Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I never played any mass effect games but I've been thinking about doing it soon. Are any of these DLC packs a waste, or are they all worth getting?
All the mass effect DLCs were good, except maybe pinnacle station for ME1. They added story elements and teammates. Though I'm not so sure how to advise someone who hasn't played any of the main games. If you like Bioware RPGs at all then there's a good chance you will like the series, so getting the DLCs for cheap is a good idea. If you don't want to buy them all I would at least recommend Lair of the Shadow Broker for ME2 and Citadel for ME3. I liked Kasumi's Memory for ME2 a lot too, mainly because I liked that character and you wouldn't get her in your game unless you had the DLC.

I loved the ME series. I consider it to be the spiritual successor to KOTOR. If Bioware made a proper KOTOR 3 I'd get it day one.

I'm currently camping in the Chick-fil-A parking lot for the grand opening. First 100 get free chicken sandwich meals for a year. 52 meals total. Free camping for me and my son. Oh we get free meals during the camp out too. Still a few spots left. Only about 40 people at the Griffin location. Still time if you live near there. Google "Chick-fil-A first 100" for the link to the eligible zip codes.

I love Chick-fil-A. There was a promo like this for Dairy Queen. 52 free meals . Took me and the kids. Was Glorious! As for this up coming sale I'm hoping the new Dead Island redo is on it. Plus assorted ancient 360 games ( that never go on sale ). Make it happen Major ! :)

So, who is this ekim dude and why is he suddenly an XBL sales guru? Is it because he correctly predicted Banner Saga 2 or has he been revealing stuff like this for longer and I've just missed it?

The guy is giving out tons of game names and prices on his Twitter account. Claims $30 Rise of Tomb Raider, Mirrors Edge $35.99 with gold, Metro Redux Bundle for $7.50. Says Dark Souls 3, Doom will be in the sale, but not Overwatch.

If you have any specific interests for the sale and a Twitter account, might as well ask him, I guess. Maybe he'll be right about all of them. He says he doesn't just want to post a list (probably because he wants to milk it for all its worth if he does have all the info).

Looking at the GWG, The Banner Saga 2 is a nice choice for most that have already beaten the first or don't want to touch it, but I have the first elsewhere, so this is a bad pick for me. Didn't know what Tumblestone was until I looked at the official site, which seems like it's more focused on MP with how they list the features. I'm hoping the supposed 40+ hour single-player campaign is good enough to be worthy of that claim.

Loved Rainbow Six Vegas 2 back in the day, though I don't think I'm interested in finding space for it on my hard drive in 2016. I might try out Tron Evolution due to the way Jeff Gerstmann had good things to say about it back when it came out.
40+ hour single campaign for a falling blocks game? Uh, no thanks. The number of non-RPGs I've ever played that were worthy of a 40+ hour single campaign are very, very short. Sounds like a Puzzle Quest 2 type of grind. Yikes.

When is said sale?
July 5, which is also the one-year anniversary of the Chilean miner rescue.

Ekim has been right 6+ months with the GWG lineup. He is some sort of insider that either works for Microsoft or knows someone who does that's leaking the info to him. He wasn't 100% sure on Warriors Orochi 3 but seemed heavily hinted, so maybe they were in negotiations to get it but it fell through? He has never been wrong but at the same time usually only hints a few days before hand. If he getting the fourth of July sales out 5+ days before it... that's pretty impressive. But to my knowledge he is spot on with info.

BTW he said Doom will be on sale but not as cheap as PS+ so probably $40 or $45.

I started to download The Crew, realized it didn't have an offline single player mode, and promptly removed it. Looking forward to the July GWG!
Shame, it's a decent arcade racer post patches.

He/She has gained a reputation on Reddit and Gaf for getting this stuff right. I think the theory is they're a DB Admin of some kind and are pulling this stuff from a relevant database.

Interesting. Thanks for the background info, David and benjamouth. I read most of the posts in this thread (unless I'm gone for a week and miss like 15 pages), so I'm surprised I don't remember him from earlier.

35$ for Mirror's Edge? I may aswell sell my disc copy and go digital

or probably not and sell it after I finish it and wait for EA access

Would've picked up Overwatch for a small discount, can't believe I'd have to spend atleast 50€ to pick it up here physical. I'd rather split it digitally.

"Discounts are on the Steam Summer Sale level for most of them"

Welp since Flash Deals and Community Deals are gone steam summer sales aren't that exciting anymore tbh...the sales got worse over the last few years and yet those prices are still better than the discounts that we were given out for years on the xbox systems (except some rare exceptions..) sooo I'm still looking forward to an xbox sale with "steam-like" discounts...

Damn, really wish that sale was going on right now. Have $90 to spend by the 30th and a great sale would really help me decide what to spend it on. Have been going through all of the Xbox One and PS4 digital titles and just can't decide on anything I don't already have. Maybe I'll just buy some of the preview program games like Subnautica, Ark, etc. Maybe even pre order the South Park game and get the free digitl Stick of Truth version. Just can't decide.

Has anyone tried Trials of the Blood Dragon?

I wish we could get the insane deals. Honestly outside of that Lord of the Fallen glitch there hasn't been something insanely marked down. Even Steam sales are so tame as you said without the flash deals... I still am 95% digital with X1, but would like to buy more games insanely marked down.

I am still holding out hope that we will start to see bundle sales for console games. Now that would be amazing. Bundles are so ridiculously cheap. A Humble Bundle for consoles would be my #1 wish in regards to sales/deals on consoles.

If you only buy one thing from the ME DLC sale, be aware that Lair of the Shadow Broker is absolutely not optional. Probably as good as the best stuff in the main game.

I just want Michonne Telltale series and Marvel Puzzle Quest for cheap. I got most of the big name games that I want already. Although, Mad Max for $15 or less would be cool.

I've had Stick of Truth since it was last on sale but just recently got into it and started playing. It's a really really fun game once you get the hang of it and any SP fan will enjoy the humor. If your cash is expiring you may as well just get it.

I want them to put This War of Mine back on sale, because stupid me forgot to purchase it Monday night before it went back up in price.

Also,

Marvel Puzzle Quest

A Boy and His Blob

Stranger of Sword City

Dungeon of the Endless

Unepic

Oddworld

Not a Hero

Party Hard

Steredenn

Mega Man Legacy

There are more I'd buy if the price was low enough, but those are my top wants.

so I beat Inside, took me a little over 4 hours, and I hear other people are beating it in 3-5 hours too. (depending on how much you get stuck). It's best to go in completely blind so you don't get any game mechanics spoiled, but I imagine that would be hard for some of you to drop $20 on a blind buy. If you liked limbo, you'll like this one too.

Overall I enjoyed it...the art style & sound design are really good. All the achievements are tied to secrets. I guess that's all I can really say, don't want to spoil anything.

I just can't fathom spending more than $5 on a sidescroller, no matter the length. The fact that there seems to be 20 of these games coming out every month, and always at least $10 or usually above, blows my mind. Improved graphics, artstyles, and "storytelling dynamics" doesn't change the fact that it's 2016 and we're using our $300 top-of-the-line gaming consoles to play SNES games.

PC gaming is worse though. Far worse. "PC MASTER RACE! I spent $900 on my graphics card and it's leet as eff, man. Check it out. The graphics on this 8-bit roguelike sidescroller are CRAZY." Money well spent.

I actually owned Stick of Truth on my 360, got about 95% of the way through and then a freak accident wound up putting a ding on the underside of the disc (always put discs back in thier cases when not playing that game) and it won't work now. So while I played the vast majority of it, I never did get to finish it. So the idea of owning it for my Xbox One is nice, but the idea of spending $59.99 to get it has me second guessing. And yeah, the money is expiring so if I don't spend it, its gone. Its so stupid and I deal with this same thing every month. Its from a trust that my father set up but the way its set up is just so stupid and annoying, but I really shouldn't complain as I am fortunate to have it in the first place.

Honestly, the cost of gaming is nothing compared to what it used to be. The prices were paying today are just ridiculously cheap compared to the prices of gaming 10, 20, even 30 years ago. The entire video game market is really the only market I know of that has basically been 100% immune from inflation. Each year our money is worth roughly 2-3% less, yet the price of gaming has basically remain unchanged for the last 30 years. I still own all of the original adventure games from Sierra and Lucasarts and most of them were $49.99-$59.99. I remember spending more than $59.99 on many of my N64 games. Gamers today just don't realize how cheap gaming has become once you factor in inflation. Not to mention, most of those PC side scrollers your talking about can be found in bundles not too long from launch for less than .50 apiece. PC gaming is just insanely cheap compared to what it used to be, especially if your patient and smart with your money. Games today are much bigger, far more complex, made by much larger teams of people and far more expensive to make, yet the cost has basically remained the same for the last 30+ years. They also go on sale MUCH faster and are discounted by much larger margins than games used to be.

Hell, I still remember spending $700 for my Amiga 500, lol. Thats roughly $1480 once you factor in inflation to 2016. Compare that to the price of computers today and then factor in how much more powerful todays computers are.

I dig what you're saying, although it seems like Inside is more of a puzzler than anything.

I wish I could get into platformers. I didn't even really like them in the NES days, which was the golden age of platformers, really. Aside from a Super Mario game here or there, they just don't do anything for me. If they did, I'd never run out of stuff to play, since as you said, it seems like every other indie game is a platformer of some sort. How come we're still stuck on moving left to right and jumping on stuff after 30 years, but the industry has somehow decided that turn-based RPGs are too antiquated to succeed?

That's a rhetorical question; no answer necessary.

Yeah, but if you really don't know what else to get, I think Stick of Truth and Fractured But Whole for $60 is a strong choice.

Ekim has been right 6+ months with the GWG lineup. He is some sort of insider that either works for Microsoft or knows someone who does that's leaking the info to him.
Also, ekim tells us in the early AM - hours before Major Nelson - if a game is going to be made Backward Compatible later in the day.

And because 9am Pacific time is usually the latest a BC game will be made available that day, I've gotten in the habit of checking the GAF BC thread first thing after waking up to see if ekim has posting something stating we're going to have new BC releases that day.

Its a routine for me now: ekim posts something - great, a new game! ekim does not post something - no new BC game today.

So the download for the free trial is going to be even bigger? Even more reason to avoid it.
Why are you always so bitter about everything? If you don't like Halo, Microsoft, or whatever the fuck it is then fine. Just don't come in here and shit on our pancakes. The new Halo is decent. I probably won't play it any time soon, but I appreciate that Microsoft is putting up full game trials for its major games. There is literally no downside to free games.

Yeah, it will be my last minute purchase if I can't think of anything better. I did just buy Subnautica and The Solus project as both look interesting and seem to have decent feedback thus far. Those are my first preview purchases thus far. So I shaved off $35. I have just enough left for that South Park pre order and more and more its looking like that is what I will do. I can't see the remastered Stick of Truth being too different from the 360 version, given its graphical style, but it will still be nice to have it on my Xbox One anyways. And best of all I will finally get to finish the game.

Yeah, I gotta agree. When you have people complaining about actual free content....well, thats pretty lame no matter how one looks at it. Its not like you can't delete something once its downloaded.

Ori and other Metroidvania style platformers are fun and can incorporate innovative gameplay, but the vast majority are just SMB clones. Ori also had pretty nice graphics. I'm sure they could have been done on the 360, but it's far better than SNES sprites.

I'm with you on the lamentations for turn based rpgs. Sometimes I just want to get really, really stoned and still be able to succeed at a game by taking 30 minute turns. Tactical rpgs and visual novels are all you see for turn based these days tho, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna sit through loading screens for text bubbles with a portrait next to it. Seriously, who the hell is buying these terrible jrpgs?

Also, I don't have a data cap to worry about but I'm still not going to even put in the effort to queue the download for Halo 5. I will mark it is purchased on the off chance it glitches and gives it to me permanently, but that is only as an offering to the backlog god.

They're cheap(er), easy(ier), and quick(er) to make compared to 3D platformers or games that require exploration besides left and right. Especially the roguelike games. There have been some Indie Gala bundles with some really cheap, ugly indie games in 3D, but I give them credit for trying at least. I'm willing to give any given 3D indie game a shot over any given sidescroller on principle alone.

I'm about to hit 30 years old, and I was a heavy gamer through the sidescrolling era. I know these games are supposed to make me feel nostalgic or something, but I was burnt out on sidescrollers back in their prime anyway (back before I even knew the term "sidescroller", I just felt every game was a reskin of the last) and was about done with gaming until Mario 64 came out and rejuvenated my interest. The sense of exploration added a whole new level of enjoyment to video games. And with advancement in technology, I can't possibly imagine why we'd want to go back now.

Because an 80+ GB trial taking me most of the week to download while it's free to try means I should do it anyway at the expense of other stuff I actually own? Why would that make any sense? I'm not even touching your fanboy nonsense because it has nothing to do with my post.

I'm hoping you're complaining about the others here that have the same concerns about their bandwidth issues.

Sorry, to stay on topic:

If I had a Chick Fil A opening near me, I might seriously take the day and stand in line to get free food.  My belly is full of toasted PBJ and Braum's milk, but I can't help drool a little thinking about those nuggets.

AAAAAAnd I just remembered that we are about to get a new CFA.

Nope, I think that the size is a totally rational complaint. However, what you said is that the size was "even more reason to avoid it." If your post was just complaining about the size, I would agree with you, as it is way too large for my internet. I would never say that it was stupid for Microsoft to offer it for free for people who have a better speeds than I do. The way your post came across was very antagonistic for no reason. If your main complaint was simply the size, then I can totally understand the frustration, but that is certainly not how it came across.

Maybe I should've linked the start of the debate about the size of Halo 5 being so big that those with internet bandwidth should avoid it, as the already huge filesize would be even bigger with a new update that makes it even more of a reason to avoid the free trial.

It's only antagonistic if you work for an ISP or are so sensitive that you can't handle anybody in here not being 100% enthusiastic about all things Microsoft. You should maybe rethink your approach to reading this thread if you feel that threatened by somebody who doesn't want to download an 80+ GB game and have to resort to calling them fanboys because their internet keeps them from being able to download everything that's offered.

If you only buy one thing from the ME DLC sale, be aware that Lair of the Shadow Broker is absolutely not optional. Probably as good as the best stuff in the main game.
I hate Liara so much that I have absolutely no interest in this DLC. Never bought it and played through the series multiple times.

The BioShock Collection has been rated in another region (this time in Taiwan). And all 3 will be included based on the boxart (Columbia up top, Rapture down below.) The site that leaked this originally, also leaked the Dead Island Collection and that ended up being real, too.

This is still a thing that has not been announced. But the BioShock Collection was listed on the 2K website earlier today (since been removed). I am sure it will be announced soon...

EDIT: The cover art image is actually hosted on their website. Just announce it already!

Your loss. I mean, you are in combat... (very mild spoiler about the setting)
on the outside surface of a huge spaceship... in orbit... in the middle of a giant fricking lightning storm

It doesn't get much better than this. :)
