Some notes
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

and I don't even know what that means, what's the difference between when they have a "Silver" sale price and a "Gold" sale price like they've had a lot of times before? Is it the first time these specific games have a "Silver" sale price and even more of a discount for "Gold"?
Yeah, I take it as a gimmicky branding of the "Gold members save even more!" they've run in the past.

I think they're just trotting out the "For the first time ever" line because it's the first time they've done this type of thing since Ultimate came out.

Someone in a discord I'm in told me in the past when a game also gets a sale price for "Xbox Silver" the Gold discount is only 10% more. Sounds reasonable enough, I've never noticed because I've always had Gold. Seems these discounts would just be the normal ones you get with "Deals with Gold" anyway if they didn't have a sale price also for Silver.

I realize I'm too late to actually help on this as it's not on sale anymore, but as one of... not many... people that has played Lichdom, I feel I am in a position to help the next time it's on sale :p

Lichdom has a neat gameplay loop if you like crafting and casting super-blow-up spells, but it has a bunch of issues.

In the end, I can pretty easily recommend it for like $5-7 if you like crafting and shooters, and don't care about a pretty forgettable story. If you have a gaming capable PC it goes on sale all the time on steam, and I've seen it in Fanatical bundles as well.
I ended up purchasing it before the sale ended for 5.99. Playing a Battlemage with no mana pool is exactly how I want to wield magic in a game. I always added a crap ton of mana to my characters in Skyrim with mods, because it was stupid how much mana spells took. I've gotten to the point in my life where I don't give a damn about achievements, so I won't be trying for any that won't unlock during my normal playing. I just don't have the time or the patience to achievement hunt anymore.

I going to pick up Hive Jump.

I've been interested in the game for a long time and $5 is my buy it price.

Does anyone know how many stars it takes to finish the Tour of Duty? I want the achievement and the Desert Kait skin but it seems like it could be quite a grind if the star requirements keep going up with each rank.

I wonder what the chances are that they will nerf the requirements before the end of the season. Probably pretty good.

I enjoyed the open world levels in Gears 5, but there are some definite areas for improvement.  Being able to use Jack's pulse from the skiff to find areas of interest (Relic weapons) would be helpful.  (Unless it's possible, don't think I tried it.)  I noticed a Crimson Omen at one point and found a weapon, but I don't think I'll want to spend hours scouring the map for all the Relics.  Didn't like opening the map and having to wait a few seconds for a "pulse" to fill it in.  Also, I don't think the map brightened visited areas enough to designate that I'd been there.

Anyone start a second campaign save to see if Jack components carry over?

The press release clearly says everything will have double the normal discount though.

https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2019/09/10/double-discounts-gold-and-ultimate/

So everything here x2:

Someone mentioned in a thread on the Gears forums that it takes 483 stars to reach General for that achievement. 262 are available from medals. So you'll need to do the daily Tour of Duty tasks. Someone worked out that you can at worst get 4 stars a day from the daily challenges - 3 1 star challenges plus a free challenge reset that could be 1 star. So if you're unlucky with the dailies, there'd be 622 stars available between the medals and dailies. Can buy more dailies with Iron. So there is some leeway.

Mmmkay, looking at the store see no difference in the prices from yesterday
They're probably in my post from last night. I sort the list with things that have separate discounts for Gold and Silver, then Gold only, then Silver ones. I wondered why there was a bunch of stuff with different discounts last night, since this wasn't one of MS's regular "Gold saves more" sale timeframes.

Yeah what i think is kind of odd about the "press release" and wording about stuff like "For the first time!" they already have a "Gold Saves more" program

I initially thought Larry was saying GPU subscribers would get a larger discount, which sounded cool. Since it's not, nevermind.

Here are some email codes I got points for at the Borderlands 3 VIP site. Don't know if they'll all still work or not.

BL3 shows up in the Ready to Install list. Says there's 39.9 GB to download between the game, Boost Mods pack and Butt Stallion pack, but the game is just a 100 MB placeholder like Gears 5 was at first.

Mmmkay, looking at the store see no difference in the prices from yesterday
Did you click through to the store? That page says Rocket League is $16 but clicking it shows it as $12 in the store for me.

Yeah what i think is kind of odd about the "press release" and wording about stuff like "For the first time!" they already have a "Gold Saves more" program
It's the first time they are doing it for Game Pass Ultimate. ;)

I bought Aerea this morning for $2.99 this morning before it went off sale.  Now I need to figure out what cheap indie game that I'm going to buy at the last minute next Tuesday morning so that I don't hate myself for the rest of that week.

I don't think you're really meant to actively seek out ALL of the Relic weapons in a normal playthrough. I was exploring a lot and stumbled upon like 8. Only advice I can say is try to triangulate blank areas of the map based on the areas and secrets you have found, since they're marked on the map. I think going for the achievement for all is probably going to be a bit of pain though.

Not all of them are that great anyways. Out of what I found I would say the only extremely good ones were the Embar and Overkill. The explosive weapons are hampered by the lower amount of ammo pick ups, and you can pick up the normal version of say the Boomshot to reload the Relic Boomshoot. Some of them are just kind of meh.

I'd also say the Lancer GL is hard to argue against carrying at almost all times because the grenade launcher is so strong. Personally, I'd recommend focusing on finding the upgrade parts and completing the side quests so you can upgrade Jack, over really trying for a lot of Relics. His abilities get extremely strong, especially Flash and Stim.

I found 7 Relics, but the achievement only shows I have kills for 4.  Markza, Overkill and Embar are tracked, but only one of Enforcer, Longshot, Boltok and Boomshot are registered.  The Longshot's second round without needing a reload was handy, and the Markza's auto fire was good.  I kept the Boltok and Markza until the game forced a weapon change.  The others I got a kill with and then let them go, at least once I got Relic Hunter for holding 3 at once.

Jack's upgrades were great.  Flash Freeze with Pulse's 20% damage buff lets you really tear through things.  Getting in position to line up shots against the Act 2 boss was tough with the shorter time on the freeze, but Wardens go down fast.  Knock off helmet, freeze, head shots.  Shock Trap is great when you've got a swarm of Juvies incoming.  I used Stim a couple times, but mostly had Pulse selected.

Just finished the campaign.  Was a lot closer to the end than I realized.  Really enjoyed where they went with the story, with a surprise near the end I really didn't see coming.  Final boss was a bit too easy, playing on Experienced / Hardcore.  The fight ended and I was like, "That was it?"  It does draw a parallel with the Lambent Brumak from Gears 2, which also didn't compare with the final battles of 1, 3, 4 and Judgment.

I let the credits roll, and they just stayed on the grey / smoke background screen.  Hit B and the screen goes black.  Wonder if that's intended.  Pause worked, and chose go to main menu.  Game sat at a loading screen for a couple minutes.  Dashboard, quit.  Game wouldn't start the first restart time.  Did the second.

Achievement for completing all campaign acts is at 73%.  Stats menu at least shows which chapters are missing.  Acts 1 and 3 are complete.  Only Chapter 3 in Act 2 is registered, and for some reason the second chapter in Act 4 isn't marked.

Jack ultimate upgrades are also only at 56%.

I had a hell of a time with the Act 2 boss even on Normal. I did get it but was wondering if I would for a bit. Might have been the toughest part of the game for me.

If not that this part was maybe the hardest for me.

In Act 4 where you are helping the guy with the "Russian accent" defend his beacon really kicked my ass too. I couldn't see the pricks with the torque bow. Several times I had cleared out the tougher bosses and got snipped by one of those pricks.

The Act 2 boss was probably where I died the most. I might've died once or twice at the part you spoiler tagged, but I mainly just waited that out with Pulse, Hijack and Flash Freezes. And some Lancer GL grenades. I was very worried after that, however, since I was nearly out of ammo.

Speaking of bosses, I think I hit the parts in Control where I can see why the game was getting a lot of 8's instead of 9's in the old review machines. Some down right frustration setting in. It's not as bad as the end of Quantum Break on hard yet, but I've stared at the TV in disbelief a few times thinking "How was that my fault?"

Has anyone here played Child of Light? I have money expiring on Friday and I’ve been waiting for this game to go on sale forever but I would like some opinions on it.

I played it when it first came out. It's a turn based rpg with a battle system similar to the Grandia series. I remember liking it enough to want a sequel, but also felt the game was quite short for a game in that genre. I'd say if you like turn based rpg's and can get it on the cheap then it is worth a buy.

I played and 100% the game. I enjoyed it for what it was. It's a fairly relaxing experience. I'd recommend for a few $.

I just recently went back and finished my play through on Xbox One. It is a really great looking game using the Ubiart engine. The story is told using rhymes similar to a fairy tale story. Gameplay is turn based with the ability to interrupt attacks and casting during combat. It has a fun rhythm to it. I beat the game twice, once on Vita and on Xbox One. Really enjoyable game. Depending on your play style and if you want to get all the characters and full completion I say its a good 10-15 hour game.

We all know it's eventually coming to Xbox (I honestly think it'll be simultaneous and Sony just has exclusive marketing, we'll see). The remake is starting to look like a perfect blend of the old JRPG style and a more action-oriented game. Can't wait.

I'm intrigued, but this being part one of ????? and us going into the next console cycle next year makes me less hyped because I don't know what to expect release wise with this. But then again, Tifa workout mini-games...

lol I love that they not only included the gym mini-games, but put them in the fucking trailer.

They said the Midgar portion for this is as long and robust as a standalone title. If I get 25-50 hours out of this and it never goes beyond Midgar, I won't care at all.

Yeah anything less than 25hrs of legit gameplay, not padding, is a requirement for me. Looks amazing though.

Seems fitting since Midgar always felt like it was almost its own game in the original, it was so different from every other place in FF7.

I hope the borderlands VIP website works better than the shift one. I only ever got like 2/3 the golden keys I was supposed to and when contacting support they said they fixed it and applied what I was missing to my account and should get it over the next week. Never got them so just gave up.

Does anyone know how red box does new releases? Could I go at 12:01 on the 16th to rent borderlands or are they not put in the machine until some time on the 16th?

Dang, I can't believe Borderlands 3 unlocks tomorrow night, after a 7 year wait (uh... I guess not counting Pre-Sequel and Tales). So pumped. And right after a fantastic new Gears of War game!

God this keeps looking better and better. I might have to double dip if it does turn out to be a long wait for the X1X version.
This looks a LOT like Advent Children...

I used to rent games on release day from Redbox about 4-ish years ago, and at that time, they were available on release day typically before noon. I could track the route of the stocking employee as I looked for availability and waited for them to get closer to me.

I'm not sure if they've changed their method since then.

Does anyone think the GPU discount games that aren't currently in games pass will be eventually? I'm looking at Reagan v Gorbachev, Hyperdrive Massacre, and Coffin Dodgers. Don't want to buy them if the likelihood is that they'll be in game pass soon

To those picking up Borderlands 3 this Friday what character class are you thinking about playing as?  There's not one that just immediately jumps out at me like in 1 and 2 so im still on the fence.

Moze. Usually I play the siren first but that mech is speaking my language.

I'm on the BL3 train but will probably wait the day or two so I can get the 6k points quest card for buying it (assuming they have one)...

I don't like or want golden gun skins anyway!

I'm leaning toward FL4K or MOZE haven't decided and picked up both their special skin helmets with VIP points yesterday so I'm still on the fence...
