This thread will attempt to provide a place to discuss past/present/future PC gaming deals. While mainly focusing on Steam games, any standout sales may also be presented. I will not be updating every Daily/Weekly/etc. sale. The tools to help individuals become a smarter shopper will be provided below.

re: the game, all this is for the console pheasants or non cag PC fools. anyone with half a brain on PC knows this will be sub $15 in a year and will end up being dirt cheap in 2 years. See you then.

 
Anyone following the Grimoire : Heralds of the Winged Exemplar discussions?  If not, you should be if you like to watch train wrecks.....Anyway, the latest golden nugget is that the game saves are broken (or not? can't really tell as I don't have the game), thus many neckbeards are gnashing their teeth because they may lose 40+hrs of their playtime. 

The best part is that someone uploaded their savegames to Dropbox for Cleve the developer to check out and posted a dropbox link to the zip file in the discussions.

Good idea.....except for the fact that they uploaded all the game files not just the save game files to the public dropbox. OOPSIE!!!!!

Which wouldn't be the end of the world if the developer hooked into the Steam API that checks to see if you own the game and it's in your library....but I'm guessing he didn't so.....yeah......

Mass Effect 3 and Andromeda both have purchasable RNG loot crates for their co-op multiplayer games.  In ME3, I spent about 750 hours and never fully maximized my weapon manifest (meaning certain weapons were not as powerful as they could be).  The loot grind in Andromeda is even worse.  Quite a few of my MECoOp friends spent well over a hundred bucks trying to avoid a healthy chunk of the grind.

It's a terrible system, but makes so much goddamned money for the companies involved that I doubt we'll ever see it removed.

It is supposedly the last big health update meant to "reset the foundation" the game is built upon. After that, the next patch should be three new operators and a map.

Serious question, are you not DLing ARK for tonight? If so, I don't want to make the other bros DL since this was scheduled just for you:

this will be a pubg night. Not even I want to download this again just to grind low level shit.

In other bro news:

BF1 is introducing a new perk system where you can choose three perks for your char. One is class based, two are weapon based. One example was the medic can have a perk where downed players auto release a smoke grenade to provide cover for revives. So it becomes even less realistic (con) but maybe gives it a new boost? Other speculated perk was snipers spawning decoys which would probably make the game worse.

For Honor will be having a free weekend (I assume to advertise the new servers).

ARK is introducing cute otters.

Steam has launched 1000 new games since Greenlight was shut down and at a pace far greater than when they had Greenlight.,

Eagerly awaiting this patch. It may be massive but its long overdue. From their previous screenshots all the new textures look fantastic, plus a 'final' fix for all their lighting issues. a.k.a. no more ridiculous bloom from out/in and you should be able to look through windows and doors and see things. I dont remember what it looked like in beta/E3, but supposedly that looked alot better than what we had on final release, so Im wondering if they are bringing back all that old texture work they did since they finally figure out how to make it run adequately

Eh, I think Syntax said earlier that this is the sort of thing you see a lot of multiplayer games and it's in games like WoW or Team Fortress or CS:GO where publishers really make a killing with this sort of foolishness, but to my mind, that's a much more innocuous phenomenon. I played multiplayer in ME3 and I never spent a penny, but I had a great time playing it in PUGs. You don't really need to buy loot in that game to be competitive because it's players vs. AI. I think the real issue with this is when it becomes commonplace in single-player games. As I said before, if you know you have a grindy timesink that exists simply so that people can get powerful enough stuff to beat a level boss or something similar, then you're rigging the system against players who don't spend extra money.
 
My brother recently revealed that he has spent over $1000 on microtransactions on some mobile phone war game. He also still lives with our mom.

In case you're not following the thread here let me spell it out for you: if you buy Shadow of War, soon you will also be living with my mom.

 
I think the idea that these loot chests hindering game enjoyment and the ability to complete the game are a bit overblown.
Everything in the loot chests will be available just by playing the game. Nothing in the loot chests is required to complete the game. There is no need to grind out this stuff. It's optional.

In the same vein, you can win at Candy Crush without spending a dime. But the game is entirely designed around encouraging you to spend many dimes while keeping up the pretense that you don't really need to.

You don't add a microtransaction system for stuff with in-game effects and then NOT tilt the game towards making people want to use it.

I am not playing ark and dont have it downloaded. Unless I find a non grindy server with a decent tribe to do end game stuff Ill probable never play the game again.

Id rather have bf1 make decent team balancing between matches and maybe new free maps that bother with this other nonsense.

Well, looks like it might be PUBG all week this week then, which is just as well considering the last few weeks of bro nights have been Bah bitching louder and louder until we finally give up and switch to PUBG for the night.

Yep, I'm waiting to redownload the game tomorrow once the patch has been implemented (had to reinstall windows the other day so I have to redownload all my games now :()

Year 2 SP owners get some Doc headgear and stuff and people who played during the Health season get a free charm. You gotta love the devs and how they treat their playerbase.

 
I downloaded ARK for Weiler so he owes me a bucket of internet to pour back into my computer.

I'm sure Weiler would be happy with a week of BF1 every night. Not sure if he likes any other games. To his credit, he posted on the event page before that.

squeeeee, rez infinite coming to pc. My most favoritist dreamcast game of all time. Hopefully they bring the vr support with it

(there was another post that went along with it stating it was coming to pc with 4k, but it got removed after they posted this)

That would be some of the best news of all time, but I don't quite get how that gif points to a PC release. It could just be DLC or something for the PS4 release, couldn't it? Or did I miss some amazing thing somewhere saying otherwise?

 
I remember hunting down copies of Rez for PS2 in my consolebro days.  I played it a little and it was just okay, but not $100 okay, so I would just flip those copies.

Mini-headphone reviews:

Philips SHP9500S - Over Ear/Open - $49.99

Weretable summed this up pretty well, but these are an excellent pair of headphones and well worth the money.  Never had open headphones and never had a pair of over ears that actually comfortable enclosed my ears, but these do.  The sound is great and they're really good for games IMO. So I might stick with these and maybe a V-Moda Boompro if I want to get a mic for them. 

Philips M1MKIIBK/27 Fidelio - On-Ear - $39.99

These are excellent as well and would be better suited as on-the-go cellphone headphones (which is what they were designed as).  On-ear, but super comfortable, even with my glasses.  Sound is great.  They are louder than the 9500S and I assume take less power to get loud (again makes sense since they are geared towards mobile).  These also have deeper bass and would probably be better suited for EDM/Rap/Pop music.  

I think I'm officially a Philips fan.  I buy a lot of headphones and quality/price ratio, these are right up there with some of the best I've bought.

There was a post before it that got taken down that said they were doing it, but has since been retracted, was from an artist that worked with sony, bethesda, bunch of others, who claimed it was a press release email they got. There's a good possibility thats what its about though

That is fantastic news. Unfortunately it does reduce my justification for owning a PS4 by about 15%.

I'm so happy with the state of PC gaming these days. I grew up reading "PC is dead" articles every single year online and in magazines, but there was always plenty to prove the naysayers wrong.

With the way older exclusives are getting ported, indie development, and 95% of AAA releases being day one multiplatform, the PC has never been more of a complete package. The number of exclusives I've wanted to play this console generation is pretty pathetic. I think it might finally be my last.

That's some amazing news. Aaero is a decent Rez clone but I've been craving the real thing since I packed my Dreamcast and hate messing with Dreamcast emulators.

If it does support VR, hopefully I can use a standard controller and Riftcat/Vridge on my phone like I can with Thumper. I'm new to the VR bandwagon; it works well enough, but most games require Oculus/Vive wand things.

to be honest i thought it was just bros pulling my leg and expected the nights to be changed to something else. No one ever mentioned it in discord, i would have said not to bother then.

if I was picking games it would probably be old shit games, no one would show up for.

noone make a decent behind the head set of headphones anymore, logitech used to have a nice set but dont make them anymore. Ive bought like 3 sets in the last year and they are horrible. I really cant stand traditional headphones.
