Welcome to the Xbox Deals and Discussion thread.

General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Game Pass potential departure dates

Last updated - 2024-06-08
What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2025. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

If you have any questions about the list, please ask in the thread.

That'll be weeks of my life wasted this summer on ps3 crap since I own at least 3 ps3s. I think have some games purchased before they reduced the number of systems authorized so wonder how that works now.

Step one is to find every game that I already own on Xbox also and throw out the ps3 copy. Then find games that are still readily available on Xbox either digitally or reasonably priced on physical and throw out those ps3 copies. Then any games with remasters, remakes, or maybe even pc versions and throw out those ps3 games. Then sort the tiny stack of exclusives and download updates. Looking over half my digital collection and I already see a bunch of game I would rather pick up on Xbox again than to even attempt facing the psn store to try finding and downloading.

The final step of this downloading and patching process across multiple systems is of course to put my ps3s back into storage and then never play these games anyway.
I Wish I Had known this was coming back in the Winter so I can gather around my PS3 that's been on for over 24 hours straight with it downloading patches and games I'm missing out on. I Got two PS3's plugged in as well, so, you know, this will be fun.

In short, legit happy I chose XBox during the 360 gen and onward now.

I'm really glad I more or less made the move to 360 due to backwards compatibility, and most multi-platform games I had or wanted on PS3 I got cheap copies (digital or otherwise), the majority which are backwards compatible. Of all the ways they might have handled PS3, I never expected them to pull an Old Yeller. Even games stuck on 360 will continue to work as intended due to MS's infrastructure with XBL, since they had the upgrade / abandonware after the original Xbox. At the time, it was hard to appreciate just how forward-thinking they were being.

It's especially painful to see since PS3 did such a great job of honoring Playstation brand and history. Abandoning all pre-PS4 digital content and the wacky, unique IPs that made Sony stand out during the first 15 years is quite the eff-you to what made them a success in the first place.

Well if the rumors are to be believed, don't worry because PlayStation maybe opening up a mobile games division instead! That's right! PS3/Vita/PSP marketplace and Sony Japan died so Nathan Drake can possibly run and collect coins on the go on your phone!

Really all this PlayStation news is a big oof, but...

I Am bored at work and the comments are just wonderful.

And I like how gaming news these days have simply reduced to...

XBox: Another new Game Pass game announcement?? Yay! Game Pass rules!

PlayStation: What are you doing? WHAT ARE YOU DOING?? WHAT THE fuck ARE YOU DOING????

XBox playing it really cool and near flawless that I'm legit clenching my butt cheeks in when they might fuck it up because it can't keep going this way. Though I don't think it'll be as painful as Sony's constant bad decision making turns these few weeks,

Yeah, Phil was talking up Lost Words: Beyond the Page on Twitter. And the question isn’t whether I’ll buy it but when is it hitting GamePass?

This method worked for me. No spoilers at all.

Also, the game ran like hot garbage on my Series X. Like single digits frame rate. Super weird. Anyone else have that?
That's weird, I ran it without a problem on my Series X. Seemed fine. That was off of an external drive, too.

Ya- on my one x it took over 8 minutes for five minutes to pass on the timer.

While playing Outriders yesterday after the last fight in trench town I went up a level, but my hp & armor totals went down. Before I leveled up all my gear was at max wearable level so I'm thinking there's a bonus that kicks in when all items are at max level. I have some purple items so it will probably be a bit before I can test it myself, was wondering if anyone has noticed it and/or has the available gear to test it.

Supposedly the mlb show preload is up
Over 70 gigs in size. Cuz fuck you that's why.
yup, I'm seeing 72.41 GB for Series X. Glad I can get it it loaded now before launch on the 20th.

Seeing that people are reporting the Xbox One version around 45 GB. Big difference but Series S/X have the graphics upgrade and Stadium Creator (exclusive to next gen only)

Mobile is stupid for people like us, but it's hard to argue against some support based on how the Japanese (and Asia in general) market has gone over the past decade or so. Especially with Sony's decision to abandon handheld hardware. It sucks, but even some of the big names decided to go in that direction, like Sakaguchi and his Mistwalker studio.

Now can Sony actually capitalize on that? Are they aiming for that crowd or the more Western oriented cash cows like King/Activision/Niantic? Hard to say.

I doubt mobile explicitly impacted the old stores, it's more like the general shift in philosophy.

Sounds like Test Drive Unlimited news is coming soon. Took long enough to finally get another game. Loved it back in the day.

I already sold all of my native PS3 games a while back. The Uncharted trilogy were the only exclusives that I really wanted to hang onto forever but then Sony gave away the PS4 remasters last year so I'm all set.

I still have the console hooked up but it is purely a PS1 BC machine these days.

This is great advice! I decided to go through my PS3 library and found half a dozen games that I also own on Xbox 360 so out they go. I also found out that I own a LOT of PS3 exclusive games.

On a similar note, I also noticed that I have The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind in my Xbox Store wish list. I own it physically but would rather own it digitally, but it's also on GP (and should stay there indefinitely) and so I can probably just get rid of the physical copy. Right?

I involuntarily chuckled at the analogy. Lol

It chugged while loading on my Series X so I closed it out, restarted the game and it was fine.

It's $15 to $25 CIB for the physical copy depending on if it's normal or GOTY, if that factors in somehow.

With it now being a first-party game with no licensed material it shouldn't ever be delisted or removed from GamePass.

Oddly enough I am keeping my Morrowind Disc since it can be played on the original xbox that I have sitting around somewhere. It is the non-goty one so I can play the original without expansions if I want. I spent many many hours playing on that system. I will never go back to playing it there with the ridiculous load times and game save breaking over time. But I may want to pop back in and check out some of the ridiculous custom spells and enchantments I created while hopped up on fortified intelligence to extreme levels. I also need to go take pics of the decked out player homes where I spent many days just attempting to drop gear so it could be displayed. Lol.

Damn I may actually have to keep my Fallout games on ps3 too so I can see all my displays there too. Even if they remove the patches for those games I could still go back and play the full buggy glitchy unpatched original experience, plus the extra jankiness of the ps3 version layered on top. Same with Oblivion for the never patched vampire cure bug.

I wouldn't call it Ancient. Was a $2500 tv when my ex bought it, like 9 years ago, I believe. And it's literally too big for me to move on my own so I can't see the tags on the back of it atm. I've looked at the ones walmart has in store, just to see, and they look/feel so cheap compared with this one. If I do get a replacement it probably won't be until this one completely dies, and it might not be a 4k either (I'm still not sold on why 4k is better) unless I can get a really great quality 65" for cheap.

Don't get stuck on the "4K vs 2K" argument about getting a new TV. The real video improvement is with the various HDR technologies like HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. There are many people here that can attest to the beautiful imagery these technologies can put on a screen.

I definitely see the difference even from One X to Series X, but I upgraded my TV a couple months before getting the console. If you are 1080 with no HDR, you should still have some differences.

Anything that runs at higher than 4K should have smoother edges, which would be noticable compared to One S games which often toped out at 900p or lower.

Higher FPS is one of the best benefits, try something you played on One that received this upgrade, like Destiny 2 or Cyberpunk.

Other than those it's more dependent on the game, some stuff will have more visual effects on, or better draw distance. Ray tracing games means much better reflections and shadows, as well as more realistic lighting.
I don't play either of those games. Watch Dogs Legion got a 45gb update when I moved it to the Series X internal, but zi see no difference in it. I still have my S hooked up and they look identical to me. Only difference is the Series X loading is faster. Beyond that I'm not seeing anything different in the Optimized for Series X/S listed games that I have (Borderlands 3, Halo MCC, No Man's Sky, State if Decay 2, Division 2,Watch Dogs Legion). They all did huge updates when I moved them all to the new internal, but don't see anything different about them when playing.

No clue about anything like that. I just would want something that can be kept on nearly constantly without dying after one year.

It’s getting harder and harder to even find a TV that isn’t 4K. Especially in anything 55” or above. As others have said, HDR especially is well worth the upgrade.

I don’t know why anyone would get anything less than 4K if they were buying a new TV.

You should be able to find a 65” TCL 6-series “cheap”. And I had a TCL for 3+ years with zero issues.

Isn't tcl a no-name brand though? I've never actually heard of that brand beyond this forum. I'd rather an LG like I have, or some other name brand.

I'm just not convinced 4k is worth it. No one I know irl has a 4k tv yet. And I've been watching YouTube videos on it and most say 4k is good, but not that much better. That's it's better to get a quality 1080p hd tv than a cheap 4k. Moot though since I'm not getting a new tv anytime soon anyway...unless they send out another stimulus check.

RE:  the Alien:  Isolation GP quest.  It took me a few attempts and about 12 minutes total to get it done.  I checked on the GP quest a few times and it went up by 1/5 and then to 3/5 and then it eventually completed.

Also, use the flamethrower if you want a quick achievement.

EDIT - Now only if AMEM would work properly...

Exactly TDU was Forza Horizon exploring islands, great game.

TCL is a budget brand for sure but it’s certainly not a no-name brand. Not after the reputation it’s built over the past 3-4 years. They consistently get good reviews from places like Rtings and CNET as well.

Just throwing it out there that I played against Donken in the Gears Pop event over the weekend and he stomped me. I am not good at it in a PvP sense.

I'm still rolling with a 1080p plasma too and will be for the foreseeable future. It already saved me $200 by making it an easier choice to grab a series s instead of series x this gen. Since half the stuff I play will be smaller indie stuff as it leaves gamepass and the rest of the time I'll be back playing Morrowind again I doubt I'll be missing much.

Was TDU2 any good? I know the first one was great and I remember being excited for the second but then skipped it once the reviews came in and they said the handling was changed for the worse.
Tdu2 was pretty bad compared to the first one. But did have some improvements.

I felt forza horizon did everything better then tdu1 except island size and home ownership. In tdu1 you could own homes and explore them and invite your friends to them. Tdu1 also took forever to explore compared to horizon. The last race was grueling.

I really think 4K can be a major improvement for games. It's basically 4 times the pixel count. It depends on what games you do play, and I think often comes down to the art style, and how well it's implemented. If someone really can't tell they're either sitting too far away, have bad vision, or just don't care about difference. If you don't care, you don't care, but I'd say try more games, or even hook up your old consoles against you still have them and compare games that have been upgraded yourself.

I think some of the best examples of extremely noticeable differences on Xbox are actually the One X Enhanced 360 games, notably Fallout 3 and The Witcher 2. Witcher 2 here isn't even full 720p so didn't quite scale to 4K.

Lol, I didn’t even realize, I don’t look at the names at all, I played a ton of matches over the weekend. Just trying to clean up those last few achievements but not sure if I will before it closes down.

I didn’t really like that event, it was all about timing your big guys or the worm onto the heal platforms at the right time. I still think the game has to many flaws as far as, even now that I’m level 20, a lot of my units are only level 12-13, so I keep going against other level 20’s with units that are level 17ish. Makes it hard to even stand a chance, seems like whomever has the higher level units is most likely winning. I prefer games where you start on equal footing and it’s about player skill more then time played to level up or money spent to level up.

I actually like the left frame better in that witcher image. I prefer the slight fuzziness than the right side with harsher clear lines. Like I said I still have my S hooked up and play watch dogs legion on both (I'm still using my S more than the SX), not noticing any difference between the S and the SX graphics wise.

you might need glasses

So I've had my series x for a week now, and it's probably because my tv is an older 1080p plasma, but I'm really not seeing anything special with using it over my old xbox one s. Games loading faster is about it and that's just something I still don't really care about. There were a ton of "updates" to games I was regularly playing after I transferred stuff to the internal hd, but not seeing anything that's telling me I"m any better off by having this next gen console compared to my One S. Was excited to get it, but now feeling it's very Meh, and that I probably should've spend the money elsewhere.
I also had a plasma tv that couldn't even do native 1080p until recently (it was more than 10 years old and had some burnt in pixels by now)...but I still noticed a slight improvement...however since I upgraded to my new 4K OLED TV...the difference in quality is like day and night. Games like the Medium are looking fantastic on it...it also supports atmos vision and atmos dolby, as well as the 2.1 hdmi. upgrading your TV is the game changer here for the new console..

I've been holding off on pre-ordering in hopes of a punch card but will have to cave here shortly. And I thought it would be over 100 GBs so I'm pleasantly surprised lol
Isn’t the last preorder day the 16th or 15th? I was expecting a card Tuesday if there was going to be one.

I do wear contacts. The right pic looks like the sharp setting was turned up way too much. I'm weird, I know. I don't care for super sharp graphics.
Then you definitely don't need a 4k hdr tv, or even the series x. You might (seriously) just want to start working backwards....maybe a ps2 might be your best bet...lots of great fuzzy games.

Lost damn cause. I remember selling to people like you when I worked electronics department when dvds first came out. But it's going to break because it's thin!

The text in Outriders actually prompted me to finally call for an eye exam, apparently been putting it off too long. I can read it all, but not instantly in the flow of gameplay.

I wasn't too much of a fan of that event until I worked out a good team to take advantage of the zones. Made good use of the Savage Grenadier on the purple zones spamming nades Those Seeders were a pain when they'd last long enough to get fully recharged with the return of the healing zones.

Sorry I didn't get back on last night. I see you've created a secondary account to help with Horde. Just run the level 1 Brumak or Thunderland thumpers for a while and you'll max out an epic pin. Only 7 epic pins available from them (Kait, Reyna, Marcus, Fahz, HoD, DR-1 and E-hole) with 50 / 50 / 200 pins per run, so those will level faster. If we match up again, I can run a couple Hordes with my booster accounts to get you closer to the Never Go Alone achievement. Can also delete and recreate one of them to help you finish it off if no one else comes back / joins (or you could recreate your booster once you've finished the other achievements). You're also a bit further along with your Seriously progress than I am.

Nah that thin black text on the gray background in the mod descriptions is just impossible to read.

You gotta be trolling at this point.

Regarding the Series X upgrade on most games vs XB1X or lesser X1s, I tend to agree with Praxus that it’s not exactly mind blowing.

It’s good ... things are a little cleaner, a little faster, and I’m using an OLED so I can appreciate the boost ... but it’s not exceptionally exciting compared to something like the PS5 and the Spider-man upgrade. I think Microsoft will be the dominant US console this generation because I believe their backwards compatibility strategy coupled with recent studio acquisitions will give them a significant edge in a year or two.

However, if someone who owned a 1X felt the need to rush out and buy a Series X, I’d tell them there’s absolutely no reason to buy one now versus waiting until something like Halo Infinite or a true Series X exclusive comes out. Even if the Series X technically won’t have “exclusives” there should still be games that take advantage of its power. The problem right now is that nothing is such a exceptional upgrade from last gen that it justifies jumping through hoops to get one.

And I would definitely dissuade anyone from buying a Series S that owns an X1 if they think they’re getting a true next gen experience. I think people would see a boost from an original Xbox One or the One S, but as an X1X owner that upgraded ... it really feels like more of the same in the present moment. Yes, the upgraded games play better ... but it’s like upgrading your PC graphics card more than that traditional feel of buying a brand new, next gen console. I’m sure it will change in the next 6-10 months though.

Have you played Gears 5? That absolutely is as “exciting” as the Spider-Man upgrade on PS5. I have both consoles and actually think Gears 5 has the best graphics of any next gen upgrade.

I’d also say 120 FPS is a game changer. And the Series X has like triple the number of games that do 120.
