PSNOT 3.0 - Let's Talk About University of Kentucky, Baby!

So now that Uncharted is done and I have no new releases before No Man's Sky...time to dig into the backlog. Maybe I'll even boot up a PS3 game for a change!

$20 per remaster is a fair price, IMO. I think Batman is pushing it at $50 for two games, especially since they've already turned a few off by leaving one of the games out.

Capcom has had a lot of success at the $20 price point for the Resident Evil remakes (especially the early ones), which probably take even more work since they're being ported from older code with more dated assets.

fucking nuts to think Tomb Raider and Sleeping Dogs remakes launched at $60 by themselves. Square was just smart enough to release those right at the beginning of the console cycle when everyone was starved for retail new-gen games. No way would they get away with that now.
I think what maybe some people forget not everyone has owned video game consoles for 8 plus years and has played every game that was out on the previous generation.

No way would I pay $60 for a remaster of ANY game I have already played. But plenty of people might be playing Sleeping Dogs, Tomb Raider, Last of Us etc for the first time.

I think I bought 3 games at launch this year. Quantum Break $48 (new), Doom $48 (new) and now UC4 (less then $40 used with coupon). I will probably buy Gears at launch and probably digital.

We aren't the typical video game buyer.

For someone who hasn't played either of those Batman games $50 might seem like a decent deal.

With trade values sub $40 now on brand new games I am likely to buy even less games at launch. Most are $10 off in a couple weeks and even cheaper in a couple months. But again most people don't give a shit. They have the money and want to play the latest game RIGHT NOW.

I used to be more like this but as I fall further and further behind in my backlog I end up picking a few titles each year I want to play at launch rest can wait. Till at least $30 before GCU.

If you want to talk remasters:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_remasters_for_PlayStation_consoles#PlayStation_4

Surprised nobody mentioned God of War III. $40 for the one game. Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is also $60 for 2 games.
I bought it twice. Once on PS4 and once on XBox One. Spent under $60 for both. More then got my monies worth out of this remaster.

Also the Metro games were two games. Glad I picked it up for cheap as I gave up on the 2nd Metro on PS3. Ended up playing through both and really enjoying both games.

The two PS4 Metro remasters were like $6.99 or something recently when I picked them up even though I played them both before.  Fun shooters and worth the $3 each.

Also, I hate to admit it when that hipster Cainiac is right but this stuff is prety damn good for zero calorie. Especially mixed with vodka...

[snipbluemonster]
They have the sugar free version of that at work and it's pretty good. Can't really tell the difference. And I had a watermelon version over the weekend that was also damn tasty.

Prototype's 2 games were remastered apparently last year for $50 and they stunk, according to reviews.
I liked the first one well enough on PS3. Wasn't crazy about the 2nd one. For $5 for the 1st and maybe $7.50 for both I might buy them. Didn't think it was series that needed a remaster.

I liked the first on PC quite a bit so I grabbed them in the recent sale. $26 for the two together. Purchased on a separate PSN account so I can resell the games later because yeah that's a bit high for those games if there's no way to drop the cost. Activision hates putting stuff on sale, though, so with the remasters being digital-only the odds aren't great for a better discount down the road.

Actually I wouldn't consider Prototype to be a remaster so much as a port of the games. Same with Dishonored, since other than a bump in resolution they're untouched otherwise, right?

They haven't remastered the Infamous games yet, right? Kinda weird that Prototype got a remaster, but Infamous hasn't yet. I thought Infamous was generally the prefered series?

remasters ive played:

tr - paid 7.50 digital for it, played it before on 360, was good to play through again, graphics were a little better and it ran great.

ucc - paid 20 digital, great value, liked going through all 3

metro redux - not sure exactly what i paid, physical, think it was 20 or so, maybe 25. Bought a good while back, need to finish the 2nd one, first one was pretty good.

handsome colleciton, pretty sure 30 digital, only played bl2 mostly, played some of tps so far, but bl2 played WAY better on ps4 than ps3, did a few double trophys thanks to the cloud save, and ps3 version was awful compared to ps4

Overall, I think the remasters are a great value at the right prices. Im with tyler on the TR, and I THINK metor redux launch at 60 too, they came out early enough that 60 wasnt crazy and there wasnt much else going on next gen yet. But 50 for both batmans is too high to start with, should be 40. R&C was 40 for one game and that seems to be a favorite of most people and a good price for admission.

R&C isn't a remaster, it's a complete remake and can't really be held to the same standard IMO.

Sucker Punch totally gave over the reins to Sly to Sanzaru who ported the games to ps3 then went on to make the 4th game. For infamous, they probably didn't want to do the remaster themselves (especially since they were making second son/first light) but also didn't want someone else to do it. That said, I'd be down for a ps4 bundle of 1, 2, and Festival of Blood. But that's also the contents of the ps3 infamous collection, so that's another reason it probably won't happen.

It'd be cool if they did a Zeke Presents Infamous remaster. Bookend the story with animated bits where he's starting/ending the story and some content between each title, and a transition piece into Second Son.

You guys will jump on RDR Remastered at $60, though. Don't lie!
I will probably wait for a price drop or 3. I never got around to playing that one so while it is an older game most of you had played I haven't.

It was backwards compatible on XBox One for a few hours but it isn't anymore. If they flip the switch again and it cheap enough I would give it a try.

Yeah it was $30 when we bought it. Was $24 on XBoner but they charge me tax.

Borderlands Handsome Collection is $20 at Amazon right now and I'm tempted.  Never did finish part one on PS3 or even start up 2, but I bought both.  For the same $20 price I think too.

Has anyone not run through the collection on PS4 that still needs/wants to?

If you get no takers on BL2 I would run through it with you again if you want. Always looking for an excuse to play more BL2.

Not really interested in playing TPS but if you get stuck or need a hand I would help you out.

I still need to play through a good chunk of TPS. But I can jump on BL2 to help you if you need it on stuff.

Let me know if you ever want to do the TPS DLC. I would still help you finish the main game too but if Zimm wants to play that with you that is fine.

I need to play BL2/2.5 on PS4 still but I tend to fully explore everything and do every quest. Guessing that doesn't mesh that well with MP. :whistle2:k
The co-op lets you do whatever you want. You could play the main story stuff with someone (up to 3 others) and do the side missions on your own later. One thing to be aware of if you join random games they could be further along in the story. You could STILL play the main missions later on your own but you would be out of order and spoiled. If you care about that stuff. When you get to a mission you already played with others online you have the option of fast forwarding/skipping or you can choose to play that mission again.

You have to hit level 50 if you want to plat the game. So you could play the first time on your own solo and then play on True Vault Hunter mode with friends or randoms or both.

TPS explore everywhere trophies SUCKS.  I would almost play that solo for that reason alone.  The map fills in even though you missed a spot somewhere.  So if playing co-op it is easy to miss about 4 spots that will show as filled in on your map.

BL2 isn't nearly as bad I just finished it 100% on the base game on XBox One.  I missed 1 or 2 spots which were NOT filled in on the map and pretty easy to find.  I spent hours upon hours trying to find the filled in spots I missed on TPS to get those trophies.

I tried playing BL2 on 360 but I was always the person who hadn't played yet because I didn't have as much time for games as most. It was just being led around like a dog on a leash. It wasn't that fun. Probably makes more sense to play it solo the first time, but I never bothered to do that.

Trying to play through BL2 with a friend on XBone. We got I think 3 chapters in and haven't been back. I stopped using that character so it would be the same level as him. As you said it isn't much fun being many levels lower then everyone else as they run through the maps. At least not the first time through.

street fighter 5 update (spoilered because literally no one cares but yet I post it anyways):

I picked up my 300th ranked win today.  I'm still not sick of it, but I'm definitely taking a break.  With those 300 wins there has to have been at least 300 losses or more.  I'm currently stuck in the bottom of silver rank and still have no hope of actually making it to gold league without doing a bunch of lame rage quitting.  the rank dispersion is officially janked now - no one that sucks as much as me is left playing in the morning so I've gotten just good enough to break even but can't make any progress.

tl;dr people play street fighter really seriously and I can't hang.

I also got the terrible 100 match hell survival trophy.  it's not too terrible to cheese through, but around match 80 the AI turns in to this nasty combo machine so if you make any mistakes they obliterate half your life before you can blink.  so several matches I ended with a pixel in the life bar and lucked out being able to refill it fully from the between match rewards.

it's a shame the game launched so poorly with such an e-sports aim - I've had more fun playing it online than I ever did sf4 but there just isn't anything to do single player that's even halfway fun.  it's mostly just teaching tools.

anyhoo, time for a long sf5 grinding hiatus so I can focus on dead star grinding like I should be doing!

I dont know why I am grinding these last couple trophies in Bully.  I really should have just quit the game once I finished the main story and side missions.  Getting to 160K trouble points is such a waste of time yet here I am doing it just to get a meaningless platinum trophy.

I blame Gator.

And holy fuck this shit is a grind.

Gator almost never talks about trophies here. Blame Jimbo/Kilik/Therm

Shouldn't gator be saving uncollected trophies for when the bomb drops? What's he going to do when the supply dries up?

Damn I miss having Amazon Prime
If fucking sucks to pay for, and it fucking sucks to not have.

I got lucky to be locked into a large "family" plan split multiple ways, so it's relatively cheap for me. I don't think they allow that anymore.
