Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I decided to finally tackle The Evil Within 2 last weekend. I'm on chapter 15 now.

Loving it so far except for a few plot points here and there. It definitely looks and feels like a hybrid between RE4/5/6 and elements of Silent Hill and Alan Wake. Thing is, should I go for an NG+ immediately afterwards, OR, leave it for later and jump straight into RE2?

First world problems  :bomb:

Since I bought this around 2 black Friday ago on both ps4 and Xbox because the first one was so damn good.I keep telling myself when the fuck will I start this game and I've been meaning to get 1000gs and plat when I do.

My new game plus was super fast due to all the upgraded equipment. Really liked the game though and think it got overlooked. The backtracking can be a little tedious, but the one "lady" would give me the chills every time.

Hi,

When using my bing points to purchase 12 months of gold will they send me a code still OR does it auto-apply it to our account now like the Microsoft gift card purchases do..??

Thanks!

It was still a code last time I redeemed a few months ago, after the gift cards became auto deposit.

I powered through and finished it, though I fought the stupid Xbox d-pad the whole time. Pretty proud of myself for only turning on cheats for the last ten-ish screens.
You're a better man than I, got stuck somewhere in Ch4 and max cheated through the rest of the game.

Here, I'll grab the spoiler from the email. ;)

No zombies, dumb sludge things, and lack of enemy variety in general.
I'm fine when there aren't zombies occasionally. The series is really about B.O.W. if you get down to it, so I'd much rather have well implemented monsters like 7 and Revelations than the badly implemented zombies that 6 and some of the spinoffs have had. I'll give you enemy variety though, 7 pretty much only had two major enemy types for most of the game, plus the bugs in the old house. I think it's because of the large number of transformations from the various human characters, and the fact that you see them so often.

My only real nitpick with RE7 was Ethan himself, he just wasn't fleshed out at all compared to past games, but I guess that's what they were going for.

The one thing that seems a bit wonky to me about this new RE2 announcement is that those classic polygon costumes sound like they're going to by purchase only from launch day, until they go free in March. It's just a weird set up. I don't really care since they're gimmick costumes I wouldn't use for a while anyways, and they have the real version of these in the game already, so whatever. The new mode sounds like it could be really cool if it's truly a randomizer. They must have seen the recent popularity of the mode for REmake on PC. If it isn't that, and it's more like the Mercenaries that have been in most of the recent games it's still cool, but an official randomizer just sounds much more interesting to me. Playing as the minor characters is great, and presumably that leaves room for other main characters to guest star if they aren't already.

What's the backward compatible Xbox 360 game(s) for the week, if any? I thought they were supposed to announce this news on Tuesday, but usually it doesn't happen until later, and when I mention it next Tuesday, I'm told it's old news.
It's typically been on Tuesday at noon eastern time, however the first BC announcement for this year occured on Thursday (Jan 10.) at noon, followed by Ace Combat 6 being officially annouced as BC last week on a Wednesday at noon.

does anyone know if the halo 5 online community is still there? thinking about trying to clean up a few online achievements before i delete the game

Yeah, it's there. I think more people are migrating to MCC since it's good now, but 5 still should be populated well enough to do whatever you want.

I'm sinking with the Windows Phone ship.
Same here. At least we have 10 months left! I've had my Lumia 950 for 3-4 years and it's starting to crap out. I looked at some phone prices for making the jump to either and it's too pricey. I'm just gonna shell out the $150 for a brand new Lumia 950 now and deal with that tough choice this December when we're forced to.

Maybe we'll find out tomorrow if they're switching to once a week Wednesday BC announcements. Which could allow them to more easily keep the streak alive.

I’m really kicking myself for not getting Overwatch when it was last on sale. It’s $60 on the Xbox store and I can’t find any digital codes at any online retailer except Amazon and it’s $60 too.

Those with the windows phone does it allow you to access your Microsoft movie and tv library? Hopefully they'll come out with a app for ios and android user can use to access their library.

Just saw this in my email:

For a limited time, score bonus Microsoft Rewards points on purchases from Microsoft Store. The more you spend, the more you earn.

It’s easy—shop your favorite Xbox games and digital content from Microsoft Store between now and February 17th. We’ll tally up your total spend, and you’ll be rewarded:

$25 – $49 = 500 points
$50 – $99 = 1,500 points
$100 or more = 4,000 points

That doesn't seem great, and I noticed today they changed up the bing home page for MS Rewards searches to make me actually type something. At least I still have VIP star level till June, That's usually 6000 points on $60 for me. RE2make costs $60....  :whistle2:k

Yes. It is called Movies & TV, which if I'm not mistaken is the title of the app on the Xbox as well.

I picked up an HP Elite x3 when the Microsoft store had them on clearance last March. It should last me past the end of life for the OS. Then I might join the evil empire when it finally becomes a brick.

I wonder if they’ll open up the Anthem demo to do a stress test or something as the weekend goes along. Don’t really want to pre-order - after all the price debacles in November and December, I’m hesitant to pre-order anything at all - but I may go with a month of EA Access again just to try it out some more. Enjoyed the Alpha, but it was very limited.

On another note, played some Celeste tonight for the first time since last May apparently (according to achievement progress) because of all the chatter around here. The controls are definitely not as tight as they should be, and yes, it’s hard as balls at some points, but it’s still enjoyable, I love the music, and beating puzzles/levels gives a great sense of achievement. I only did level 8 (which I had apparently started but given up on partway in), but it was definitely a good time. Just my two cents.

Need a little help with the Xbox Marketplace.

Trying to buy the digital deluxe edition of Resident Evil 2 as a gift and when I go to the marketplace it only shows "Pre-order" then after that it's "Select a payment".

>There is no visible option to choose "Buy as gift".

Does anyone know if a gifting option will appear if I were to purchase the game?

Or does the option to buy games as gifts only show up on the marketplace after a game has been released?

One of my nephews is deployed and I'm trying to get him RE2 as a surprise birthday gift.

If you’re ok with physical, it goes on sale around $20-30 quite often, less if you still have GCU with Best Buy. If you prefer digital (wouldn’t blame you), I’m sure another sale will come along soon. There’s an event starting on Thursday, and occasionally they’ll do free weekends after those are over or around them during which there’s also a sale, so maybe in the next few weeks. It’ll definitely go cheaper again and will most likely still be populated.

The big problem is that they’ve gotten smart and instead of just trying to sell a 2+ year old game for $60, they have the “Legendary Edition” or “Gold Edition” or whatever version it is now, which gives you some skins and/or loot boxes to help your cosmetic addiction start.

At least maybe now they will put more xbox games on IOS and Android. Get them cheevs on the go!

But for real I also had a windows phone till a year or 2 ago and I really miss it. iPhone blows, I had to switch over for iMessage :(

You can't gift pre orders I've had this problem as well. Check Best Buy or amazon for a pre order code they usually have them

I’ve noticed you can get a physical preowned for around $20. You’re right about the new editions of the game. From what I’ve seen, all the new versions just include skins which is a poor excuse to keep the standard price as much as a brand new game. I’ll wait for it to go on sale digitally again because after the first couple of years I couldn’t stand buying physical discs. Thanks.

I've had a Windows Phone since 2011 and most recently, got a Lumia 640 LTE during Black Friday 2014 for $30. I will ride this phone out til the end. Just prefer the interface over the others, but I guess I'll switch over to Android later this year since I have no other choice. End of an era I guess. Like the Zune RIP

Curious to see what 360 game will become BC this week. Hoping it'll be Lollipop Chainsaw

It's really bullshit since OW has been $40 since day one on PC. At this point I'm pretty sure it's still officially $60 because there has been paid updates or expansions to the game and we've seen how pissy Activision is about Blizzard's slow game release schedule.

OW is one of the few games I wish I bought digitally since it has no offline functionality at all. It seems like they have a big sale every two or three months. Usually when there is a free weekend.

I’m sure it’s due to Activision. Even though the standard edition is $40 linked from Blizzard to The Microsoft store, you can only buy the Legendary Edition at $60. There is no way to buy the cheaper version digitally. It’s crazy that a two year old online only game that has newer versions that just include loot boxes of skins is at full price. As a game I want to play as the mood hits me, I want it digitally so I can open it up without digging out a disc from my entertainment center.

There's another demo period next weekend (Feb 1st) and it'll be open to all. Everyone can try it out then. No need to preorder if you don't want to.

Oh I have no intention of keeping my Anthem preorder, but BB emailed me my access code within an hour. If it turns out to be good I'll buy it a few months after release when the price drops.

anyone know how long the demo is?
VIP demo is this weekend only then the next weekend it is open to everyone. Vip progress carries over.

They are starting demo players at level 10 I think, they claim is about half way through the game, with a lot of stuff unlocked to get an idea of what is available. Also loot and exp rates are going to be higher so players can try different stuff.

Preordered from BB so we could try it out this weekend and make an ultimate decision. If we like it we’ll go digital and share it across our two ps4s. Kind of wish it was crossplay with pc so we could do xbox/pc.

I liked the limited alpha for what it was but I really want/need to see more to really make a value judgement.

I only get value put of a GAAS game when I can play it with my wife. Otherwise I find them tedious.

I really hope they don't intend to broadcast that on TV. The excitement would rival a bowling league or fishing show. How could the announcers even manufacture hype for that.

"Who's going to finish harvesting first? Oh my God I have no idea how Venom is keeping his tractor on the field. He's tilling that field in record time folks!"

What do you mean?

I just did the old Bing.com right-click, open in new tab thing I always do for searches on the top news stories and got my 150 points in a minute or two, as always. Not sure if that's what you're talking about, though.

Yeah that's what I'm talking about totally different format for me now

This dude is hilarious. Like when he did the "Suck it!" motion after getting a strike. Watch the end of the video, it's the best part.

Or this epic reaction when he won the Whatever Bowling Championship of the world:
