Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

Eh, I really don't care for this mid-cycle stuff. I partially play consoles so I don't have to worry about hardware changes for a while. I went EIGHT years before upgrading my main platform with the 360 and had a great time with that generation. Minor tweaks are fine but such a major change will shaft those of us that choose not to upgrade, if the 4 times power is real.

Just look at the much smaller upgrade of the New 3DS, and Hyrule Warriors Legends. It's a fairly major title and runs like hot garbage on the standard 3DS. Now, I don't buy 4 times the power for a mid-cycle console. They do have wiggle room since Kinect is dead, but I don't see much more than double power being feasible at a decent price point.

I guess we'll see over time. Xbone Slim at E3 makes sense. I think a more powerful system at a presumably higher price point is a hard sell to the average consumer without something beyond higher resolutions or frame rates. PS4.5 has VR at least, even if it ends up being a flop.
As someone else pointed out earlier, the 8-10 years between console cycles was an anomaly. The original Xbox to 360 was 4 years and the Wii U to NX is 4 1/2 for example. And the new 3Ds is another mis-step on Nintendo's part. They haven't taken advantage of that hardware or conveyed that to devs so it's all on them.

I've read in a few places MS is negotiating with Oculus to get that running on the Scorpio. Makes sense. That's what PS is doing with their VR(Morpheus) and the Neo. This is all part of their plan of UWP. Either upgrade or don't. Most games for "Scorpio" will be a slight upgrade in graphics, etc like the X1 was to the 360 in the beginning. Titanfall, Madden, NBA2K, etc.....once you get a year or two in(2018/2019), will the true "next Gen games" come. Then you can upgrade to the Scorpio after 6 years with a bundle of games when you buy it. And all X1 games(and a gaggle of 360 ones) will be backwards compatible. UWP

I was an early adopter for Xbox One and was rewarded with a higher price tag, nothing of note to play and none of my friends to play with. I won't make that mistake this time, so they'd better have some games to go with this bad boy instead of that multi-gen release nonsense.

However, I am excited that BC is a priority so that when I do upgrade before my cheap friends, we can still play together. Plus insta-BC with XB1 would mean no lazy cash grab remasters next gen, which is great.

Yeah, I know. But by the time these placeholder systems come out we'll be around that 4 year mark. I would just prefer they hold of another year and do real next gen systems if anything. I feel like last gen ended up having some nice benefits from lasting so long. Developers really mastered the hardware by the end and squeezed out some amazing stuff at the tail end.

This weird upgrade stuff just feels unnecessary unless they plan to leverage some new gimmick with it. They probably just make more money this way and they see the culture of idiots upgrading iPhones every 6 months at full price for minimum effort "upgrades".

If the future of consoles is an upgrade every 3 or so years, PC just becomes more appealing.

A ten-year generation is a bit misleading. Don't they go by console launch to when the last games are made for a console, rather than console launch to next gen console launch? I mean, the Xbox One has been out for a few years, but they're still making games for the 360.

"Real next Gen" systems? Look, I'm not trying to start a debate or anything, but from the rumored specs(4x more powerful), what do you expect from "next Gen?" UWP is in place, so it'll be more dev friendly so we can get a year of gaming heaven like 2007. Hell, even 360 to X1 was honestly not as much of a jump as most of us would have hoped/expected the 1st year. Lots of us went through early adoption growing pains. And as Frisky I think pointed out, the specs can change between here and Fall 2017.

And the "gimmick" for both consoles, is VR and the best graphics possible / 4k. Not motion control, a gaming tablet or w/e nonsense they might have up their sleeves. And comparing phones to consoles lifelines is like apples to oranges. I'm not even gonna start. I'm going back to Arkham Knight now. 😊

Not sure about all of you, but I'm perfectly happy with my X1 and whatever resolution its giving me.  I 90% won't be getting the new system next year... unless of course they start gimping the games ala Black Ops III for last gen consoles

I've never bought a console on launch year. I like others to beta test it for me. Plus I usually have so much to play still and I'm not a child so I never have that left behind feeling anymore.

Thoughts on Max Payne 3 for $5?
Worth it, by far. Even the vanilla version w/o dlc. Rockstar game is Rockstar with their production values. DLC will go sale again in the future if you want it. You know how often Rockstar sales occur here

Edit: Love Batman AK. Snagging the season pass cause no one said not to. CAG cred be damned

Just went to check my data usage for the month, only to find out that Xfinity is increasing usage for everyone to 1 terabyte starting June 1st.  I'm so excited.  Never have to worry about data again.

Gee, MS, I really would like to buy Cybertron Experience, though I can't do it on Xbox.com nor on my 360.   Thanks for wasting my time, and let's get that fixed before the sale's over, please.

Is it on sale? If not don't drop $40 on that. Complete waste. Worst sp I ever bought and I even game shared it.

For anyone who cares, NBA Live 16 is now available in the Vault. I haven't played a Live game since 1998, but for free, I'll give it a whirl. It can't be that bad, can it?

Like I always say...only buy the Arkham Knight season pass if you care about achievements and are a completionist. It's just a shitload of racing challenges, skins, and some 15 minute side missions.

Worth it. Bought it digitally last year for 7.50 I think and it was worth it then. The story is a bit long winded and forgettable, but the gameplay is very good. The achievements are fun to get as well. The game is nominally a 3rd-person shooter with cover mechanic, and you can play it like that if you want, but it is more fun to dive in and use bullet time to flush enemies out instead of picking them off from behind cover. Can't speak to the MP though as I've never tried it. Graphics are definitely last gen but the varied environments are detailed and help keep things from being boring.

I'm pretty sure you're the one that misunderstood that whole thing if you think Sony had the exact same plans and decided to change it all on a whim at the last minute to win a press conference. If you have proof of that claim, I'm interested in seeing it. From what I had seen, Sony's Adam Boyes talked about them already heavily leaning towards not having an always online requirement before the #NoDRM stuff broke out all over Twitter. The same was already promised right after the reveal by Shuhei Yoshida. They left the online pass stuff up in the air, but announced at that E3 that online play would require a PS+ sub in the hopes of encouraging developers to drop that practice, which largely died off fairly soon after launch. If they were planning to have everything MS announced, their OS would've likely had the same remnants of such features at launch much like the Xbox One OS did before the many updates to fix and tighten up things over the year or so after launch. People are very critical about them being incredibly slow to make significant updates to the PS4 OS, so why would that not have been the case if what you're claiming was true?

If you've forgotten, the Xbox One stuff started well in advance of E3 with their reveal a few weeks earlier where a myriad of PR issues caused a ton of confusion about features and such that nobody on the Xbox seemed to want to or be allowed to set the record straight. This Kotaku recap seems to capture the confusion and lack of definitive info on various topics quite well from online requirements to whether indies were allowed to self-publish at all like every other platform. That supposed battle at E3 actually happened at the Xbox One reveal when Microsoft laid out their vague set of cards and Sony's plans could be more confident.

Xbox One may have had a better start than Xbox 360, but the PS4 started lapping them pretty quickly and has had Phil Spencer and company largely admitting to defeat. Phil has done a great job taking over the burning wreck that Don Mattrick left for him and turning it around, but they lost the market share they had and now refuse to talk sales numbers. Even that big article announcing the end of Xbox 360 production refused to mention how much units were sold, so they don't want people to be able to talk about the numbers now. You don't do that if it's a huge success, as they're trying to change the narrative to the MAU (Monthly Active Users) being the important thing even though it's only interesting to developers and publishers.

Spoilered to save some space.
2nd spoiler won't open for me... removed custom tag for quote.

That's it? I thought there was supposed to be at least one significant story add on? Wasn't the SP $40?
I think he using hyperbole to exaggerate that short length of the dlc story missions. I think I heard they're only an hour or so each.

I thought the x1/ps4 specs were underwhelming, so I'm happy to see new hardware on the horizon. Especially for m$, if they want an OS running in the background why don't they pony up the $0.15 for a couple more gbs of dedicated ram? I like the xbox controller and more of my friends have xboxes (for now). I do expect we will see a lot of people with ps4s picking up x2s and people who had x1s pick up a ps4k, so depending on my friend's choices I might be going that route too.

Lucky! I went over my data last month in large part due to doing dumb crap like downloading DC Universe Online and never playing it.

I think the truth is mostly somewhere in between. I got about a half hour out of the character-based story missions on average. I've heard A Matter of Family (the only one I haven't done yet) is about an hour long, with an extra half hour if you want to get collectibles. Season of Infamy is supposedly a couple of hours long.

As far as the other ones, I suppose they can all be completed that quickly, but that doesn't mean it's likely, especially playing them for the first time. If someone beat Catwoman's in 15 minutes with the annoying Riddler-bot fight at the end, hats off to them. Then again, I take my time in most games and I'm almost always behind the curve when it comes to completion times.

I'm thinking of getting Fallout New Vegas from the sale, but I'm worried I might be missing out since it's the vanilla version. Do you guys think it's likely there will be a sale on New Vegas DLC down the line?

I'm not sure what the current prices are but I was able to buy both Fallout 3 Got Edition (or whatever it's called) and New Vegas Got Edition new for $15 each from Gamestop last year. May have even been $10.
Edit: I just checked Amazon and they have the Ultimate Edition for $15.

I thought for $13 it was worthwhile. Better if it was $10. The base game was so great I did not feel bad spending the extra money. The extra challenge maps and tracks make the achievements associated with the cars and characters a breeze also. You do not even have to be that good to get enough stars. It definitely makes getting the 69 AR star achievement simple. Just remember that it is the white AR number and not the yellow. You only get white stars by doing the challenge or track with the original character or car (this is only for the 69 AR achievement, all others can be gotten by playing any map).

The Arkham Stories are pretty bad though. A matter of family is really the only one that seems like they spent any time on and it is still super short. Season of Infamy is not bad though and integrates into the main game fine enough.

as a huge fan of Arkham Knight I recommend the season pass just for the extra mission level season of infamy

but I will tell you that all of the separate 15-30 minute character missions are absolute dog shit

Hopefully they don't pull that next game and make all of the dlc extra missions within the game rather than that side crap

Who's your ISP? Comcast increased 300GB to 1TB
How do you guys tell what your data cap is? Does it say on your monthly bill? And will they tell you (with numerous letters) if they start implementing a cap? Pretty sure we don't have a cap, but just curious.

I'm kinda torn about console upgrades.  I sold a bunch of stuff to be able to afford my SO X1 and I really like it, but I also talked my wife into letting me get a nice 60" 4K set this past Thanksgiving.  If an upgrade X1 comes out offering 4K support, it's going to be hard for me not to buy into it, especially if there is a trade-in deal.

Also, any opinions on Rogue Legacy?  It sounds interesting, but the last pixel side-scroller I bought (Adventures of Pip) got old really fast.

What about OlliOlli?  Kinda hard to ignore for $2, but is it any good?

Rogue Legacy is great. Beat it on PC, then PS4, and now working on it for X1. It's hard at first because your character is really weak, but as you play you get coins and when you die you use those coins to upgrade your character traits, so after a while you feel appropriately powered

Mine says it if I login to my ISP website. I go over every month on my data and have yet to get a letter or anything.

[customspoiler="Second part."]Xbox One may have had a better start than Xbox 360, but the PS4 started lapping them pretty quickly and has had Phil Spencer and company largely admitting to defeat. You don't do that if it's a huge success, as they're trying to change the narrative to the MAU (Monthly Active Users) being the important thing even though it's only interesting to developers and publishers.[/customspoiler]

Spoilered to save some space.
Once again, just look at last generation. The Wii absolutely DESTROYED the 360 and the PS3 the first 4-5 years it was on the market in regards to hardware sales. The gap was even bigger than the gap were seeing right now between the Xbox One and PS4, percentage wise. Yet again, the 360 and the PS3 were still HIGHLY successful consoles. Your clearly putting WAY too much meaning into winning the #1 spot for hardware in a generation.

As for Phil Spencer admitting defeat, that was in regards to being #1 in regards to hardware sales, which as we saw last generation is pretty meaningless overall as you can still have a HIGHLY successful console without being #1 in hardware sales. He wasn't suggesting the Xbox One was a failure in any way shape or form. ANd just becasue the PS4 will win the #1 spot for hardware doesnt mean the XBox One isn't also a success. It just means that Sony is going to win the generation in regards to hardware sales, nothing more and nothing less. Once again you can have more than one successful console on the market at a time. The Wii absolutely destroyed the PS3 and 360 in regards to hardware sales, yet both were still HIGHLY successful consoles that made both companies a LOT of money. Xbox One is doing great and when all is said and done will be a highly successful console for MS. Just because Sony won this generation in regards to hardware sales doesnt change that fact. Again, some people are CLEARLY putting way too much importance on being #1 in hardware sales.

Bottom line - The Xbox One is the most successful console to date for MS in regards to hardware sales, at this point in its lifespan, and by a pretty significant margin. Anyone who puts a negative spin on that is either a Sony fanboy, just hates MS in general, or has very little understanding of the gaming market, or business for that matter, as a whole. Again, XBox One had a bad launch and those days are LONG past. Everything since Phil Spencer has come on board has been extremely positive. PS3 had a bad launch as well, due to its excessively high price tag. That didn't stop the PS3 from becoming one of the most successful consoles of all time.

Can anyone tell me of the xbox rewards page for Overwatch changes when you buy the game? I preordered it digitally and I don't see any sort of acknowledgement of it.
Mine hasn't updated. Oddly enough when I go to Xbox.com overwatch doesn't show up as purchased but it does on the app and on my Xbox. I'm guessing there's a disconnect between the pre-order and their website. I'm interested if others see the same thing

I guess I'd say Xbox already tried it's gimmick with Kinect 2.0, but VR as it currently is would definitely be called a gimmick by me. It has a LOT of growing to do.

As for "real" next gen, I mean these new consoles will be held back by the current iteration of the consoles, otherwise they alienate all the early adopters. Until they go on to PS5 and Xbox Two, they aren't "next gen".

How is Chariot? I wanted to get it a while ago when it was $8, but opted out since my wife reminded me of my backlog. Seeing it now for $4 I may bite, as it seems like something both her and I can play.

Rewards generally take a couple weeks to show up.

Picked up Overwatch last night. Got caught in the "just one more match and then I'll go to sleep" trap.
Tell me about it. Loaded it up, said I would play a game or two and played until about 2am. Had to get up at 7, thinking I'd be tired today all i can think about is getting home and playing again. The beta didn't have me addicted but the full game sure does.

Welcome to the lack of sleep club brother.
I added you and a few more CAG's. Feel free to invite me if you guys ever see me on, GT: CobraSavage22

Also i'm getting really good with Tracer...was getting 20+ kills a game last night and had 35 in one game which I think is my highest of any character.

I added you also. It's always fun to play with someone.

Tracer is cool, I haven't really played a hero I dislike yet. I think the key seems to be switching heroes to adapt to the situation. Last night I went 17 and 5 as Junkrat on defense, then we switched to offense and a long distance turret was just dominating me as Junkrat so I switched to Widowmaker and killed the builder with the Sniper rifle and then we could start pushing forward again. I think the worst thing to do is if you keep dying and don't try a different hero. They seem to have a counter to everything so the better you know the various hero skills the better you are prepared to adapt to the various strategies.

There is a lot going on under the skin of this game. I hope they keep adding a lot more heroes.

Yeah, VR and even 4k can be viewed as a gimmick to people. Truth be told, the X1/PS4 were held back by last Gen. So many people had 360s and PS3s(150 million+), why would devs make em exclusively for the next Gen? Only when the install base has grown. Hell, Sony just announced they've sold 40 million PS4s. With time, the games get better. Least the X1 isn't a barren wasteland for games compared to the Wii U *shudders*

Man, you guys weren't kidding. Finished the Harley Quinn DLC for Arkham Knight and that took 15-20 mins, even exploring all the environments. Don't get me wrong, I loved all 900 seconds of it. But damn I wanted more

It was gwg a year or so ago, that's the only reason I have it. I didn't think it was that good, but probably worth $4. It gets boring pretty quickly (about 10 minutes in my case). Playing it with someone else would definitely make it more enjoyable.

You're better off spending $11 more and getting Lovers in a Dangerous Space Time. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck, have more fun playing it with the wife and is pretty damn good solo as well.
