Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

The circle of Zelda 2:

Oh hey this is different

Wow I suck at this

This downward thrust is really awesome!

Well screw that boss and screw this game, that was a good run

Repeat every time you think "hey I still haven't beaten Zelda 2..."
Will the circle be unbroken, by and by, by and by ...

One day you'll beat it. And then one day you'll beat it without using the glitch on the final boss.

Willow-Famicom.jpg

all this Zelda talk is making me wanna play this superior game

That game does not get enough love, the graphics were great, you had those cute animal powers, and it got really hard in the later levels.
Maybe as a game but nah not good as a Zelda title and the Zelda ecosystem is some of the highest critically and received by gamers games out there.

I guess it's technically the 20th, APEX HQ will be launching, the companion app for Mass Effect Andromeda. Pop in and see what your strike team is up to, look at stats and whatnot. Bioware is making a smart decision here making the multiplayer and singleplayer into a cohesive game. Games that just tackle on multiplayer to have multiplayer miss the overall picture. That said I think games are advancing away from that as you see Ubisoft pushing that blend pretty hard lately.

Oh yeah most def Shrike, Tuchanka was one of the best.

Weird said it was good till 4/4. Which oddly enough is the last time I redeemed a shift code.

Sorry about that.

Here is the tweet. Wonder why it isn't working.

https://twitter.com/Borderlands/status/842858475931746304?s=09

ETA: Reading further down the tweets on Xbox you might have to end the game and restart console. Once I did that it redeemed fine.
Worked for me. Thanks! Like you said earlier though it seems hit or miss on what you get with the gold keys.

TBH, the troll game looks like it could be worth silly fun just for the hell of it --- when it hits $10 or less though, not for $50.

So don't be ashamed .Beowulf. :)

Might be like Attack on Titan but with not so disturbingly naked giants!
Gamefly $1 month ...

Someone on gamefaqs is claiming the Season Pass for Rise of the Tomb Raider on Xbox 360 is free if you purchase it in game. I don't have the game so I can't check, maybe it'll benefit someone here.

So I got Mass Effect during the Visa Checkout thing. The other parts of the order were already done. Wondering if I cancel or return just MEA if the charges for the others would be retroactively upped? That would be a deciding factor for me.

I'm personally not concerned about the ME reviews. I've played the first hour or two and I like it so far, so I'm sure I'll enjoy the full game, especially if its supposed to get better as it goes.

Looking at the reviews, most of the negative stuff has to do with people finding the characters dull, saying the game didn't take enough chances, or noting technical issues. I don't think any of that will be a huge deal for me, judging from what I've played. Bugs? I'm a Bethesda fan, so whatever. Lol.

Quick informal poll: Of those considering canceling preorders, etc., how many of you played the game via EA Access? Did anyone who actually played the game decide through their own experiences that they aren't interested anymore? Seems like most of the people who played it here had good things to say, myself included.

I only played a bit of the multiplayer section. It was...okay. I thought that the controls were a bit rough and hard to get used to, though someone said they were the same as the ME2 and 3 controls which surprised me.

Also, the characters being dull is a huge deal for me. The characters are mostly what makes Mass Effect...Mass Effect in my eyes. I thought the characters from 2 were not as good as the other games (I know I'm probably the only one) so 2 suffered in my eyes.

Having the areas be, for lack of a better term, too open world with little to see also damages the game. I don't care about open world. I don't want to spend ten minutes looking for another raider camp. But again, I know that's just me. Mass Effect has been one of my favorite series of all times, so I imagine I'm going to get it, but I just am now probably looking at a price drop rather than release date.

I agree that ME (as with all Bioware RPGs) is all about the characters...I should say that from the bit I've played, I don't personally think I'll find them boring.

Some of these Mass Effect reviews are weird to read. For example, Polygon has issues with the loadout system not allowing you to change weapons during the mission, although the way they describe the problem makes it sound exactly like what Mass Effect 3 did.

I think cancelling pre-orders based on reviews is a pretty big knee-jerk reaction though.

I played about 90 minutes of story. I liked what I saw so far. A lot of the basic changes feel like improvements, the world design already outclassed almost everything in the original games, and a lot of the issues I had with 3 that I felt came from rushing are fixed, like not being able to holster your weapons while exploring.

Exploration on the planets is a lot better than it's ever been, I think being able to jump around and see more helps it, and the detail on the first planet is closer to Dragon Age Inquisition than the often barren worlds of ME1 or hallway exploration of 2 and 3.

A lot of the complaints people had during the trial are things you can't judge well til farther in the game. The stuff I've liked so far could also fall apart later in the game though, so a full judgement either way isn't really possible. Most people trying it that enjoyed the past games will like it enough to get it unless they have sworn off Bioware entirely, and many people who haven't played the past games and are trying it for the first time might not see the appeal.

The general complaints are there, at best passable animation most of the time, with downright bad animations occasionally. The writing so far is OK, nothing stand out yet. Character creator is bad, most of the default faces for male and female are not particularly good looking, and you are required to choose one as a base to work with.

Do whatever floats your dicks, but canceling a game because of a 75-77 on Metacritic is bizarre.

Destiny has a 75. Did you guys cancel your preorders for that?

GR: Wildlands has a 77. Same question.

Quantum Break has a 77. Same question.

AC: Syndicate has a 78. Canceled?

tl;dr Seems like some of you guys rely on Metacritic way too much.

IDK, There is no lack of games to play. If reviews and game play video make some people second guess a $60-$100+ pre-order it seems like a good thing no? Very little advantage to pre ordering games. Maybe some in game skins or packs or whatever. I hardly pre order games anymore. I can walk into any store the day of or week of and pick up a new release. And no chance of a game being sold out digitally.

I think I pre ordered one game last year. Gears of War 4. And honestly I would have been fine waiting a month or two to get it much cheaper.

QB I thought was lots of hype. I did pre order that (forgot). Played and traded it. Would have been better off waiting a month or two and picking it up for less then $60 ($48 at Amazon).

I pre ordered Destiny and loved the game. Almost all I played for like a year. I traded the disc in week one and bought the $100 version digitally.

After how bad Unity was at release I waited a long while till picking up Syndicate. Great game. If it wasn't for the few tailing missions and the unlikely event of me getting 100% sync on all missions I would rebuy it for XBox One (played it on PS4). Still might if it gets cheap enough digitally. Don't feel like I missed much waiting and not having it day one.

I used to be all about day one. But CAG changed me. I still pick up a few games day one (or week one) but see little to no advantage of pre-ordering games. Most of what they give as perks is crap I don't care about. Maybe for MP games or games you are super hyped to play (gears 4 for me). Otherwise it will be available a week or month or 6 from now and probably cheaper.

^ I am just bringing up those since they are good games that have similar scores to Andromeda.

I have not played Andromeda, won't until tomorrow. Maybe it is a pile of garbage. But I just think canceling your order because of a 75 is odd since that is not a bad score.

I loved Medal of Honor: Warfighter and that has a 55. DON'T @ ME.

I loved Warfighter enough to play through it twice! I can't remember much of the multiplayer but the single player is head and shoulders above any other at the time.

the gameplay in andromeda seems fine, I've never played mass effect so maybe long time fans will dislike it more but It seems like a perfectly average triple A game release for 2017. on a side note Remedy has not made any announcements since quantum break, is it fair to start dreaming about alan wake 2?

Metacritic is useless unless a game is absolute trash and has like a 50 or below. You guys should find a reviewer whose opinions on games at least somewhat line up with your own. It's much more useful than listening to a vague group average like this. Also, keep in mind that Metacritic gives different weights to different outlets based on their own unknown preferences, so those scores affect the average more. Source: Aggregate sites are even worse when a game polarizes opinions like Andromeda seems to be doing.

It might be worth thinking of some of your favorite games and going back to see what they scored. One of my favorites from last gen was Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, that as a 77 on Metacritic. Just because a game isn't loved by critics, it doesn't mean that you might not find something to like it in.

All I'm saying is to give games a chance and try them at some point. I get cancelling pre-orders, but don't swear the game off forever solely because of a score.

I always use Ryse and Deadpool as examples of how Metacritic scores can eat my ass. I loved those games and I don't regret spending the money I did on them.
I've dropped about 30 hours into Ryse this year with 1.5 playthroughs, and tons of multiplayer. Im level 83 and almost to level 5 gear.

Wonder if I will enjoy mass effect?!

I mean, I'm not sure if this is directed at me, but I didn't even have the game preordered to cancel. I think it's also a bit disingenuous to say that people cancelling are relying on Metacritic. I think Metacritic is often simply a symptom. Are there people out there that do rely on that? Sure. I think that scores and numbers in general though are simply just a waste of time mostly: not every game can be measured by the same metrics. I'm loving Wildlands, but I expect Mass Effect to be a better overall experience simply because of the kind of game it is. A game focused on building relationships and saving the galaxy is much different than sneaking around simply sniping stuff. I read three or four reviews this morning just to get a feel of the different opinions of the game, which I think is how it should be done, and unfortunately I think that a lot of the points brought up are valid. Bugs, flat characters, a bland story, are all legitimate concerns for a lot of people. Having problems with characters is a much bigger deal in a character driven game than "man the soldiers' banter in this game is asinine I wish there was a way to turn it off."

Sure people give knee jerk reactions, but it's okay to have different opinions, and if reviews reveal things about a game that people aren't excited about then that's okay. I was on the fence about the game anyway and the body of the reviews confirmed a lot of my concerns. Who knows, I may still pick it up before the Prime discount gives out to play multiplayer, but I also may just wait because I'm finally getting into The Witcher 2-3 and Wildlands. I'm not hurting for entertainment.

I played the EA Access trial for ME:Andromeda and for the most part enjoyed my time with it.  The differences from the previous trilogy are a bit jarring though, and I can see how people might be turned off initially.  I've had this game pre-ordered for well over a year, and plan on getting tons of enjoyment from the single player campaign, so I'm definitely approaching it as a fan.  Tried the multiplayer as well, and will go back for more.

Want to be very cognizant of spoilers here, so I'll just spoiler the next paragraph, but I think these pro and con observations are very generic about the game, and don't give anything away for those that are curious:

Pluses:
+ I like how you're less class restricted and can mix and match powers and abilities.
+ I think the general story arc has a lot of potential.  I mean, they had to find something interesting after ME1-3 and I think they've done a good job here

Minuses:
- I don't like the interface as much; I'm constantly having to refer to the overhead map, the fonts seem small, and even my point of view makes combat seem "small" compared to the earlier games.
- speaking of combat, ME1-3 were very much combat mission to combat mission, whereas here I would say it's far more 'open world' with lots of wandering around, and going from fetch quest 1 to fetch quest 2.  Of course, this is early access experience only...
- a hand scanner? ugh, that thing is going to be a PITA.

Was Warfighter the one that ended with a Linkin Park song? Because if so, fuck yeah! I loved that game too.

And come at me bros! I just played some Andromeda without playing ME2 or ME3.

Just the multiplayer though. I'm not THAT crazy.

I mean, I'm not sure if this is directed at me, but I didn't even have the game preordered to cancel....

I wasn't directing anything at you. I will @ you if that is the case. I was speaking in general. My point is that 75 is not a bad score. Again, do whatever floats your boat/dick. Cancel it, buy it, whatever.

And I agree w/ you about the opinion comment. See below for what I said a few days ago.

I'm no scientist, but I'm pretty sure differing opinions are what makes the world go 'round. It is okay to like a game that somebody else doesn't - and vice versa.

Nobody is going to come into your home and take your games away from you.

Bioware is only human after all.

Bioware is only human after all.

Don't put the blame on them.

New giveaway rule: Shadow Warrior has to go on sale this week. If it does I will give $10 xbox credit away to a random poster in this thread

I had little interest in the game and the trial put me off of it even more. People can try to dismiss the animations, awkward voice acting and writing all they want, but considering a huge chunk of this kind of RPG revolve talking to people getting all that right matters the most. ME1 had very clunky and simple combat, but I soldiered through that because I liked the story and characters. Andromeda has much better combat, but because the story and talky bits are awful I have no desire to keep playing when there's plenty of other games with good gameplay and better stories.

Speaking of the gameplay, I really wish Bioware would get off of their MMO kick when it comes to quests/missions.

Any recommendations on the far cry season pass? I'm undecided because the main thing I'm interested in is valley of the yetis, which is only $15 by itself. Is any of the other content interesting or worth it?

Also, count me among the people who were put off by the mass affect trial. The only thing I really love is the combat and mobility improvements, but the story doesn't seem as interesting so far and there are way too many bland quests. I'm worried about the game becoming too much of a grind.

None of the other content is worth it and I personally wouldn't recommend Yeti for more than $5. Thought it was a very bland DLC.

The winner should use the $10 to buy Shadow Warrior if they don't have it already. One of the best under $10 games I have ever bought.
I loved Shadow Warrior so much that you just made me go check and see when Shadow Warrior 2 is coming out and it looks like pretty soon. There is a recent announcement that says it is coming out in the spring if certification goes well.

Is it really that good? I still haven't played it. Or bought it I guess. First person with a sword seems clunky (my only experience is TES games).

Is this Best Buy Mass Effect Andromeda steelbook a pricing error at $20 or literally just a steelbook with no game? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/mass-effect-andromeda-best-buy-exclusive-steelbook/5757702.p?skuId=5757702

The latter would make sense as the game itself is listed under "customers also bought"...
If I remember correctly, for gears 4, the cup that was a pre-order bonus also showed up for sale for $20. I'd assume that the steelbook is just the steelbook, maybe even some sort of pre-order bonus, but I don't know.

Also, I played the new Hitman game. I rented it from Redbox and was able to do the main missions. It's great. I only have 2 gripes. One, the load times are long and if you fail, you're loading a lot. second, if you punch a guard, you have to knock them out when they're down problem is, the knock out button is also the snap neck button. If you get into a fight with a few guards, you could easily kill one guard when you're quickly trying to knock out another. Overall, I really enjoyed the game but I don't know that I'd play it repeatedly. I'm not too interested in approaching the missions in multiple way or trying to max my score. I'm interested in solving the kill puzzles in hitman but not in finding all the available solutions.

I definitely agree that 75 isn't a bad score. It's just not as good as I had hoped is all. I've loved several mediocre games, and thoroughly enjoyed "bad" games. I'm one of those weird people who enjoyed the Goldeneye remake for the Wii back in the day so I'm not someone who can take any sort of high road with anything.

75 is definitely not a bad score by itself, but it's definitely alarming when the previous games were in the 89-94 range.

Exactly.

Also the bar has been set twice since Dragon Age Inquisition came out. Going forward open world games are going to have to be like Zelda:BOTW and Witcher 3. Anything less is going to be scored less most likely.

The steelbook at BBY is just a loose steelbook and they have to account for it and keep you from just returning the game and keeping the steelbook so it becomes a bundle.

first game I paid for by myself (with birthday money)

loved it and still do, would love to see an hd makeover

probably one of my favorite games of all time

I was referring to Little Nemo: The Dream Master, not Zelda II, and I'm assuming so was .Beowulf.

And yes, an HD remaster ala Ducktales would make my inner child very happy. Little Nemo was one of the first games I bought for myself, too.
