Welcome to the Xbox Deals and Discussion thread.

General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Game Pass potential departure dates

Last updated - 2024-06-01
What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

If you have any questions about the list, please ask in the thread.

I've been eyeing the adapter for years and have only seen it go up. Never, ever going to buy it at those prices, so I dusted off the 360 and learned how to import custom songs into RB3. It is STUPID easy.
Was curious, so I checked it out. That's Gamecube component cable level craziness.

Hey, I actually have that one, though!

No idea if they are still worth anything, but I probably should dump it if they are. Someone here messaged me years ago about it and I horded it, thinking it would find a use. Haven't even touched it.

Is this Rock Band 4 stuff so expensive because it didn't sell well and now it is a rarity or just more demand because people are at home?

Ah, the good ol days of using Party Moose. The only problem is Rock Band 3 has that stupid song limit (like 1200 or so?) that won't let you access your library if you have more songs than that.

Also everyone I beat GTAV! That ending was pretty damn satisfying. I Just wish GTAV games weren't just full of assholes and major assholes that make your main character seem less like an ass. Now to stare at my backlog and figure out what to play next...

I played that Ghostbusters game on 360. The nostalgia factor lasted for 2 levels and I never touched it again.

It was pretty slow and boring.

GTAV is the only one of the series I played. I got GTA4 right after I got my PS3. Maybe 3rd game I had. I HATED the characters. Had no interest in V but too many people I knew said it was great. I really enjoyed it. It was fun to not be the hero for a change.

I gave up on 4 midway. I Don't know why, but I remember nothing about it besides my cousin constantly wanting to hang out when I'm in the middle of a high speed chase,

The PS2 ones have all aged pretty terribly. Failing a mission and have to drive back to the mission start point just doesn't cut it today with all the checkpoints that have become the norm. That and other QOL things that make those games stupid frustrating.

I've been looking for the USB dongle for a Gibson Les Paul Guitar Hero PS3 guitar I bought from a Salvation Army Thrift a year or two ago. Prices on both eBay and Mercari start at $50 or so and go up to $70+. Thankfully it's not too big of a deal as I had picked up the same guitar for Xbox 360 at Goodwill a few years ago.

I've also been looking to get Rock Band 4 (game only) for PS4 and pricing generally starts at $40-$45 and can go up from there. I was fortunate enough to be able to get a couple of Rock Band PS3 Fender Stratocaster guitars with dongles and wired drums at Salvation Army Thrift a few years backs.

You got a lot further then I did. I couldn't take their interaction or personalities.

I didn't think the older games aged well so had no interest in the others.

I played on OGXB not to long ago and had a blast. Not sure if it was different on PS2 but I always just saved between missions so I could load up right there with all my stuff. It is one I would play again, compared to 4 (I played when it came out on 360) I felt like SA was way more fun. I had 2 on PS1 but never played the others.

*note: the OGXB controller lacks shoulder buttons and uses the B/W buttons for those functions, drive by shooting was awkward to control at best. I assume not a problem if using BC on XB1.

The last time I played SA was the 360 port, but I know that was a bad port, but even then it's hard for me to go back to open world games after a certain point. Though on the subject of new hotness...

Control, to me, was an acquired taste. Cool moments overwhelmed by red and orange and black overload. I took a bit off and came back and finished it.

Throwing stuff at the shield guys is my best advice. They seem bullet spongey and debris weak
I can't play it period. Games in general for awhile. Just found out I have post concussion syndrome, until I (hopefully) heal neurologist said limit games and booms. Yay

I appreciate how silly the social media is for Game Pass. "Existing Game Pass subscription" is consequently exactly how much I'd like to pay for Soul Calibur.

I found some GC component cables at a local shop and they clearly didn't realize what they were, because they were only $20. I sold them when I started grad school to build up funds to live off of.

I will venture this question here for what should be the most intelligent group: after seeing the ps5 does anyone think from a consumer standpoint that the Xbox isn’t going to be enough to set it apart or really drum up launch sales?

I am definitely someone who may be late to upgrade, but I feel like the console design of the Xbox one (not sure the right name) is bland, the name is confusing, and it’s more like a PC upgrade, good specs under the hood but it looks like any CPU tower. Thoughts?

I guess I don’t have a vested interest in like Microsoft stock I’m just kind of surprised there’s been so little wow to me personally.

I think the services are the differentiator. I view Game Pass much like I viewed PS+ coming into this gen. It's an extreme value add that is head and shoulders better than what the competition is offering. Now, Sony could fix PS Now to be more like Game Pass much like Microsoft did with GWG to match PS+, but as it stands they aren't even on the same level especially when coupled with the robust rewards system Microsoft offers. And I'm saying this as someone who a year ago barely turned on my Xbox and was going to skip the next iteration. The $1 offer at last years E3 has me almost exclusively gaming on Xbox now.

Sony gimped their rewards system to the point it barely even exists these days. Meanwhile you can fund Game Pass and a couple of games with the rewards system Microsoft offers. As a CAG the Xbox ecosystem just makes too much sense. I even quit Gamefly since joining game pass and I have $300 in Microsoft credit ready to go for the Series X thanks to the rewards. It truly is insane.

Pretty sure the 360 port of San Andreas is just an awful iphone/ipad version. The kind of garbage Square-Enix does with old Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger.

That's what consoles are now - PC upgrades. You have to download and install software like on a traditional PC - it's a PC in a box. I was just playing my Dreamcast and PS2 the other day and didn't miss any of that micromanagement; nowadays you need a hard drive, broadband Internet connection, and waiting like for a table in a fancy restaurant.

In terms of first-party software, there is almost no way for Xbox to compete realistically on that front with Nintendo or Sony. Other than Halo, MS doesn't really invest in their own IPs as much as they should. Hits like Crimson Skies, MechAssault, or Lost Odyssey are just left to gather mothballs. They might bring back Fable or Perfect Dark, but the quality of those new titles may be dubious.

A similar scenario can be seen in the video streaming marketplace. You have Netflix and Amazon Prime as the titans of the industry and known for their original content. But there are a ton of other digital video marketplaces like iTunes, Vudu, Fandango, Redbox On Demand, etc., where you can still buy or rent any video you want - they just don't have their own quality original content. MS looks like it's positioning Xbox to be that kind of marketplace so that they can rake in the royalties and not have to invest $50 million on just one AAA game.

I think it’s to early to tell still. We know nothing about the launch games. The games will help build the hype. If Halo Infinite looks amazing then many people will want to play it on the best console possible.

Right now it’s a black box with teraflops. The July and August conferences will be there job to show me why I want it. What can it do. If they nail that portion of it then people who love Xbox will preorder it and the hype will build from there.

......... they literally just spent millions of dollars buying up studios and starting a brand new studio in Cali with a bunch of people with AAA game backgrounds... yes those games will be available on PC, but I highly doubt they will be on PS5 and Switch, whatever all the newly bought studios are working on.

Halo, Gears and Forza are what is holding them up now, not just Halo. Forza is the best racing series on any system right now.

Sorry to hear that. Control is a BRUTAL game to play if you have any type of color sensitivity. I had to stop playing after two or so hours because not only did I not enjoy it at all, the color design of the game was just abysmally bad.

If anyone was still debating on Ghostbusters remastered, regardless of whether you played it on the 360, I'd do a hard pass. I never played the 360 version, but it looks and plays like a very early 360 game. Tons of FPS drops and stutters.

I can’t speak for anyone but myself. I’ve preferred Xbox since the first one came out and as they improved and expanded their ecosystem with the 360 and current gen. I’ve bought each PS but I’ve traded the last two gen systems in because they just took up space. I hate their controllers and interface. I enjoyed Horizon, Spider-man was disappointing and I’ve never been interested in God of War. MLB the Show was the only exclusive I really loved but now that’s going multi-platform.
I have intended on waiting until the new systems have gone through the early hardware problems that have been so common for all systems the last two generations. Ive gotten rid of some debt and it might be feasible to buy the system at launch or around then. I also may wait and see if MLB is only available on the X Series. If it is, then I’ll buy it with no hesitation.

"People with AAA game backgrounds" does not mean a thing in terms of future hit potential - just ask David Jaffe or CliffyB. Do you think these studios will be making the next industry-defining franchises, or just solid, competent titles like Ryse, Sunset Overdrive, or Hellblade? My money's on the latter.

I’d go against whatever you’re putting your money on. The studio that made that “competent title” Sunset Overdrive went on to make Spider-Man. Ryse was done by a studio known for Crysis.

The XSX will certainly come with a 14 day or 1 month sub to GamePass so all they really have to do is advertise that it is the only console that comes with 200+ games at launch including Halo, Forza and whatever else is announced 3 weeks.

Now you’re moving the goalposts... I was responding to you saying Microsoft is not willing to spend $50 million on a first party game. They are literally spending hundreds of millions grabbing up first party studios and starting a brand new studio. I have no idea what the initiative is working on so I can’t comment on the quality of a future unknown game, but I would bet on Microsoft betting on them, which is why they are dumping a ton of money on building out that studio. The point I was arguing is that Microsoft wants to have great first party games. Will all of them be hits? Of course not, neither are Sony or Nintendo first party games. The more studios they have making stuff, the better chance they have of bringing out some bangers.

Sony and Nintendo have the benefit of being around for longer (in console gaming) and finding there niche and building a bigger global fan base. The cool thing about the first Xbox was Xbox live and being able to play FPS games online in such a robust online experience. Now PC and Sony do that just as well as Microsoft so they have to carve out something else great.

I don’t know what all they have planned for July but I’m hoping it’s great. With how this year has been we all want great games to look forward to. I thought Sony had a couple titles at there conference that looked good but with no release dates, it hasn’t sold me that I need a PS5 yet. I have 3 Nintendo Switch and 2 Xbox One and still have my 360 and a couple PCs that are gaming capable, but I have never felt compelled to buy a PlayStation so I’m hoping Sony can sell me on the PS5. I’ve always been more into shooters outside Nintendo games so that’s why Xbox seemed like a good place to play.

Too early to tell but if you only care about which console will outsell the other then just get a PS5.

The Series X is the more powerful console and it will probably price match the PS5 disc version.

Game Pass and MS Rewards is a far superior value compared to anything else in gaming.

My entire Xbox One library will play on the Series X day one (Sony has not been as transparent on BC as Xbox but I'm sure their 1st party games will all run on the PS5 at least).

My Xbox One accessories and controllers will all work on the Series X as well.

Most of Xbox's marketing of the Series X has been catered to existing Xbox owners for the most part since why would a PS4-only owner care about Xbox One BC or Xbox accessories being forward compatible.

All that being said Playstation is a more popular brand globally (and is sold in more countries) so I expect it to outsell the XSX even if the Xbox July show is as great as I think it will be.

No video games is one thing, but this going down on July 4th week has got to be the biggest kick in the nards. Good luck and I hope you can find something to get through this.

I know its tempting, but the console war discusion really should wait until july. Its really make or break for MS this time, as if they fall as far back as they did this gen again then I wouldn't be surprised for them to go back on their word and not have a new big release console again.

They either announce completely breathtaking *new* installments of Perfect Dark and Fable, as well as at least one major first party unannounced game with potential for a possible series, with the latter being essential for success.

Or

They do what they usually do and dedicate more than half the show to the new Halo, new Forza, a gears spinoff, sea of thieves/minecraft updates, some other non-game related stuff, and automatically set themselves up for failure. I think this is what is more likely to happen than the first option given the past.

Problem is is that MS isn't even in a console war anymore. They simply just need to show gamers that their console is worth buying. Kids asking their parents to buy them one console cant really be the target base anymore since the majority of them play F2P games, and they'll stick with whatever brand of console they have now, not to mention that crossplay is going to eventually be a thing in every multiplayer game, so it doesn't really matter what console you buy for MP related games.

All I personally want out of MS in July is an agreement with EA to officially announce the Mass Effect Trilogy remaster (and Left 4 Dead 3). I know both will never happen, but I can hope. I'll eventually be buying both consoles down the line again anyways. Besides, the biggest release in gaming this year, and possible of the decade, isn't even on consoles. DEADLY PREMONITION 2 IN 10 DAYS!!!

You're proving my point. I said a studio's past hits aren't a good indicator of a future hit. I wouldn't count on Insomniac to make a good game either that wasn't another Spiderman or Ratchet & Clank game. They also made that multiplatform shooter Fuse. Remember that one?

I was going to say something similar in regards to Xbox entering the industry when it was already fairly mature. MS has the unenviable task of having to compete with two extremely entrenched competitors. We live in a bubble where the Xbox brand can be said in the same breath as Nintendo and PlayStation, but globally, the Xbox name doesn't carry that far - Nintendo and PlayStation are like Coke and Pepsi in terms of brand recognition worldwide.

I said Xbox is akin to iTunes instead of Netflix, but it's not an unfavorable comparison. Obviously, iTunes makes a lot of money too and there will always be people who prefer Apple products. If you remember some years back, iTunes released the then-newest U2 album for free exclusively for its users. If you were a U2 fan, then you were probably happy to get their latest album for free. But many people didn't even want it for free. That's kind of where Xbox is now with Halo, Forza, and Gears. A very large segment of the consumers don't care for those franchises anymore even at Game Pass's high-value proposition, but the fans still appreciate those games.

Silent hill HD Collection is $7.49.everyone says its bad port i never play them. But is the only way i can play it. Original versions are expensive and my PC is not working. Help?

Soo I made it through LiS2 before it left Gamepass...and I got both of the "good endings" didn't feel "good" to me either way...*sigh*
I have the same problem with the LIS games. No ending really seems good, and the stories usually are about playing psychological games with shitty characters instead of doing the right thing.

The main game was uneven but I thought all of the endings were well done. I got the "worst" ending on my playthrough.
I have to say, that Daniel's character was quite annoying to me... I mean yeah to a certain point I understand it, he is 9 years old but even after so many times telling him, not to do stupid stuff 2 seconds after taht he does stupid stuff and it always ends really bad. lesson not learned once. And itthe church part didn't make sense to me how easily Danile got manipulated while he was basically rebelling all the time if you told him stuff. So yeah the game itself felt uneven at times. Well you could argue which of them is the "worst"

Welp I know what I get into when playing this stuff, I mean after Lis abd BTS, I kinda knew I won't get the closure I wanted for this game. Personally I find the other good ending "better" than what is considered the "best" ending. At least both of them have somewhat of a life with that.

I am very interested in getting the official Gamecube component cable. If you want to sell it let me know what it would be worth to you. Of course it would probably get you top dollar on ebay. Let me know if you list it there.

Thanks!

I'm whatever on IGN, but interesting they had their "summer of gaming" and it's now over and having all their voting and we haven't seen the July Xbox show yet. That's not very shady looking at all.

In there defense they gotta get clicks to survive, so having a voting based on what was shown in June probably gets them some clicks (not knocking it but that’s just the reality of all “news” sites). I think both Sony and Microsoft said they are having a show in August too? But who knows, so really to include everything they would have to wait til Sept or maybe later, maybe they want to cut it off where E3 would be long over by now.

I agree with you though, to truly know what was the best summer announcement you should wait til Summer is over at least.

I think i got a good ending for LiS2.
I ended up in Mexico but my brother jumped out. Almost surrendered instead.

I'll slowly watch the other endings. I didn't want to spend 45 minutes straight watching all of them.

Think I'll take a gamepass break and jump into Apex for the first time this season and play some Man Eater. Was tempted by Greedfall at 75% off but won't be tempted with such a large backlog.

Hot take, got a lot of the video game press saying that E3 doesn't matter. I think it might. I know there is a Spiderman side story and I know the PS5 comes in disc and discless versions
