PSNOT 3.0 - Let's Talk About University of Kentucky, Baby!

I don't know if it's worth mentioning that the Nuclear Throne mega-patch is supposedly done and being submitted. No, probably not.

I like this gem.

Heh, the premise was two 30 something sisters throwing a last rager in the house they grew up in and my reaction was I think they're both closer to 50. Pass.

Got the Code Realize plat.

It was super girly.

Going to take Norn9 off the Gamefly Q for now because there's no way I can stand playing two of these games in a row.

I didn't realize the Vita version would be physical, too.

Sisters was neither the worst nor the best movie ever.  It was kind of a letdown because I expected something with Fey and Poehler to be super great, but there's still some good stuff in it.

Speaking of watching things, I blew through all of Mr Robot in the past 2 days.  Not sure how I'm going to stand waiting a week between episodes when season 2 starts.

Also speaking of watching things, im like halfway through daredevil season 2, first 3-4 episodes were great, after that its been boring as shit. Does it pick up in the 2nd half? I think ive got like 5-6 episodes left.

Fantastic.
Damn, this guy just nails it for me. The whole "It's video games, folks. It's not that deep." line is exactly how I would feel when I'd write a review for IA. Then the screenshots of reviews posted that said things like "Too much water." I always felt like when I was doing a review or writing critically about a game, I was looking for things to be wrong. I could just never come out and be saying every game is great and fun. I had to sit there and play a game like Bloodborne and force myself to try and find things that were wrong. Hm maybe the blood is too shiny.

I know Tyler and Gator probably don't have the same mentality, and I'm not implying that they do. And there's never been a conversation between the three of us with the tone of hey we should be more negative, make sure you're pointing out the bad stuff in these games! But thats why I stopped doing reviews completely. I really feel like the people who write for these huge sites like Kotaku, Destructoid, IGN, etc. just don't have fun with games. But then read a review from Tyler and you can tell he genuinely likes all these indie games he churns out and he has fun with them. He doesn't give off the up his own ass impression that the dude in the video talks about, which is cool. I just never felt like I could avoid that when I would review a game and they never really felt fun to me.

I like doing videos or writing articles about fun things in games. Even if I don't do it that often, it's still fun to me. Making dumb Destiny videos and just messing around in Sharefactory is a blast. But if I had to sit here and review all the time, I'd be sucked up into my own ass in no time. I think it's just an easy to fall in trap for a lot of people. When you write about anything from a critical point of view, it's extremely hard to not come off as an asshole. So more power to people like Tyler and Gator that manage to pull it off because it's definitely not something I can avoid.

Just my two cents.

Fantastic.
This video has a few good points, but is mostly bad. Gaming journalism is a joke, but not really for a lot of the reasons this dude mentions.

1) That SMITE comment by Gamespot is pretty stupid, yeah. It may be taken out of context but regardless it doesn't really make sense.

2) "Can't record PC Gameplay" is taken out of context. The guy is obviously referring to the Xbox and PS4 automatically recording your gameplay, and with a click of the button you can save it. You can't just do that on PC, you would have to have set up game capture software ahead of time. You can either go through this and then turn it on every time, or literally just press two buttons on your PS4. That is what that guy meant.

3) "Occasionally Lonely" and "Too much water" are stupid, but it's also stupid to judge a review by a three word description at the end of it. Perhaps the reviewer went into more detail in the review. Also, it's their opinion. It's also stupid to judge someone for their opinion on a game.

Not to mention some of the Pokemon games do have too much water. Sailing in Pokemon is one of the most boring things you can do in the game, there's only a few enemies, they pop up all the time, and it's terrible.

4) The Polygon Doom video is terrible.

5) The Overwatch Kotaku rankings deserve to be criticized, only because the statement at the top "Here is our definitive ranking of Overwatch heroes, ranked from worst to best." I don't see why they can't just have that say "Here is my personal ranking of every Overwatch character." Calling it definitive is definitely fucking stupid.

6) Where the fuck did that "college degree" shit come from at the end? People without college degrees have the worst persecution complex I've ever seen.

tl;dr he's just cherrypicking shit to rile up the "video game journalists are the worst" circlejerking crowd.

Now if he wants to talk about how publishers fly out reviewers to fancy locations and put them up in nice hotels and hold parties for them all part of a "preview event", then I'd actually listen to how gaming journalism is a joke.*

*I would absolutely accept a free trip and hotel room and party if I was ever invited to a preview event of some kind!

WWE 2K16 is $20 on Steam.

and I know I'm going to buy it even though it still looks pretty crappy.
Meh. I've never found any of the games to be particularly crappy. They have their negatives but they're usually still fun to play. 2K16 has a pretty huge roster and they expanded on some of the modes from the last one. I like that they limited the reversals on this one (though I'm sure you can still disable it) so you can actually land moves on other players or hard AI. 2K17 should have a pretty big roster, too. Guessing it'll be revealed soon.

Anyone play Sniper Elite for any extended periods? Wondering if I should pick it up to add to my basket of unopened games.

Great points. I highlighted the one sentence that I think is most important.

I don't talk about Paul a lot around here for obvious reasons, but I'm still real close friends with him. He got to go to PAX East and gets to go to E3 for free thanks to his job, and at first I was quite jealous of him. Then he showed me his itineraries for those 3-day events. He has 3-5 meetups each day, where he has to prepare, interview, and record conversations with developers/publishers, etc. Then he gets to edit those videos and write up articles for them. And if he wants serious hits, he has to get them up ASAP to try and beat the rush of other people also posting similar content. That means staying up late, video editing, and writing in his hotel room with shitty wifi. He'll probably be expected to churn out 8-10 articles for his E3 trip.

fuck. THAT.

That's a job. That's no fun at all. He's interested in some of the games, but some of the games he just has to cover cuz his site needs coverage. And some to maintain relations for the site.

It's easy to see how gaming journalists would quickly get jaded with video games living a life like that. They don't have the luxury to sink as many hours as they want into a game, replay it for trophies, and have fun with it. I don't think people understand that their job isn't to play games for a living, it's to create content about games. And that takes a long fucking time if you want it to even be remotely good. And remember, the only way to progress in the industry is to make great content, which means even more time spent on the content and less time spent on the game.

So to that guy putting together that video, and everyone who things gaming journalism sucks, I would love to see them do better. It's not an easy job. They don't just get paid to play games.

tl;dr never make your hobby your career.

Me and munky played it. It's alright. Pretty forgettable, honestly. I much preferred their Zombie Army games.
I wouldn't say I MUCH preferred ZAT, but it was probably more fun because it's more actiony. Tyler didn't have much patience for stealthing around. He's a busy guy with lots of video game articles to write, you know.

I think a lot of people just assume video games automatically equate to an easy job. To me it just sounds miserable. Even something like streaming is a ton of work. I mean Tyler, look at your reluctance to stream PS3 games because it's too much of a hassle. These full time streamers have recording equipment, multiple PCs, gaming equipment, audio and visual stuff, and more to manage constantly. fuck all that shit. Then most of them spend 4-6 hours a day streaming and are constantly posting youtube videos. It's a lot of work if you want to make a job out of it.
