Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

I agree about the world characters in Odyssey. I much more enjoyed many of the side characters of Odyssey than those of Origins. Main characters I would put on the same level. I liked Bayek and Kassandra both. I think where I prefer Pdyssey is the setting. I love studying about ancient Egypt, but so much of the game took place in barren desert areas. Island hopping and the varied environments of Greece made Odyssey more visually appealing and more fun in terms of gameplay to me.

Just says “March 7. No explanation needed.”

Yeah, that’s helpful. Not.

Edit: actually the sky background has me wondering if it’s No Man’s Sky. I would be down with that.

Have it on PS4 from long ago but know a lot of changes have occurred since I played it around release.
Get Morphite instead of No Man's Sky. Same premise, less frustration.

I can’t believe I might pull this off. I used my Microsoft credit for AC: Rogue and if I do all my searches the next two days I’ll be able to get a $5 credit. That $5 will adding to what credit I have left, I can get Watch Dogs 2 for free. This will be close.

I was wondering why this game has had virtually no coverage even though it's out in three days. Japanese Amazon reviews are sitting at 1.8 out of 5 saying the game is just bad, and they've completely disabled live-streaming from the console app after release. It's also selling for 44% off even though it came out on February 28th.

I was hoping it'd be good but all I really knew about it was the good looking designs from Metal Gear's Shinkawa and Xenoblade mech designer, and the Armored Core director being on it. I also thought it was going to be multiplatform but I guess not.

They said other platforms would be considered after launch. Sounds like we can just let PS4 keep it.

While I loved the setting of Origins I couldnt connect to the characters or story, and finally gave up after 20 hours and moved onto Odyssey. I don't regret it at all. Odyssey in my opinion has a much more engaging story and characters (Kassandra) and I've found it to be more varied enviroment wise. I'm constantly having those "Just one more mission.. just one more side quest then I'll go to bed... Oh but Im so close to this.. Alright, Just one more!" Moments and I rarely had those with Origins. I'm 65hrs into Odyssey and still enjoying exploring. The world map is massive and gorgeous.

I'm thinking about getting a 240gb SSD to use as an external drive for my S. Are there any drives or enclosures to stay away from for compatibility issues? I'm looking at these in particular.

ORICO USB3.0 to SATA III 2.5" External Hard Drive Enclosure for 7mm and 9.5mm 2.5 Inch SATA HDD/SSD Tool Free [UASP Supported] Black(2189U3) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01M08LCXW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_RIXECb89RCEYJ
Crucial BX500 240GB 3D NAND SATA 2.5-Inch Internal SSD - CT240BX500SSD1Z https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G3KRZBX/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_FJXECbGGP9YK1

Well, I too have caved on AC Odyssey gold. Used Microsoft rewards for a $5 credit so $29 after taxes is not bad for the full odyssey experience plus a copy of AC 3 remastered. Now I just need to finish Red dead 2, shadow of war, and kingdom hearts 3. Damn my gaming ADD.

that enclosure is fine but the SSD is a gamble. Technically you need a 256GB drive but SOME 240GB drives work. According to reviews, this one works with xbox: https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-PLUS-240GB-Internal-SDSSDA-240G-G26/dp/B01F9G43WU

if you're reading SSD reviews you can search for "xbox" but make sure on the review it says 240GB and not 480 because they mix the reviews all together in one page.

For those not paying attention, Dead or Alive 6 has the worst costume unlock system ever created.  In previous games, beating arcade mode would unlock a costume for the character you used (or 2 costumes in tag mode).  In DoA6, you get "parts" of a random costume for a random character.

https://i.redd.it/denolnyetnj21.jpg

Beating arcade mode awarded ONE part for a costume that costs 1000 parts.  After getting the 1000 parts, you have to spend in game currency to actually get the costume.  Quest mode gives more parts, but there are only so many quests (you probably won't get the costume you wanted after beating all the quests).

They basically put a F2P system in a $60 game.  Koei Tecmo greed is insane.

Ok, so ... I couldn't resist AC Odyssey, but I used online chat and had Best Buy match it (used reward certs) since Amazon matched XBL's $33 price point.

So, if anyone has BB credit to burn, there you go.
This morning was my time to join up! I had $5 credit from GameStop that I used bring that $33 down a bit. Enjoying AC: Origins now. AC: Odyssey will be played awhile later but I’m glad it’s in my backlog at that price point!

This is why I don't buy more recent fighting games, but they must have made enough money off the previous game to know that people are willing to buy into these types of sales schemes. Ridiculous.

Other fighting games don't really have a system like this specifically. Injustice 2 is closest but it had a stat-based mechanic for most of the modes in the game, plus you could mix and match everything instead of slowly unlocking a few alternate customs. Mortal Kombat 11 has gear again but I don't know if it's stat-based again, so that may be a complaint there.

Tekken and Soul Calibur both allow you to unlock specific parts with in game currency, with Tekken also having alternate costumes. Street Fighter V does have some kind of random unlock mode for some special costumes now, but it was recently added after years.

DOA is really going out of their way to make paying for costumes as "appealing" as possible. With as many cosmetic as they sell the would earn a lot of good will if they at least made DLC characters free. As is there are already two you need to pay for and two more announced. I could see if they had to charge for guests like Mai, but they could throw in some costumes or a stage to make that more worth it.

I mean why don’t they just give us what we really want in DOA 6....playing naked. No costumes required. Problem solved.

If it's the same as the beta, it seemed like pieces would unlock after every ranked match. If it's the same in the full game, you'll unlock them quickly once you fight online. Though I'm not sure if winning matters.

Well, since this is the year that I have decided to scale back my gaming purchases, it doesn't really matter to me what they decide to do going forward. I sat down last night and started playing my backlogged PS3 games, and the first one that I put it was Soulcalibur IV. My first thought was, "Hey, this is a really great looking PS3 game!" My second thought was, "Hey, you can play as Darth Vader in this one!" Then, I remembered that I have mainly been playing as Mitsurugi since the Dreamcast because that is the character whose moves I am mostly familiar with. And, other than trying out Vader to see what his moves were like, I played as Mitsurugi for about a half-hour before I got bored. So, the point that I'm trying to make is that a guy like me obviously isn't the target audience for fighting games going forward.

I remember walking into an arcade and putting my quarter on a Street Fighter II machine to claim that I had the next round, and then stepping up to swiftly get my ass kicked since I wasn't very good at it. And, as much as I loved every minute of it then, I'm getting too old to care about paying money to put a new outfit on a character when I'm too busy trying to figure what's going on so that I don't lose the round and probably will never look at the outfit outside of the character select screen.

ADATA SU655 480GB 3D NAND 2.5 inch SATA III High Speed Read up to 520MB/s Internal SSD (ASU655SS-480GT-C) https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07DNKKGP8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_YW0ECbC4R2F5S

I bought this, got it yesterday. Bastards have it back on sale now of course. I had an HP enclosure, probably from the 128gb SSD I bought years ago for like $90. Barebones, had to swap cables to find a proper 3.0 spec but it works great. Anthem load times are tolerable.

I would spring both for a ~500gb drive to future-proof a little and an enclosure with USB C since those funky microB cables are harder to come by.

Looks like Far Cry 5 Gold edition is still up on Australian store. Also checked UK store and it is up there also. So either it is getting delisted and just has not happened everywhere yet or the US store has an error or something.

Debating between vanilla or gold, for only $20 is a pretty good deal but will I every play the DLC?
I’m trying to decide that myself. I don’t care about the co-op stuff and the tremendous amounts of skins, clothes and paint jobs but there looks to be some decent story dlc. Part of me wants to get gold for the dlc but $9 for the base game is very tempting. Excluding co-op stuff, there maybe 5 or so hours of story missions. I’m not sure $11 is worth the extra stuff when I could use my credit on something else.

Anyone know how to cancel Gamepass once the system tries to autorenewal but fails because there's no money available for it to go through? I know I had autorenewal turned off, yet it attempted to charge me anyway. Now I can't seem to cancel that anywhere online or via the console because it says payment is past due. Plus they keep sending me emails saying to go pay now.

When you go to account.microsoft.com/services does it not let you cancel gamepass from there because an outstanding balance?

I don't think you can cancel anything on the console which I'm not a fan of.

A friend had his Xbox console die and was looking for the cheapest Xbox One S without going the pre-owned route... seems like there aren't any great deals right now, does anyone expect a big discount on consoles around Easter or sooner?  I might try and convince him to wait it out, although he is surprisingly into Fallout 76 right now and may not want to be away for too long.  Best I've seen is around $210 from Amazon warehouse for a "damaged packaging" bundle with BFV.

Your friend a veteran? The exchange had an s bundle for $150 for active military and veterans yesterday. Not sure if it's still active.

He is not. He also doesn't have any real allegiance to a particular store in terms of reward points or membership perks, so he's really just looking for the best cash price without factoring it any potential 'rebates' or investments like gift cards for future purchases. And he's gaming on a 32" HD so no need for the X, which I think is a better investment at this point IF you have the other necessary hardware to make use of it.

Newegg had bundles on sale for $199 in that I got one price matched to Best Buy last week. So they’re happening, just gotta keep your eyes on the main. Amazon, Best Buy, new egg, Sams and Costco. Walmart and target usually only during a special season.

The DOA6 official Twitter says that after tomorrow's maintenance, the costume unlock rate will be 10x what it is now for Arcade, Time Attack, and Survival modes.

I'm still eagerly waiting for news about the free version.

Well shit. My Gold runs out tomorrow, any deals on it? I was more concerned about Game Pass over the holidays that I forgot about Gold.
