CAGiversary!

Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

I also had an idea for single-player games. I usually find it really hard to go back and play an outdated game in my backlog. I thought if we could designate an older single-player game we all wanted to play but never got the chance to, for one month. I guess while playing, we can discuss it, give tips, and criticize it, that it would encourage us to actually play though it. It'd be separate from this thread though, so it doesn't block the deals and the news. I just thought it'd be cool to revitalize some of these older games, and give us a little encouragement or inspiration to finish/play it with others.

We can always discuss how to implement this, (with a poll or something) if people are actually interested.
I actually think that's an amazing idea. There are so many games that I didn't play and want to, but won't start cuz the community is dead.

What's everyone's experience with Amazon Warehouse Deals' wording when it's like this:

"May be missing one of the following: manual, cover art, or packaging."

Is it basically guaranteed to be missing something, rarely actually missing something, or just a crapshoot?

For some reason, Stock of Nights of Azure PS4 (Regular Edition) is drying up at all retailers.

The game literally came out a week ago. I was waiting on a price drop since i heard the game itself is short.

I just cant believe that is all the stock available since its only been 1 week since release.

If the condition is "Acceptable" that usually means it's just the game disc/cart and nothing else is included.

Good idea.

Whoa. Yeah, just noticed it's not in stock on Best Buy's website. I just ordered one last night after noticing no stores in my area had any. Good timing on my part, I guess.

its a crap shoot as I have ordered acceptables that came disc only and just as many that were listed wrong and ended up being new or like new. If you see a description nine times out of ten its a generic descrip they just throw on everything. Best odds are like new or with a description that says small mark or scratch on such and such.

Amazon doesn't have it either and only one Gamestop in my town has it. Strange.

How many times did you fight the boss? It's meant to be more representative of the final game. I was bored out of my mind the first time through, but once I heard about the shuriken and shield, and heard you could instantly refight the boss at a higher level, I played the fight like 5 times in a row and it was having a blast. Never played Duscae either.
I played Duscae and had more fun with that. It's an actual slice of the game with the open world and all that, but it felt more flash than substance. I feel that the flow of the game should be tied to its performance, and feeling like there's a second input delay in busy battles takes me a bit out of it. Visuals also seem to take a downgrade every time there's a new build of the game out. The VII remake looks like a reskinned version of XV at this point, so it's not inspiring a lot of long-term confidence in what Square's doing.

I'm down too, this sounds like an awesome idea. I also agree on the length of the game. It's hard for me to get into 50+ hour games nowadays.
I think 30-50 hours would be the sweet spot. It's just long enough to be discouraging playing solo, but long enough to enjoy with a good discussion and tips being shared.

I actually want the indie rogue-likes more than anything, even JRPG and VNs. Nuclear Throne, Rogue Legacy, Binding of Isaac, probably Gungeons.

Weird. Apparently I bought a bunch of PS+ 12 month codes on Amazon back when they were $30 around three years ago and I never used any. Came across them while looking at my digital amazon purchases and decided to try them as they were all showing codes as if I was going to enter them since I previously agreed to terms. Every single god damn code worked. What the hell have I been doing these last three years. :wall:

Going by the survey, I hope this means they are considering expanding into Wii U, 3DS, and Xbox One releases.
Regarding XBox One, keep in mind that Yacht Club Games cancelled the physical XBox One version of Shovel Knight because they wanted to print an amount lower than what Microsoft allows. I imagine LRG would want to do even smaller print runs.

It'll be harder to do Wii U and 3DS, considering the fact that they're Region Locked. If they were to do Xbox One Limited Runs, the print run would have to be larger than the PS4/Vita runs.

Oh I know, which is why I was surprised to see it on the survey. I guess they are just trying to gauge interest but it would be nice to see them expand beyond the Playstation platforms.

So Blizzard already changed Tracer's Over the Shoulder Pose.

You still see her butt. lol.

i voted for action, horror, shooter, fighter. only japanese games. Manual, steelbook. no to every other console.
That better trigger Phantom Breaker.

FF7 Remake looking at FFXIII saga as model for release, possible plot changes

-In regards to FFVII remake. Looking at the FFXIII saga as a model of release (three full-fledged games). Each game will be the size of a FFXIII game is specifically stated. In other words full scale 30+ hour RPG, and they also say plot wise nothing is off the table in terms of changes. They clarify they aren't changing everything but Kitase, Nomura, and Nojima feel since they were involved with the original game that they have the liberty to add / change what they want while still making fans happy. They also state they want FFVII Remake to gave a much shorter development cycle than FFXV.

LRG is definitely interested in Phantom Breaker and are trying to get to it.

FF7 will be in development longer than FFXV confirmed.

Heh, well played blizzard. I do have to hand it to them for changing it how they see fit (more in line with how they see the character) without removing the primary concern of contention.

I just noticed Odin Sphere, Grand Kingdom, and Zero Time Dilemma are all coming out at the end of June. Was thinkin' I'd activate my 30-day Amazon prime trial to get the 20% discount on all 3. And 7th Dragon comes out in July. Might just throw that in too while the prime is active. Should work right? It should autoapply to existing preorders too? For once it'll be useful for everything to be coming out at once.

Does anyone know what happens if I apply a gift card to an order and then the order goes down in price(due to Prime), do I get my excess gift card amount back? I mean I should, but just checkin'.

Oh shoot Odin Sphere is June 7, and 7th Dragon is July 12th. Hmm...But if it works on new releases(within 2 weeks), maybe I can activate on June 13th, and do a price adjustment?

This...this is what I'm waiting for, lol. I know its supposed to be for BattleGrounds, lol. But please, how about rights to the English 360 release of the original 1v1 fighter that never happened due to company screwup to not even bother releasing it and closing thereafter, the game still exists in some form regardless. Sheesh, even screwattack unboxed the US LE that we'll probably never have stateside. (Unless those LE's still exist somehow. Oh, and the viewing of the PB Eightarc Arcade Stick, which is kinda rare now in itself.)

Either ways, I could dream, but wishful thinking proceeds otherwise. >.> (Hey, at least I'm better of with the stickers from AX, the PB Artbook translated by Udon, some promo cards, and a digital PS3 version of PB:Extra.)

I know it's not in English, but are you aware that you could import the PS3 version of Phantom Breaker Extra about $20-30 on Amazon/Ebay? I would agree with you but PB already exists in a physical format, whereas Battlegrounds got screwed out of a physical release. Damn Japan, releasing a retail version with just a downloadable code, just like Minecraft Vita. >.>

Are there any type of Shōjo-ish kinda games that has adorable art like the Atelier series that's like a hack & slash kinda like Diablo? lol The turnbased aspect of Atelier was too much lolol
