Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

I guess maybe I'm alone in loving the game so far. Granted I just play games to enjoy them, not go out of my way to try and find broken animations or glitches. I guess I'm playing it wrong

Well then that's a boooo from me on both parts. No memberships and 'fuck this shit!' on the home button.
I'm in full agreement. While I understand innovation is important, why this change? Is this the "creator" update? Maybe I'm just too old and not the intended target audience as I don't steam or share or create anything.

How do I get back to home quickly now?

Completely unrelated question: I was able to get digital ME:A as part of the target b2g1 sale last week. However, the card is through a third party company and I have to wait until launch day to get an email with a code (no preloading).
If I get EA access, and download the trial, would my game be fully ready when I get the code email and not require another download? Anyone know?

Based on experience with past trial games (PVZ GW2) - yes, it should work that way.

Appears that I finally got an update with my dashboard in the preview program so two questions:

1) Not sure if with the update whether I have access to Game Pass. Don't see it but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?
2) Is there any way to turn the Xbox button back to going to the home page rather than bringing out the fly out guide? It's annoying as s
As part of the alpha I've had this set up for a while. For 1. pin everything you want to play. That way you wont have to go to the membership page Bong mentioned. as for 2. middle button then 'A' 'A' is the fastest way to the home screen. But since they have added this feature I never open the home menu on accident when I'm trying to record a game clip. I've fucked up many a clip using the old snap system. You can also navigate just about anywhere with the new snap menu. If only it didn't prevent me from snapping twitch to stream and forces me to use Beam. Beam is a p.o.s.

I'm kinda torn on Mass Effect Andromeda. I feel like it needed more time in the oven and that's kinda scary since It's been five years since the third game. The dialogue is pretty meh, the facial animations are at times cringe worthy and I haven't felt like caring for any of the new characters introduced (yet).
The new alien enemies are as generic as can be. The collectors felt threatening, these guys scream el generico.

The good news is the combat is even more refined and feels pretty crisp even compared to the third game. The MP seemed like for the most part a 1:1 replica of the third game's MP: Level up, clear out the waves, get the loot. But again I only played one match.
Generic is always used by people that don't know what generic is. One, they're a fucking alien species so no they're not generic. Generic would be dude's in combat gear with helmets on with no faces, insert fps game.

The dialogue is meh? There are 1200 NPCs that have talking dialogues in this game. "When you look at the dialogue options, we're basically [at] the equivalent of Mass Effect 2 and 3 put together." To me that's an enormous amount of not meh. The good news is the world feels even more alive, with all the chatter, visuals and story this feels like a very in-depth RPG.

I am loving it, but the fact is I am totally in the tank for Mass Effect at this point. Dyed in the wool fanboy. :) So my opinion probably doesn't mean anything to anyone's who's not a die hard superfan. It's too bad the general reaction to the game isn't better, but oh well, at this point Imma just ignore it and keep living in Mass Effect heaven.

So I'm strongly considering taking 6 months or so to wipe out the important (mostly current gen) backlog, with the intention of buying close to nothing, only really good deals or dirt cheap stuff, and living off of GWG and my owned games. I'm grabbing Mass Effect, but other than Sonic Mania and the Shovel Knight DLCs I already own there isn't much on my radar for day one purchases the rest of the year. I figure I can save my normal gaming budget up and either get a Scorpio if it ends up worth it, or a PS4/Switch at the end of the year.

Looking at the rest of the year I'm thinking I want to play Agents of Mayhem, Prey, Injustice, Tekken 7, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, and Destiny 2. Maybe State of Decay 2, Phantom Dust, and Sea of Thieves. Out of those, MvC is the only thing I for sure want day one, Destiny could really be either day one or hard pass depending on what it actually is. RDR2 as would probably be day one as well, but I think that's getting a delay. I figure E3 could fuck up my plans too if some awesome stuff is announced for this year, but I'm really not getting that impression from Phil Spencer's comments lately. Maybe some stuff for a year or two away. The only thing we know of that I can see being this year is Wolfenstein.

Just off the top of my head I've got between 20 and 30 Xbox One games I'd want to finish, a couple 360, and another 5 or 6 Wii U titles. Though this also includes at least 3 long RPGs; Lost Odyssey, Witcher 3, and Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Has anybody here done a backlog break like this? Thoughts or advice? I know we've had one regular doing it lately, but it looks he was clearing out the entire backlog, trash and all.

^ I'd still buy good deals lol

I get playing what you've bought but i don't see any reason to stop buying unless not buying becomes fun for you.

I've been buying since the 80s and have slowly shifted from heavy to barely casual gamer for me a lot of the fun is the collecting even if I never get around to playing some

especially 360/ps3 games since we don't know what the future will bring for those as far as deals and such

It's quite generic compared to the past Mass Effect games, yes.

Falllout 4 had massive amounts of dialogue and that didn't save that game either.

The visuals and combat are both good. That is the only good news from my brief time with it.

I did 100% Mass Effect 2 achievements and beat the game multiple times. Mass Effect Andromeda is a good game but not on par with past Mass Effects. The reviews will show that come Monday. They will be very mixed.

Yeah, I just want to keep from getting so buried in the future. I've got probably a hundred or more 360 games that I don't know will ever be beaten. It just feels like burnt money to a degree. I usually buy one or two new $60 ($48) games a month, when I still have dozens of games I can already play. Slowing that down I can easily afford another console and open up a whole new backlog shitstorm.

Now you're moving your goal posts on being generic.

WTF you haven't played the full game, how can you say that already!? Boy that's calling the kettle black.

I loved Fallout 4, it's a great game. There's a ton to do, the story is eh but overall you're doing whatever you want so you make your own stories. I have so many fond memories just exploring through the Commonwealth and the side missions, there's tons of them where they are in-fact the story imo. Romancing Piper and then waking up with half naked Preston standing next to our bed. Lol, what!? I also enjoyed building a settlement, crafting and upgrading my gear and going through and scavenging in an wasteland.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I did play the full game, look at my achievements. I said brief time with it because It's EA access. The full game is not out till Tuesday and I stated I was playing on EA access. My ten hours are about to be up.

Just accept that people have different opinions. I was giving my thoughts from the EA access trial, if you feel different and that the game doesn't deserve such criticism then provide to me why from your experience with the game. What is YOUR opinion on the game and WHY.

Anyways I'm done. Your avatar has ANDROMEDA in it. I might be arguing with a brick wall I guess.

I'm doing this right now. Finally started up The Division (not bad at all so far), and I plan on starting and completing 100% Destiny, The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Dying Light, Mad Max, and other stuff before the year is over. It gets hard to dig into the backlog when shit like Mass Effect, Bulletstorm, and Injustice 2 drop a month apart, though.

I actually plan on holding off on starting Fallout 4 until Scorpio drops, since it's supposed to get a nice patch.

I'm no scientist, but I'm pretty sure differing opinions are what makes the world go 'round. It is okay to like a game that somebody else doesn't - and vice versa.

Nobody is going to come into your home and take your games away from you.

Man, 100%ing Destiny is just as time consuming as Division. Beating a Raid without ANYONE dying is going to be hard unless you and your group are dedicated. That vast majority of people are going to want to do the Hard Mode, Challenge Mode version with max light that are coming next month, which makes this even harder. Out of your list, I think Bulletstorm is the only one with a relatively short completion time. I won't be touching that unless it's dirt cheap though, since I played it last gen.

Good luck with only 9 months, I guess it depends how much time you have to play on average.

Trust me I have it all planned out. I know Destiny is not a short completion, nor is Witcher 3. But that's why I'm committed to not buying too many big name releases this year unless I absolutely must play them on day one. Even with the Division, I still haven't hit level 30 nor have I touched any of the DLC packs yet. I'm looking at like 200-300 hours for completion right there. Hopefully I'll have it done by early May.

Well your avatar is of a My Little Pony so yeah what should I think about that. I was referring to this. I get it you didn't enjoy the game as much as I did but dafuq with you dismissing a game you haven't played all the way through (and casting a bad light onto the game for others). Let's give the game a chance, it hasn't officially launched yet. (The past Mass Effect games are out, Andromeda isn't out yet and therefore you're talking out of your ass because you didn't play the full game.) Nobody has played the full game yet, we've all just played a portion of the game.

That said there's so much to this game. The dialogue decisions have been changed and tweaked to be more organic, ala Dragon Age: Inquisition. The exploration feels more organic than in the past and to me I love how it presents it to you as well. The Nomad makes my Mako boner happy and the jumpjets allow for some cool unrestricted exploration flow - ever get stuck in a spot in a big open-world, wished you had a jumpjet on your back then huh. The combat feels tight and seeing some classic weaponry has also given me a grin. I'm shooting bad guys in the face with the Carnifax, which I allocated resources for and researched, with an upgraded mag and scope. Boom headshot or enough to hit them to stagger them to line up for the next headshot. Each character I've interacted with seems to be more than just cardboard cutout characters in say something like Borderlands. I actually do want to listen to why they wanted to become an Andromeda recruit. There's a ton of R&D you can do, having to go out and gather resources makes sense now and the vastness of what we're in for is just astonishing. People wanted No Man's Sky and then were disappointed when all the planets they could go to were all boring procedurally generated worlds. Well, I'm gonna say Mass Effect Andromeda feels like a little bit of No Man's Sky (with hand crafted worlds/quality over quantity, a bit of Dragon Age: Inquisition and a lot of Mass Effect 3. I think a few silly animations and facial gestures are a bit not really a bother when you look at the grand scheme of things. There, I've backed up my thoughts. I don't know if this game will be as great as past Mass Effect games but you'll have to wait until people experience the WHOLE thing.

I'm sure someone has already asked this, so i'm sorry for being lazy.  Will the EA Access "trial" saved game work with my disc version when I get my disc or will I need to start a brand new game and save file for the disc version of the game?

Yes, your progress gets carried over when you get the full game (digital or physical - there is no distinction with XBox, we're not backward like Playstation)

:p

While cleaning out my garage I found an unopened padded envelope from Buy.com. Inside was a 12 months Xbox Live Gold card. I guess I forgot all about it. :)

Says the guy who collects games and doesn't play them lol. Do you see the irony in that statement.

Ok everyone calm down now. We're a "family" don't turn this into the GameStop thread with same 2 assholes posting stupid shit all day. (Not you Blackbeard) lol

Anyway. I got to a point in the MEA story in which I'll gladly stop and resume on Monday night once the full game unlocks.

Need to get back to Gears 4 and do my first re-up after abandoning the game for three days. The first Locust legacy characters drop today.

I think everyone is entitled to like a game or not for whatever reason they choose but some of the hate towards ME:A has nothing to do with the actual game.  There is a group of people who believe Bioware has become a shell of itself and spew nothing but SJW propaganda now.  Those people should just be ignored honestly.  The group right now that ticks me off are those claiming that Bioware and EA are ripping people off by charging $60 for a game with some wonky animations.  Even if this game is mediocre it provides way more content than a lot of games.  Saying it is a ripoff and buying it at full price is making games worse is just ridiculous hyperbole (not that people on this site are saying that).

In Ring 3 and I haven't seen an update since mid-Decemeber 2016 ...

I surely can't be the only one who got a Halo 4 vibe when you get to Habitat 7. I mean, for all intends and purposes, Ryder's arrival on the planet's surface is practically the same as when Master Chief gets to Requiem and starts shooting everything that moves. Hell, just replace the Kett with the Covenant Remnants and voila. And to me, that's a good thing as I loved Halo 4's campaign.
Talk about the fucken specifics in the CAG Andromeda thread. Or use some goddamn spoiler tags.

I need to do this since my income isn't what it was this time last year. But I keep picking up clearance and sale games when I see them in stores and on the various digital marketplaces. At this point, I could stop buying games altogether and be good for the next 20 years. I suppose the only way I could stick to a backlog cleanse is to not frequent CAG anymore, but I get more excitement out of buying games and posting about them than actually playing them. I also tend to play the same games over and over which isn't helping. I still play Spelunky at least once a day when I have dozens of 50 hour games that could be getting my attention. SMH...

^What you described is a common sickness we all suffer from. Don't let that keep you away from your passion - of hoarding games.

All this talk about clearing backlog is nonsense, no ones clearing anything.

Haha -- yeah I stopped reading as soon as I saw the word Halo in that first sentence. I'm like -- nope. Looks like a spoiler is coming up. I might as well ignore the internet til Tuesday...

"If you didn't 100% the game, you couldn't possibly have had an experience worth sharing. Maybe there's a hidden easter egg that turns the enemies into Marvin the Martians, therefore the previous 80 hrs of gameplay can't be used to base judgement on! *insert more hyperbole here*"

The enemy aliens I've seen so far are pretty weak designs compared to previous entries.

Honestly I have a problem. I order things and forget all about them. It must have been on sale and I didn't need it at the time. Trying to get better about not buying stuff, just because it's on sale. I must have tossed it aside and it ended up in the garage. I think many us have bought games just because they were cheap and never played them. It's a struggle. #FirstWorldProblems :p

that's good though

I ate too many preservatives or drank too much diet soda or something as a kid I have no patience and I am tunnel visioned on everything I order

I served my time back in the 6-8 week shipping days and I am never going back

While trying to find any "decent/good" deals to use my BING points on, I noticed this morning that BING will be removing the rewards for $5 and $25 off of Microsoft online store effective March 31.

I like Mass Effect.
This is what's holding my hope tbh. I was disappointed in Inquisition, but I was never a huge dragon age fan in the first place. I've been really anxious about Andromeda because I hate this whole "let's see how huge we can make everything!" trend. In my experience, having a bigger open world doesn't mean more content: it means the same content spread across a wider area so I have to walk ten friggin minutes to find anything. I know I'm in the tiny minority, but Inquisition was painful with how much just wandering in open space there was. Hopefully Mass Effect will be treated better.

This happened to me. I bought two 12 Xbox Live Gold cards packaged with the Call of Duty shirts from BB. I boxed them with some games when I moved and found them a year later when I was looking through boxes. Which reminds me, I still have them boxed away. lol

what's a modern skating game you guys would recommend?

the last time I spent real time on one was thps4 on ps2 LOVED playing that one

I have skate 3 and have tinkered with it but realistic sport type games are kinda ehh for me

anything fun? or should I just stick with skate 3 and buy the dlc that unlocks everything that is currently on sale so I don't have to grind to unlock shit
