Buy today, but it's a little difficult to pull the trigger.  My daughter used to play Disney Infinity but recently has not touched it.  The wife always enjoyed the other lego games.  Is Dimensions comparable to either of these two game series?

It's pretty much exactly like the previous Lego games, except that instead of unlocking characters and abilities you just have access to whatever you've bought.

It is also multi-themed, which is nice. Some of the old Lego games can get dull because they focus only on a single theme. There is a ton of variety in Dimensions, and while you do have to pay for content, you get some cool toys and get to pick which content you get. $14.99 for a Fun Pack is absurd for what is essentially a minifig and a mini-build, but $5.99 is very reasonable given that is what they cost when you pick them up at the Lego store or Target checkout line. We have always stocked up on little Lego packs for stocking stuffers/Easter baskets/Valentines/etc., now I have several of these and when an occasion comes up we just give those to our boys.

With the Midway drop, and December promo, I've paid $38.21 after tax for the following:
Doc Brown Fun Pack
Ghostbusters Level Pack
Midway Level Pack
Aquaman Fun Pack
Stay Puft Fun Pack
Slimer Fun Pack

Really wish I would have ordered the full waves if I would've known about these discounts.

Hey, at least you ordered something. That's more than I can say for myself :whistle2:(

I'm tempted to pick up the base game, all six level packs, and Emmet. The total after GCU would be around $150. How worth it is this game? Is it $150 good? I kind of want to bite because this seems like a good deal, but I also have lots of other games to play.

It depends on how much you care about getting 100% and how much you care about all of the franchises. The Simpsons and Back to the Future level packs are supposed to be bad. You'll also need one character from each franchise to unlock all of the adventure worlds. On top of that you'll need specific characters to solve certain puzzles. You can play through the main story with what's in the box, but if you want to do EVERYTHING, you'll need some more stuff. There's a spreadsheet that tells you what to get to 100% the game with tye least amount of stuff.

I am not bothered about getting 100%. I just want to be able to unlock all the Achievements, and I actually like the franchises in the level packs. Big fan of Portal, Ghostbusters, and Back to the Future, especially. I'd also get Emmet because I like him.

I just don't know if I want to drop $150 on a single game.

If you like the franchises and you like Lego games go for it. So far I have put near 80+ hours into it trying to 100% it.

Also, from what I understand there wont be a Lego Dimensions 2. They will continuously update it for the next two years. Some of the upcoming packs are speculated to be Harry Potter, Adventure Time, and the Ninja Turtles. Anways, we might hear something soon next month becuase people have been getting lucky and have found the last wave (Slimer, Lloyd, Bane) out on sale.

I got the PS3 starter kit for $6 due to store closing, don't know if I will even have time to play with it, but what pieces should I look for to get more on the game, I don't care about 100% but just enjoy the game.

Yeah, I just might have to bite on this. One last question: I haven't been following the deals for this franchise; is this sale at Best Buy stacked with GCU likely to be the best we'll see for a while?

Get all Level Packs if you prefer fun over completion.

I believe this has been the cheapest so far. Another discount might appear near the last wave (mid-May) or around E3.

For people who have the Midway pack preordered at Amazon, what's your shipping status?  Stay Puft and Aquaman are both preparing for shipping, but Midway just says they need more time for a delivery estimate.

So I just picked this up yesterday. I haven't had a chance to play it yet, but I see the deals on Best Buy and can't help but feel like I should jump on them. Only issue is I'm not looking to spend much money at the moment, so I'm trying to keep it limited.

Are the level packs really worth the cost? Right now, I'm only thinking of getting the Superman figure that comes out tomorrow, along with the Simpson and Portal level pack for just $40 after taxes. Consider that's how much I paid for the Starter kit, would this be a wise decision just for now?

I would say yes to the Portal level pack, and no to the Simpsons unless you REALLY like Simpson's. It's apparently one of the shortest levels (less than 15-20mins). I highly recommend the Doctor Who and Portal level packs. Fun and longer levels that also let you unlock their Adventure worlds :) Adventure worlds for each franchise contain ~2-4ish hours of content.

I just picked up the game myself a couple of weeks ago and really enjoy it. You don't have to 100% all of the levels to get all the achievements. That being said, there's enough fun stuff to do that I'll most likely 100% anyway.

So I guess the Midway Level packs aren't getting release day shipping from Amazon? Hopefully someone else's shipped as mine doesn't even have a date yet.

Did you also preorder it when they had that 10 dollar off coupon? Can't complain about it shipping for $9.11 total.

I think Harry Potter is a safe bet because it's WB and there's a new movie out later this year. An adventure time Lego set was just announced last week, due later this year so that's probably a likely candidate. Lego abandoned the TMNT license last year and Mega Bloks now has it so I think that ones out the window

So here's what me and the my seven year old came up with based on current landscape of Lego at retail and the bigger properties licensed in the past.

Harry Potter

Minecraft

Nexo Nights

Friends

Indiana Jones

Adventure Time

Anything else that seems like a contender? With Indiana being part of Lucasfilm and therefore Disney do you think that disqualifies it?

Harry Potter seems like a lock. Lego Friends would be kind of awesome. I would expect Indiana Jones to appear in Disney Infinity instead of Lego Dimensions, if at all.
