hey guys sorry if its a little off topic.. i just ordered a new laptop with a 960m video card that can most likely play a lot of newer games.. i usually play on console but i noticed that sometimes games are much cheaper on pc anyways was wondering for phyical copies of games that come with serial keys, can you resell those after you beat them like you can with console games? or is it once you redeem the serial key it gets tied to your account or pc or something like that? thanks for your help :)...

on topic...for steam etc do AAA games ever go on sale? i still see games like the witcher 3 etc for 49.99! :) where are those sub $10 sales lol
Yeah as inmate said, there are very few instances where you can resell a PC game. On the plus side they can usually be purchased a good bit cheaper than their console versions.

You should check out the Enhanced Steam broswer extension. It does tons of useful stuff when you browse Steam through your browser like show price history, mark games you already own, etc. IsThereAnyDeal is another good tool to look up the price history for a game.

For a new PC gamer, bundle sites are a great way to beef up your library. I would keep an eye on Humble Bundle, Bundle Stars, Indie Gala, etc. Especially the new humble monthly bundles (they generally include 1 AAA game and a mix of indie games, 6 total for $10-12/month). Here is a list of games already featured in monthly bundles.

AAA games do get sales, but usually a bit slower than indie games. Steam also seems to do less drastic markdowns on games compared to previous years. I imagine The Witcher 3 has been selling really well and I don't recall seeing it go for less than $20-$25 dollars yet. Another example, GTA V has been in the top sellers list on Steam since it launched and I don't think it has ever been more than 50% off.

Also check out the first post of the thread for other websites that sell steam keys like amazon, gamersgate, greenman gaming, etc. Browsing reddit's game deals list can also be a quick way to spot deals.

If I'm going to spend 85 bucks at BJ warehouse, I'm not buying a damn Steam card, thanks.

Keep playing it and hyping it up so I can get excited about it again.

My kid was playing DA:I this weekend so I started thinking "Hey, I never finished that dagger rogue run. I should do that". First off, ever go back to a game after a year and realize you had completely forgotten how to play? "How the hell to I access my skills and what are these weapons for..?" But, more than that, I realized why I let the game drop off my second time through -- I was sitting on the cusp of the Senior Prom :speaktothehand:
Same here. I started a second play through but I didn't have the balls for the ball a second time.

No, no, the card is only to make it look legit. No actual cash value.

You know what else has a card system? Titanfall. Which is a way better game than you give it credit for, MysterD.
I never said Titanfall was a bad game. Matter of fact, I enjoyed my few hours with it. What I said was that I felt that it lacked content.

Still considering buying Divinity Original Sin.  If someone else wants a copy let me know as it should be $17.50 vs. $20.  I know that the price should come down the closer we get to Divinity Original Sin 2 comes out, but the game still sells well.

Awesome @ you ordering a new rig!

Do you have a 4GB or 2GB version of your 960m?

If you also don't mind me asking - what's the rest of your specs?

If you're not sure, Speccy is great at showing what's under your hood in lots of details. :) Naturally, I use the free version, of course. ;) I had no clue what my HDD brand was in my laptop, even at the store + whatnot (brand wasn't on the box even) - though, I knew it was some 2TB 5400rpm HDD. Thanks to Speccy, well look...it's a Seagate! (I've had Seagates in my previous desktop - those were fine).

I recently bought a Acer Nitro laptop (i7 4720HQ Haswell; 4GB 960m; 16GB RAM; upgraded it to Win 10), a few weeks back at Microcenter - and I have a 4GB version of 960m on my laptop. Handles most modern new games at 900p or 1080p at Medium settings at 30FPS or better. I'd expect + hope you have similar performance on your laptop. :)

Nope, no reselling.

Most modern PC titles require some kind of service - i.e. A LOT of 3rd-party games use Steam (especially from 2K, Bethesda/Zenimax, Square Enix, etc); EA games use Origin; Blizzard games use Battle.Net; UbiSoft uses UPlay; etc etc. So once it's activated to your account - well, it's yours forever (more or less).

Games also get a lot cheaper a lot quicker on PC b/c we're (supposedly) more niche than consoles + b/c most sales are digital here so there's less middle-men that are involved. Even more so true, when companies use their own game-client service.

Keep your eyes open.

Witcher 3 has been recently $25 on GOG (which CD Projekt owns) during their recent crazy Insomnia Sales, if you're willing to buy from there and use Non-Steam games. I know, I know...most of us use Steam, love Steam, and would rather have our games there - but sometimes, you have to make exceptions....unfortunately or fortunately (depends on how you look at that, given the scenario + situation).

But at some point, for certain games - you might be better off going non-Steam b/c you might just get better deals outside of Steam - this is especially true w/ UbiSoft titles, as normally they like to price-up their titles on Steam b/c Steam takes a 30% cut or so.

Also, learn about bundle sites and join them - you can get a lot of awesome games real cheap in big bundles from places like Humble Bundle, Indie Gala, Bundle Stars, etc.

Keep an eye also on ITAD (IsThereAnyDeal.com) - as that's a great place for price history + comparisons, when looking for deals.

EDIT:

According to ITAD - Witcher 3 for the Steam version has been $30 when sold on Steam before, BTW. Probably the only place you'll likely find a TW3 Steam-version is likely on Steam, as CDP really pushed GOG version everywhere else for sale. If you have to have TW3 on Steam, not really too much more than the cheapest price it's been for GOG version ($23 on GreenManGaming, before any vouchers/promo codes).

EDIT 2:

Another example, GTA V has been in the top sellers list on Steam since it launched and I don't think it has ever been more than 50% off.
Best deal I've seen on GTA5 PC - and which I went all in on, as well - was on D2D (Direct2Drive) on Valentine's Day [2016]. It was $40 on sale; and they had a 50% off voucher that could be stacked on top. That made GTA5 PC $20. Though, that wasn't for a Steam-version - that deal was for a Rockstar Social Club version.

Rockstar's another company going the UbiSoft + CD Projekt route here - they're pushing the hell out of their own service by having that version everywhere; pricing the game cheaper in sales for versions only using on their own service; only place to get a Steam-version's likely only on Steam directly; and Steam-version's likely going to cost more $ (b/c Steam's more popular + b/c Steam takes 30% cut or so).

I'm kind of thinking about it too, even though I am still bitter about not finding it cheap after hitting 17 Walmarts.

I'm tempted by Divinity but I'm gonna wait. If it's cheaper by summer sale I'll by it, if not i'll wait til winter and buy regardless of whether there's been a price drop...this game has taken forever to drop

I really don't mind carrying only two weapons and that mechanic, since it is a frantic MP. I can't remember using a lot of weapons per life on quake 3 or Unreal. I used one or two according to the map. But... If you can carry only 2 guns on the main SP game... That can be an issue.
I feel like it's just the opposite: I will tolerate being able to select only 2 guns in a singleplayer game. A level can be tuned to work with multiple loadouts, or you can incorporate some of the trial and error of finding the optimal loadout into the gameplay.

On the other hand, games like DOOM, Quake, and Unreal Tournament had many weapons for a reason. Each weapon excelled in a particular circumstance and part of the game was knowing when to use the correct one. Also, a HUGE part of deathmatch was weapon/pickup control. Taking that away utterly ruins that aspect and turns every map into a giant clusterfuck arena.

Go watch any good competitive DM or TDM for UT or Q3A and that is precisely what you will see -- a very strategic use of weapons, control of areas of the map that contain pickups, and pickup timing. Denying your opponent weapons and pickups is integral to dominating the map and racking up frags.

I actually got the dell xps 15 9550, i7-6700HQ, 8GB of ddr4 ram, 256gb ssd and a 1080p screen,960m with 2gbs of ram as I read the 2 or 4 really doesn't make a difference at all...though a 965 or 970 will but thats not an option on the xps 15.. ill probably add another hd that i already own as you can put 2 hd in the machine, and add another 8gb ram stick for another 20-30 bucks..hoping that when the laptop comes itll be 8x1 which is what i read on many forums, just needed something that looked professional but also can play games! :) also it has a thunderbolt usb-c adapter which supposedly at the end of the year will support eGPUs from razer or intel so hopefully that'll work for the future can just buy an external graphics card to plug into the adapter but hope that wont be till a few years...im still going to be mainly using my consoles for gaming just wanted my pc to be more versatile and future proof as I have no plans to buy a new 1 for a while! :)

I'm trying to determine whether Divinity: OS Enhanced is a better experience on the PC or console, and this is obviously the wrong place to ask.

Alot of PS4 owners have no problem with playing Divinity OS with PS4 controller and have remarked positively about it.

There's really no right answer to that. It going to depend on what PC you have and what you prefer.

You can get "console" experience on PC by pluggin it to your TV using Big Picture mode and using preferred controller whatever it is KB+M / Xbox / PS4 / Steam / NES.

Sorry dude don't have that option on mobile ..I am a noob to this thread but I've posted a lot of deals on the site and been around for a while lol...also enough about the steam card lol I'm glad you guys are enjoying yourselves

Hey, we have to find some way of enjoying ourselves in our relatively shitty lives. Alcohol can only do so much.

Dollar General had in their flyer today that they now carry $20 steam cards and listing it as on sale this week for 5% off (so $19, through Saturday the 9th).

Gas money kills it.

I went through my Groups list today and left about half of them. Now my Activity page is no longer filled with 6 of the same announcements, or giveaways of 4 games to tens of thousands of people.

It's so nice.

The hard part was figuring out which groups I was in to get a key for a particular game. Turns out most of those have already distributed their keys and are just taking up space.

I'm down to 46 and most of those are just niche groups that don't abuse the announcement feature. I'm definitely going to look into that gleamsolver going forward. Take back your activity feed! :oldman:

I took mine back when I decided to never join a group for a shitty game in the first place.

That reads snarkier than I mean it to be.

A totally valid stance.

I look at it this way: 1 shitty game for free in my library = 1 less reason to buy a shitty bundle.

Alternately: love them GabeN pennies.

Or one more Shitty game you get saddled with an extra key for because there's other games in that bundle you want and you don't feel like watching a thousand doll hair and I eat Pussy videos on Tremor and then setting your clock for 3am to get those couple of games you want before people in other countries who run an army of bots like Madjoki steal them all.

For a couple of years now I've attempted to only buy bundles that have at least 2 or 3 games I will actually play, I only try to get free games that look good to me, and I refuse to do any kind of Swagbucks type shenanigans (i.e. surveys/videos/time wasters) so Tremor is a nonstarter for me. This has kept my library fairly streamlined and I still have the issue of staring at it and wondering what to play. There was definitely snark intended, but when reading it I realized it sounded like it was directed at hal, which it was not.

Yeah, I've been there too. I've kind of gotten to the point where I will just skip the bundle if there are too many repeats/shitty games, even if I sort of want one or two games in the bundle. Stockpiling useless keys is a bummer. Seeing a higher number of repeats makes it easier to do that. Chances are if it's stuck in a bundle with a bunch of former freebies then it's not all that hot anyway.

I definitely refuse to jump through Tremor hoops, but I will do the Gleam stuff with my fake social media accounts if it isn't ridiculous. The Steam Groups, however, are out of control.

DG is in a shopping center right next to my job, but $1 off is a small discount. Still, it's less dangerous than going to Family Dollar for that Xbox credit deal they had two weeks ago.

Most mass giveaways as of late have been terrible. Maybe Alienware Arena has another one around the corner. Hover Revolt of Gamers has been a real surprise gem, as the world is quite impressive for such a small development team. It also isn't stuck in early access development hell, which is a major plus. Definitely worth checking out.

2GB vs. 4GB VRAM debate - it will make a difference on games that have settings that either require or will utilize over 2GB of VRAM, if you actually want to use those higher settings - i.e. your PC won't choke when you run settings that do go past 2GB of VRAM (i.e, pump Watch Dogs, Batman AK, ACU, AC Syn to higher settings, those can eat easily over 2GB of VRAM). Basically, it's a future-proofing thing.

That's awesome about having Thunderbolt, though - that's even better for future-proofing for when you decide to use an external graphics cards. :)

About 8GB of system RAM - that'll do for now for you. But, having that room to upgrade is definitely a good thing. :)

Sweet @ you having a SSD. I do wish SSD's gave more space, since I'm lazy and such an eater of HDD space.

Enjoy your laptop! :)

I don't feel the GTX 960m, which is the mobile equivalent of the 750 ti, is generally powerful enough to take advantage of the extra vram, but it is nice for some futureproofing. With laptops, it is more complicated than basic specs because factors like the display, keyboard, and trackpad are not easily changeable. The Dell XPS 15 has one of the better trackpads on a Windows machine and a solid keyboard, based on most reviews. An example is the Dell Inspiron 7559 vs the XPS 15, where the 7559 has 4gb vram but the XPS has 2gb. However, the XPS has the better quality build and display, along with better connectivity, keyboard, and trackpad. This does come at an increased cost, however. It is a shame that the lack of competition in the laptop space has driven the prices of laptops with dedicated gpus and quad core processors so high. The current market is filled with laptops with ulv ultrabook cpus and Intel graphics.
