Welcome to the Japanese niche games deals and discussion thread!  Feel free to talk about local and import Japanese games here.  Our goal is to maintain a thread dedicated to active deals on niche games including RPGs, Visual Novels (VN), Shoot'em ups (Shmups), Musou, etc.  Also maintained are pre-orders for standard, limited and collector's edition games with key release dates provided.

I've wikified the thread to make it more friendly and open to others that can actively update with important information. You can find the wiki post directly below this one.

NOTE:  Please, leave the censorship discussion away from this thread.  It's common for japanese games to have questionable content outside of the country.  We want to keep discussions to the game itself and not about cultural/societal tolerance.

A message from Thorbahn:

Our CAG Japanese Niche Games Thread also has a community on PS4, where you can interact and game with other members of the thread.

Our moderators are: Draekon, Las_Hole, and Waffleswanton

You can basically friend any of our members, or any moderator, and you will be able to request to join the community under "Communities friends are in" tab, and a mod will approve your request.

You can also leave your PSN ID in the thread, saying you want to join, and we can invite you directly as well.

As always, have fun and enjoy your stay!

I emailed NISA support for some help with orders last night around 8:30 PM and they replied to me today with a resolution. Pretty impressed!

They need to start consolidating these on a single system/console series. This series has been on like 7 or 8 freaking different platforms (PS2, PS3, GBA, DS, 3DS, PSP, Vita, Mobile)
That was the whole point of Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.8, no? They consolidated most (if not all) of the titles on the PS3/PS4 platforms.

it only consolidated 4 games I believe.
1.5 and 2.5 HD were each three games, so six between those two. All of the games that had been released at the time except the 3DS one were included on one of those two (although the 358/2 days inclusion was just cutscenes).

I'm not sure about 2.8 because I haven't been keeping up with the news on it.

Any chance Tokyo Mirage Sessions will get a CE? That's the main thing holding me back from putting in a preorder right now.
I hope not, that's the main reason I'm passing on it at launch - can just pick it up later on since there's no CE. I already have 4 CE's preordered now that are releasing in June (SO5, No Man's Sky, Odin Sphere, Grand Kingdom). :fridge:

I've never been able to get into smartphone/tablet games... but I just can't see myself not buying a Kingdom Hearts game that's on a platform I own. I hadn't even heard of this game before today, but I'm totally getting it.

Companies in the past have restricted their yet to be released products to be sold on eBay. I believe Apple did this at one time as well. Don't see why Square couldn't do this as well.

I'm by no means a fan of scalpers, but they really have no right to do that.

The amount from reseliing CE game is a drop in the bucket compare to Apple stuff

From eBay's policy on presales:

If you want to list presale items, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Guarantee that the item will be available for shipping within 30 days from the purchase date. Be sure to clearly state this information in your listing.
  • Clearly indicate in the listing that the item is a presale item.
  • The handling time specified in your listing should reflect the time from the end of the listing until the item is shipped to the buyer. Be sure to specify the correct handling time in your listing.
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/pre-sale.html

So, really all of the listings for FF15 could be ended right now being that it's more than 30 days away from release or 39 including the duration time for a 10 day listing, which is the max duration.

Dealt with severely...? What are they going to do, end capitalism? Square Enix needs to focus on making decent games and not on what people do with said games after buying them.

I've played both FF XV demos and, if they're any indication of the finished title, this game still needs a lot of work.

Thus why I said 4 since while 2 other titles that are on there they aren't games but a cutscene compilations to my knowledge. I don't consider cutscene compilations games.

2.8 has ddd a random presequel to bbs apparently and another bunch of new cutscenes. Making a presequel is the dumbest thing I have heard of in a while. Either it will crap all over continuity or it will just be shoehorned in to be a dump for plot exposition.

All these Square Enix associated statements regarding the FFXV CE are a riot.   First they advertise it as 30,000 units limited edition !! so that they aren't stuck holding their cocks when people balk at the $270 cost and fence sit for months.  So it immediately sells out.  Then they act like they're actually upset about the sellout or something lol.  They were the ones that decided to announce quantities and not limit orders in the first place.  Now all the backpedaling and PR hindsight language of "severe consequences" and "dealing with the scalpers" and "orders will be cancelled" is an absolute joke.  All the noise is PR nonsense. They're not going to print 10k more and risk another 10k cancellations.  With six months until release it actually would be possible (big maybe) to do another batch but if this was a month or two later it wouldn't be possible due to supply chain and operations management.   If a small batch ever does go up for sale again it will be another quick sellout and everyone that missed out will miss out again and cry harder.  You can't give a warning or a notice of sale time b/c the professionals will be all over it. The majority of the people bitching wouldn't even be spending their money on one if it was readily available for sale.  People just like to flail and go nuts after a sellout. :whee:

Publishers and distributors fail to realize that flippers and speculators, in fact, drive the market.  If you don't like it, stop advertising your products as limited quantity.  It's simple.  You can't have it both ways.  It's the high margins that accompany high MSRPs that attracts flippers in the first place.  It's a catch 22.  As a publisher do you want a sellout or not?  These companies make us jump through hoops to buy $270 CEs six months in advance of release for god's sake.  They know exactly what they're doing.  The price point is direct proof.

The story said what they're gonna do:

“The people placing abnormal orders that suggest possible purchases for the purpose of reselling, will be told that they will be dealt with severely in conformity with the agreement.”
So people that placed multiple orders will have their orders cancelled. I'm quite sure it was already limited to one per person by the system... So S-E's not gonna do a damn thing.

Although really I have no problem with people flipping their orders. If somebody was willing to pay me 3x the value of a big ticket thing I had, I'd sell it in a heartbeat. I think anybody that doesn't flip if they're actually selling at $900 is stupid, because if you don't sell it you're essentially paying $900 for it yourself.

Got that new PSN game Enter the Gungeon tonight. Its REALLY fun. Its a Shoot Em Up/Bullet Hell mixed with a Dungeon Crawler/Rogue-like game, kinda reminds me of stuff like Rogue Legacy and Binding of Isaac.

I still think that the NX is going to use the 3DS (or it's new equivalent) as its touch screen controller, similar to the Wii U Gamepad.   That way they can get people to buy them separately and make even more money.  It smells like Zelda Four Swords Adventures.

I predict the NX will let you hook up a WiiU pad to play WiiU games while having a completely different controller of it's own, sort of like the the WiiU does with the Wii and the Wii did with the Gamecube.

Also, can we get news sources to stop taking Reddit's word for this stuff? They've not proven accurate.

Just finished the new FF15 demo, and still not really that excited for it. This new demo just proves it's more Kingdom Hearts than FF. The music was really pretty, but holding down buttons for auto moves and clunky platforming just don't feel like FF to me. Hope there's more depth than what's currently there.

Just want Persona 5 to come out already.

How many times did you fight the boss? It's meant to be more representative of the final game. I was bored out of my mind the first time through, but once I heard about the shuriken and shield, and heard you could instantly refight the boss at a higher level, I played the fight like 5 times in a row and it was having a blast. Never played Duscae either.

Where is the optionv to remove those stupid tiles. Im never going to use the Playroom, PS Music, PS Vue, etc. Or at least let me put em in a folder.

I have the Game Informer sub for some reason with PUR, but I never actually read it. I wouldn't mind scanning and posting the article for FFXV like I did for the P5 one.

No idea how the community event thing works, but I'll try it out with a lobby for SFV if anybody is interested. (I guess it'll be like sign up, and get automatically added to the party when it starts, kinda thing.) Also see that there is quite a bit of interest piqued for Sword Art Online Re, so I'll finally dig it out of my backlog and get started. I figure we could have like one game dedicated per month, where we can devote our time to clearing our backlogs month by month, or if it's shorter, maybe like cycle through the games every 2 weeks. Could be multiple games at a time too if enough people are interested in finishing/playing a particular game that month.

I also had an idea for single-player games. I usually find it really hard to go back and play an outdated game in my backlog. I thought if we could designate an older single-player game we all wanted to play but never got the chance to, for one month. I guess while playing, we can discuss it, give tips, and criticize it, that it would encourage us to actually play though it. It'd be separate from this thread though, so it doesn't block the deals and the news. I just thought it'd be cool to revitalize some of these older games, and give us a little encouragement or inspiration to finish/play it with others.

We can always discuss how to implement this, (with a poll or something) if people are actually interested.
