Dammit. Free weekend worked on me. I had never played Overwatch previously, but after playing on Friday/Saturday I bought it on Sunday. 40 bucks at Best Buy isn't bad.

Hadn't really planned on buying anything until end of October, but...he we are. I may just skip TF2 now since I enjoyed Overwatch a lot more than the TF2 test.

I bet it has something to do with pricing errors, like when Fallout 4 was incorrectly listed as free. Services like this notify people quickly and people cash in before it gets fixed. Even though the licenses to FO4 were revoked, the $10 credit they issued to thousands of us definitely cost MS money.

 
So I am 2 hours into recore, load times are about a minute but are few and far between, it's not like you spend all the game loading. Only time I died I instantly respawned. I haven't had any frame rate issues yet.

The game play is ok. I thought might no 9 was fine too tho, so don't put a lot of weight in that.
 
I imagine Store Parser was using a decent amount of server load constantly scanning and checking for changes, vs someone like Bloomy running a script once a week. It's not like it helps that it's mostly used to pounce on price mistakes.

I wonder if that could play a role in DDoS attacks, too? Or is that a totally separate / unrelated body of servers when those deplorable-assholes-with-no lives decide to ruin holidays so people can't play online?

And yeah, the Fallout payout was likely a legal requirement for what was technically a valid sale from the consumer end. If it wasn't for Store Parser or services like it, it never would have spread the way it did. Then again, this IS the internet, and someone still could have noticed and blown it up on Kotaku et al.

 
I thought store parser was just for the 360 sales, is it both consoles? I just assumed Bloomy did some sort of black magic to get us the X1 deals

Only if I get banned in the hour and change. Though Major / his interns have been doing a better job at getting the sales posted a few hours after they've gone live, though there are some edits throughout the following day since some things are occasionally missed.

That really sucks for StoreParser. There is a StoreParser gamertag, curious if that's what they were using. If it is, the tag doesn't show any signs of being banned, unless that's no longer publicly shown. Could also just be blocking requests to the web store from StoreParser's domain.

I imagine they should be able to get things going again with a couple tweaks. With the switch to the new store site, discounts are now shown if you aren't logged in, similar to the 360 web marketplace. So they don't need to use their account, and can use a proxy (or multiple ones) to hide the source of their requests. That might move the blocking from the technical to the legal realm, but that's another matter.

I'll use my regular script tonight (I just did a run to get a baseline for later, had to make a couple minor tweaks for some things), but will try to redo my parser by next week so my account isn't involved in the communications. Using a proxy may be another matter, but it looks like Curl supports it.

Imo, if you liked Black Flag then you will enjoy Rogue. The ship sailing and battling is way better in Rogue than in Black Flag though, if that matters. I enjoyed it a lot but I'm also a pretty big fan of the series in general so I may be a bit biased.

Just noticed my Amazon pre-order of Pac-Man Championship Edition 2 says it won't be available until Thursday the 15th. But the release date is the 13th from everywhere else I've seen. Was really hoping to play it at midnight tonight (or earlier).
 
I'm hoping to pick up ReCore through Expertzone for around $20, but to save some money instead of listening to reviews. Rise of Iron and Gears 4 are probably most of my gaming budget for the next month already. But really, I don't recommend relying on reviews very heavily unless they're unanimous like No Man's Sky was, or if you REALLY know the reviewer's tastes and how they line up with your own. Plenty of great games have gotten trashed in reviews because they weren't the cup of tea of the reviewer.

ReCore doesn't even seem like it's getting trashed very hard, a lot of the uproar I saw earlier was from the Destructoid 4/10, where the reviewer clearly didn't like the idea of gathering any collectibles. The only real negative I see is the loading times, which will hopefully be patched out before too long. It's hard to say, I get the impression that Armature is behind the bulk of development here, and this is their first big game. Inafune and Comcept sound like they only did things on the art side of development.

3 hours in now, and the gathering part is dumb. It's no collectibles it's more like fetch quests. A lot of doors need these flying robot batteries to open, so the game is just like fine 6 batteries in the area and bring then back. Luckily I haven't had a hard time finding them, but I can imagine if you miss one and have to constantly look for it that it could be frustrating.

Storeparser could do both 360 and X1. XBLDB was the one that could only do 360 sales.

And with SP being blocked, I'll no longer be able to steal Bloomy's job. So with that, I guess I'll work on the final third of the trifecta. How are all the games on sale and should I buy the DLC for them? #99PostsToGo
