Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

Had me wondering the same thing. Greed I guess. They just couldn't pass the savings on to the customers, gotta keep shareholders happy.

 
There are only two physical English Sword Art games, right? The newer PS4 one and the Asian/English Vita one, yeah? I'm looking to go back and grab those.

It's low now but by the end of the year it will be over $4.00 a gallon, watch and see.

Haven't checked this thread all weekend, but thanks for the heads up on the Zestiria CE sale. Not sure when I'll play it though, since Black Desert has consumed any free time I had whatsoever.

Anyway, I could see this possibly falling in price on their own site like their other CEs did. Hopefully I don't regret my purchase at this price point!

 
Any chance Tokyo Mirage Sessions will get a CE?  That's the main thing holding me back from putting in a preorder right now.

 
Seriously though, do you guys also think that the SO5 CE is going to end up like DQH and ToZ, sold for half price six months later? I can't see the demand for it being anywhere near the FF 15 demand.
 
$100 for an artbook and steelbook CE is pretty standard. So its overpriced by about $10 if you consider the art cards and sampler cd essentially worthless. It's the exclusivity that really hurts though with no 20% discount or free shipping.

That being said I'm not biting, though star ocean is a favorite series of mine. Not too sure about that steelbook and 88 pages is small for an artbook. I'm in for gcu though.

If it's a real artbook, sure. Not like these shitty "CE artbooks" that only contain a couple finished drawings and a character takes up a single page without anything else besides a large single drawing and some text. So much wasted space and lack of concept art as well as rough sketches is very disappointing.

The only thing that interests me is the steelbook and the artbook if it isn't some barebones piece of shit. I probably won't bite, but we'll see. Though with the game's main story being 10-20 hours long, it makes it harder for me to bite on it even if it was a good artbook.

EDIT: I'm kinda bitter about how shitty artbooks included with CEs are if you haven't noticed.

Think I'll stick to vanilla Star Ocean 5 on PS4. Waiting on word for Persona 5 CE & I'm sure Sega/Atlus will try to pull something similar to what FFXV did in the pricing department... So I can't justify this one.

Every CE on the Square Enix store seems pretty expensive for what you get.  Because it's not Amazon or Best Buy. 

That being said I think I'm still ordering this Star Ocean CE.  Getting a steelbook + soundtrack is my thing.

If anyone was curious, I contacted amazon chat and they said I will not be charged for shipping since I made the preorder before they raised the minimum. Sure enough I changed the address on my own in my account and there were no problems.

 
That steelbook with Star Ocean CE is more than a little less visually appealing to me.  If the artbook also isn't  hardcover, I think this CE will be a easy pass for me.  Well that and it's the Square Enix Store.

They call it a "sampler", though, not a soundtrack. If it was a full-blown soundtrack like in FFXIII-2's CE, I'd bite on this CE.
