Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

Guilty Gear 2 -Overture- stealth released on Steam today without warning. Damn people need to stop making my thread job a pain in the ass.

Anyways, framerate seems fine on the release, but it has no keybind options (ini edit only) or graphic options. So it looks like the game has a blur, possibly because of poor upscaling but I don't really know for certain. Apparently they're working on fixing it, but if you're interested I recommend holding off until they do. Though mod fixes come as well at some point.

It's basically a pseudo early access release for a port, but can't get the early access tag because it doesn't fit the definition.

I love Play-Asia's attitude towards censorship. I wish more companies had the balls to take a stand against it the way they do.

I wasn't a fan of them in the past, due to their sometimes snarky customer service, but after seeing their open hostility towards those SJWs who are ruining the gaming industry, I'm actually am a fan now.

Well, looks like Koei Tecmo confirmed it. Don't think they'll say it was a joke or else there'd be an small uproar. The amusing part is that it's available now on Steam in Japanese/Chinese, but it's $90! I guess I shouldn't be too surprised since Koei Tecmo and PC don't really blend well.

Steam reviews are kinda poor for it, but I think a good amount of it stems from the price point.

 
Controls were janky, camera was janky...is it possible for them to even have a legitimate excuse with how long it's been in development for?

I never played that, which might as why I was a little disappointed. Maybe kid version just controls worse. Just an example of jank, when you jump in a direction it's like he hits an invisible wall at some point and just drops straight down. It's weird.

It seems like the time vs quality graph roughly follows a bell curve. Too little time and the game comes out rushed and bad, too long and it just becomes an unusable mess of design-by-committee, collapsing under the weight of its development time and hype. Not to say that everything that hits that middle point is good, I just can't actually recall a game that spent more than three or four years in active development that wasn't terrible, or at the very least, disappointing.

I've played both. There was something incredibly not fun about the Carbuncle demo. I just felt caused as to what i should be doing at any point in it.

I played both and the Episode Duscae demo was way better. They added platforming in the Platinum demo and it is not very well executed at all. The jumping is poor, and the camera , while fine for running, doesn't keep up with the jumping well. I'm hoping that the platforming is only in the demo, since most of the demo doesn't even have full fledged combat.
