Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

My feelings are similar to yours on this. The way I play games (with a huge backlog and very sporadically because of my work schedule), there is no guarantee I'll beat even shorter games very quickly. That means I usually need longer access to games to actually a) be in the mood for that game b) to actually beat it. I also cashed in on the sweet conversion deal for Game Pass, but barring that I don't think it would really be my thing.
I didn't use game pass as much as I probably should. I have NEVER paid full price and have played some stuff there including FH4. If someone is already paying for Live and has more then a say 6 months left it makes no sense to me to skip the GPU deal for a $1. Whatever the balance you have left on Live is now Live and GP. Even if you only play one game for an hour you broke even IMO. I got to check out Sea of Thieves (not interesting to me) and might some day check out JC4.

I was interested in Metro Exodus. It was added the other day and I have about 5 hours in it. I can't see me playing it a second time but I am enjoying it so far. If it hit $19.99 on BF at Best Buy I would have likely bought it then (still have GCU until early next year).

I will also be down for Gears 5 and will at least check out Flight Simulator and FH5 at a minimum. I think I saw a few people claiming with GPU you will get Gears 5 Ultimate as well. Would be cool but I am fine either way. I am mostly interested in the single player experience anyway. Who knows what else they might add in the next 2.5 years that I might want to play.

But I certainly get that people are busy and might not keep their live current. For them it might not be worth it.

You do: "We’re excited to announce Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members will also receive access to the Gears 5 Ultimate Edition, the Ultimate Edition Character Pack, 30 Days of Boost and Early Access to the title four days before its worldwide launch."

The only issue I can see with jumping on the GPU train is that when it comes time to re-up, it could be more expensive to do so. I don't think retail prices have been announced, but I can see 1 year of GPU costing $100 easy (especially since 1 year of GP costs $120). Hopefully there will be fantastic sales. :)

A shame they didn’t do the same for FH4. I bought the upgrade for the expansions but bet a lot of people saw that LEGO trailer, got excited and will be disappointed to find out that it isn’t included with GamePass.

Would have been cool for MS to make it part of GP as the announcement at E3.

Tell Tale is also making the discs worthless, so people with physical medial will be unable to play the games if they did not download the content before the deadline.

Say you upgrade or have to replace your console, the physical media is useless after the cutoff date. It's a brave new world.
Wow that's crazy. So even with the disc, you can't download because there is no access to the servers anymore to grab the content or what? Is that how this works?

Nope. The content is being delisted. All the disc did was basically give you a season pass to all of it.

I think there would have been serious blowback from the people that bought the FH4 Ultimate Edition or DLC bundles that covered 2 expansions if they gave Lego away for free without the promise there was another expansion coming. That's on top of the issues they've had recently, with the car perk reset and the star card stuff they rolled out last week that's been buggy.

I think $100 retail for a year is a very low estimate. The current monthly cost is the same as the yearly prices of live and GP together at $180. I could see it being at least $150 for a year. They wouldn't make it cheaper than gamepass by itself.

I'm hoping for people selling codes for cheap though. It'll be rough if they're not as available as the other codes. I paid $40-$50 each for a year of live and gamepass, hopefully ultimate goes for $80-$100 through trade threads.

It's worse than that, the content is being removed altogether. Typically, even if a game is delisted if you already owned a digital license (or disc) you could still access the content.

That's on top of the issues they've had recently, with the car perk reset and the star card stuff they rolled out last week that's been buggy.
Good point.

I would pay 50 cents a month for a Square sub. They don’t have enough new games to justify it... the only reason Microsoft does is because they are buying studios like crazy to build a library like Netflix of content they own.
Eh, if we're only counting Xbox releases maybe. Square-Enix actually has more development teams under their wings than Microsoft, and puts out a LOT of games year round, though the signal is a bit hard to read because they often have staggered releases for ports.

Keep in mind that until their recent restructuring the main Japanese company had TWELVE Business Divisions (essentially development teams) that for the most part all regularly released games, then you have the Western studios that they own like Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal, and their publishing work for studios like Dontnod and Avalanche. In Japan they also publish Western games for some of the big companies, including some of the Call of Duty games. They also still put out the occasional arcade cabinet and a lot of mobile support. Finally, they have a large back catalog of games going back to the NES era

It depends what exactly they do, but I could see them justifying a service, honestly better than EA in my opinion. Regardless, it seems like pretty much all the big publishers are looking into support for some kind of service, so we'll see which ones can actually survive.

I don't think that's the case. If you already own the content you'll still be able to download it.

The issue with Telltale season pass discs is that the disc just grants you a 100% discount on the episodes. You still have to "buy" them for $0. So a new copy of the disc is going to be worthless because the episodes won't be available to buy.

As long as I can just switch back to Gold only for $60 a year before discounts I will be fine. Either way I will enjoy the benefits for the next 2.5 years. I can't see MS going to $15 a month for GPU and completely doing away with Live and Game Pass. I think they would be shooting themselves in the foot.

Nope. The content is being delisted. All the disc did was basically give you a season pass to all of it.
Is this also the case for Xbox 360 games? I've got a sealed copy of The Wolf Among Us for the Xbox 360... I got it during one of Wal-Mart's weird three cent sales. (Gosh, I wonder why Telltale went out of business...) If it's now a coaster, I'll just leave it in the shrinkwrap.

I also bought the expansion pass upgrade and like Bloomy said I would be annoyed I paid for 2 expansions and only got one.

Aren't these E3 shows something?

Anyway, after watching last week's episode of DBS, I'm super hyped for the next few coming.  There are several fights that I greatly enjoy watching in the Tournament of Power (don't open unless you've seen the Japanese language version):

When Kale goes berserk for the first time.

Goku vs. Jiren round one (especially when Goku has to power up twice just to make Jiren move slightly)

When Goku goes UI for the first time.

Hit vs. Jiren

Goku vs. Kefla

Goku and Vegeta vs Jiren

Frieza vs. GoD Top (this fight blows me away EVERY TIME)

GoD Top vs. Vegeta

Jiren vs. everybody

I just wish the English dub were done better.

I was still able to dl all the episodes for Game of Thrones for the 360, a few days ago, even though they aren't listed anymore so you may want to try it.

Hey all, upgraded to an X that I snagged on sale at a local Walmart so here’s a 14-day Gold trial for someone who needs it. Couldn’t think of a snappy way to disguise some of the letters so first come, first lurked:

Can any smarter than me destiny 2 players explain the use of cross save? Is it just that I can take my one console players and download destiny light on another console or pc and use those characters there? Like it serves first time destiny players and no one else?

From what I gather, it’s so you don’t have to go through the hassle of re-leveling characters and re-acquiring gear if you want to play on another console (ie, you have XB1, friend has PS4, friend wants to play but you already have max character, don’t want to spend 40+ hours getting to his level, transfer your dude, play on PS4). I like the idea of it, though after reading today’s weekly update and seeing that purchased content doesn’t carry over (not that I expected it to, but still), I’m wondering how gear is going to work. Some things, like exotics, can only be acquired by doing certain things within the add-on missions and such, so are you just not going to be able to use those guns/armor on the other console? Could make for some weird stuff, but overall, I like the idea.

I’ve been playing through D1 on PS4 lately just because I freakin love D1 and don’t really get tired of it, but I’ll be damned if I want to play through the entire D2 campaign again just to get leveled if any friends want to play on PS4. With the character transfer, I’ll be able to take my highest dude over to PlayStation and at least run around and do strikes and whatnot with other people.

I assume you'll still be able to use your expansion gear with no issue when playing on a different platform, but since you can't access the DLC you wouldn't be able to earn more. I'm not sure about stuff that you have unlocked in your collection, and if you'd be able to reforge expansion exotics if needed. My gut says yes.

As it, this is sort of a half-step to cross-play, as with this importing it should make playing Crucible or Patrols with your friends on other platforms easy, and it gives you more incentive to double dip on buying any DLC. I would assume that we will either see D3 or an enhanced port on next gen based on how well F2P goes, and maybe by then we'll get actual crossplay so this weird system isn't needed.

The way they've talked about New Light, that could just be the base game that they keep expanding with new campaigns for the foreseeable future in the same way that Warframe and various MMOs have done. They decentralized the game so that when you start it up and complete the initial set-up missions, I'm assuming, you can play Destiny 2 or the Year 1 DLC campaigns first if you want, but you could also just buy the new expansion to just play that before anything else. It essentially lets them just keep adding to the game and expanding it infinitely for as long as they want without having to cut things off for a "new game" with the way things are set up now. In the director menu, you can just get a list of all the bounties and quests you've taken and pick something to focus on for a bit for that day, which is a neat evolution of how that game can be experienced.

I upgraded to ultimate just to take advantage of the conversation. I think they’d really screw up all the good will they’ve gotten with their base if they went with ultimate only without options. Whether it’s yearly or six month discounted offers. I’d rather go back to having the subscriptions separate because I keep Gold constantly and have only had Gamepass when I’ve gotten good deals.

I just got done chatting with support and asked him when the Gamepass Ultimate deal ends and this was his response:

"Yeah, well as per checking out with our tech advisors here, It seems like It will end on Nov. 2019:)"

So there you have it. According to him, the deal is good for another 5 months or so. I have the reference number of our chat emailed to me. I'm still gonna add another year and get the game pass deal just so I don't need to worry but according to him, we all don't need to be in a rush.

This actually sounds awesome, and definitely lines up with what they’ve said regarding the expansion pass for next year - how you can buy all 4 “seasons” or get them piecemeal if you don’t want everything. Would certainly be an interesting model moving forward, and gives them some options.

I keep thinking the next Forza Horizon game / expansion I play, I'll let the roads traveled achievement come naturally as I progress.  After spending an hour puttering around in Lego Valley, I have to continue thinking that.  Got to 111/112 and had to get up to the TV to find that last one.

2 New Quests have been added:

ID@Xbox - 2 achievements for 200 pts (18 days left)

Achievement Hunter - 10 achievements for 1000 pts (11 days left)

- Metro Exodus

- Astroneer

- Hollow Knight

- Borderlands: the Handsome Collection

- Guacamelee 2

- Everspace

- Shenmue 1 & 2

- Batman Arkham Knight

- Moonlighter

-The Turing Test

Yeah I always run around once I fire up the new game or DLC too.

I have never messed with this but see in the app I have not started it. I got two achievements in Metro Exodus today and 3 yesterday. Not sure if any of these are counting towards the 10. Any way to see how many it is giving you credit for earning towards the 10? Also when I look at the list of eligible games I don't see Metro Exodus. Thanks

I cashed out my MS rewards points for $60 in gift cards, but there's nothing I'm aching to buy digitally after E3 (and most things that I might, are coming to Game Pass at launch).  My only thoughts are Borderlands 3, but I won't be able to really play that until November, and I'm sure there'll be a slight digital sale before then; and Cyberpunk 2077, which I can get for $20 less via BestBuy with GCU.

Has anyone had any experience with pre-ordering a game with promo credit, and then requesting a refund before the game releases (which you are entitled to do) and getting that credit back after it is supposed to have expired?  That's my only thought on how to extend the life of this credit past August.

If you earned achievements before the quest went live, no they won't. Must be earned after the quest has been activated

Still not seeing metro Exodus on the list. So guess the two from earlier today won't count.

Oh well.

Thanks

ETA: I finally figured it out. The quest with Metro Exodus doesn't start until the 23rd. I will likely finish the game over the weekend. Perhaps if there are a couple of easy to get ones I missed I will go back.

I have done this before, not purposely, but it did happen. They gave me back the credit with a month left before it expired.

May have to fire up my 360 and use some XBL credit to grab UC3. Used to love that game and haven’t had anything else I’ve really wanted to buy lately with GamePass continuing to add to the backlog.

Anyone with Telltale games for the X1 or x360 should take the time to read the thread below to prevent any disappointment in the future. In a nutshell, some content is already gone forever if you didn't previously download it, other content will be gone forever in another 11 days, and the rest is on the death-watch list in my opinion. This applies to both disk and digital copies. The details and exceptions are numerous and can be found by reading the thread.

Again, it doesn't matter if you have these in your 'purchased' list or not. If the files are not physically on your xbox when some of these games go away, you're screwed. This is not a typical delisting situation. Best bet is to download any episodes you can today, now, while you still can.

My long-term plan is to move the Telltale game files to an old 3.5" hard drive via external USB enclosure, and keep them on a shelf for long-term storage without consuming my day-to-day 2.5" drives. I doubt I would replay most of them again anyway, but it won't take long to set this up so I might as well.
