I'll wait for a final verdict from digital foundry before I get critical but it's gonna be pathetic if switch two is not at least has powerful as a Series S or PS4 pro when docked. Why the heck is it $449 if those older consoles are still more powerful?
Should’ve kept your Star Wars PS4

I tested my switch lite which had been factory reset. There’s no way to set it up and link a Nintendo account without the update. I wonder if you can even use the eshop without the update, but no way I can test that without my youngest sons OLED switch.
You can’t do anything online (including the eshop) until you install the update.

Kid wanted to play Stardew Valley with friends on a secondary Switch and had to update it to get online. She just then had to flip on the internet license.

Also.. if you don't update .. Will Nintendo send an email for invite to purchase the Switch 2 System?

I don't understand why you wouldn't update unless you're holding out for a hack, which go track down a V1.

FIGHTING EX LAYER ANOTHER DASH Full Package on sale, anyone play? Debating this or PC and I know PC is dead.

Yeah, that's pretty much the conclusion I came to last night with my lite. Thinking back through the last 8 years... you couldn't get into the eshop without updating once a new update was released. Of course this hasn't changed.

Could your kid launch the game at all or was it locked even before launching? That's pretty much all that's left for me to test. If you can't even do that, then there's no benefit to resisting this update.

I did reach out to my youngest son to not update his OLED and bring it home so I can test a few things. But I think the wall is pretty obvious and no matter how much Freeze Time may want to live up to their name, time moves forward.

Just tried a digital game on our 3rd Switch. Hadn’t updated it yet. This game is not an online game but it would not launch. Error code 2181-4007. A System update is required.

So yeah Freeze Time will not have any access to those other digital games unless he updates.

It's a hybrid.

Nintendo Store - Nintendo Switch 2 invite purchases starting to rollout (someone told me they were able to add despite getting no email invite)Check pages:Console buff.ly/4HfWChN
Bundle buff.ly/RxnMp20
GameCube controller (open to all NSO members on May 13) buff.ly/sImGrSt

To clarify, those who got selected to invite can buy the console right now. Don't wait for the email. If you're eligible, the store will allow you to buy. More invites will rollout so keep checking the store

Huge phone. My Pixel 8 is maybe half the size of my Switch OLED. How does that even fit in your pocket?
Your phone is literally almost the exact same size as mine. So no, your Pixel 8 is not "half" the size of your Switch OLED. Like I said, the Switch is barely bigger than a phone. That's why it's not as strong as a big brick tethered to a wall and a TV

I appreciate it. That's what I figured would happen. It's good to get confirmation.

So far... no on the bundle. I signed up for the non-bundle... but even that says no.

I'll keep the pages open and check later. Thanks for posting that.

Still an improvement from Reggie.

I haven't seen anybody anywhere mention that they got an email or that they were able to order it. So I wonder if the emails from Nintendo of America are going out later or last

I got an invite and tried to just order the Yunobo amiiba and get an error that I need a "main product".

Edit: You can't buy just accessories. You need a Switch 2 in cart to get anything else. Boo!

I've seen some mention it on reddit in the Nintendo Switch sub. FuzzmeisterJ above now too.

Still nothing for me and I registered within maybe the first hour of it going live. Nintendo says invites are good for 3 days so at least we get time. I went ahead and just set a daily alarm as a reminder to check my email (this will probably end up in my spam folder). So if it happens, I should at least have time to decide if I'm going through with it or not. I just got confirmation today that my house is indeed paid off 😎 ... so, financially there's no reason for me not to go ahead and at least lock one system down in case tariffs get crazy. I also want to see how my Japan account works with the new system and if there is a nice workaround for digital if we get hit here in the states with digital tariffs.

Anyone else having trouble logging into nintendo.com? It accepts my email and password. It shows my icon and name to confirm, but then on https://www.nintendo.com/us/store/ at the top right, it says "Log in / sign up." I press that and re-do the process. That means I can't add anything to my cart. I tried a second PC, phone, different browsers, and private mode. All same problem. Meanwhile, my two kids' accounts log in no problem.

Also, my.nintendo.com does show me logged in so I can collect points and redeem wallpapers, sweepstakes, etc.

It was doing that to me yesterday. I still was able to buy a game and it would log in. Today, everything seems to be working fine for me. It shows me logged in proper.

It will allow me to buy a digital game, and I can see my wishlist. But no dice on adding a random physical item to cart.

People are on the site buying the new console and there are a lot of accessories requiring Switch 2 to be in your cart before you can buy them. That may be messing with other things being purchased.

No invite for me either and my kid put a crazy amount of hours on the Switch between Stardew Vally and Splatoon 3.
We just got our state refund so I’m ready to spend it. Surprisingly we’re also getting a federal refund this year. But my husband refuses to submit electronically so who knows when we’ll get it, lol.

Millions of people already bought Kirby, Mario Party, and Zelda at full price, and preordered Mario Kart bundled with the system for $50. And millions of people will pay for the $10-20 upgrade to get the Switch 2 versions of the former three games

If people want to complain about Nintendo not dropping the price of their games then that's one thing, but these aren't $80 games. They're full priced old games getting some new paid expansions. It's no different than when Sony charges for PS4->PS5 game upgrades, they're just offering both the game and expansion in one package. And Nintendo doesn't care if nobody buys the physical versions, because they make a lot less money on those anyway

Btw, Kirby sold >7mil, Mario Party >6mil, TotK >21mil, and Mario Kart is a brand new game where the previous sold ~65mil. We have very different definitions of "second-tier" games

I wonder what it is you think you've said here? No flippin clue what point you thought you were making. Really weird way of unintentionally agreeing with most of what I said, disingenuously responding to other parts, citing random sales figures as if we didn't already know, and making an all-around abrasive reply. I bet you I'm one of the only people here likely to get physical Mario Kart for $80 and that nearly everyone else goes for the bundle version, because it's significantly cheaper. "Millions of people are just going to get the $10 upgrades, also Nintendo doesn't care about how many physical games they sell." good one. I guess that's why they double-dip selling re-releases during every new console cycle.

Were you going for "full antisocial" or "willfully disingenuous" with these replies?

I guess a person can't weave multiple thoughts together or else the special needs folks get confused and infuriated. Having two thoughts in your head at the same time is difficult. Same with hyperbole used as a rhetorical device.

Make a good post some day, Kyle. Good chance I won't see it tho. Considering the quality of your previous dozen on here.

I was looking for a gif where two guys were comparing sizes... but... this one caught me.

Still no invite. But that's fine. If it happens, I'll make the decision then... though I'm leaning towards just doing it.

I played a bunch of Gotcha Racing 2nd last night. It's currently $1.99. It is pretty fun and has up to four players. The cars have special powers that can be offensive (hitting other cars with lighting, spin attack) or more strategic (a boost that lets you fly past others but then you have a period where you lose 20 points of speed while the boost recharges. Changing controls before you play to the second option where drift is R makes a world of difference. The default is the ole tap breaks and then hammer gas to drift which worked in a lot of old racing games but I couldn't get it to activate even once. But tapping R, every time it works. For $2, I think it was well worth getting. Something good to have digital for a family game night or when I just want something quick to play.

sorry to interrupt the gif fight but I have a question on Nintendo membership.

I have 3 people on my console and I have a family membership. Do I really need a family membership? we never play online at the same time.

I think Pokemon Unite might be the only thing this might affect? like if Person B and Person C have their own unite accounts, do they both need to have Nintendo online to play?

Family membership is so each person can play online with their own profile and have their own saves backed up to the cloud. Even with just one system, if there's something they play online with their separate saves... you'll need the family membership.

Guess I’ll be looking for a deal on a family membership.

Okay Nintendo, you have two days to write up a statement about how you are re-lowering the price of your Switch 2 accessories back to just overpriced and not insanely overpriced.

Initially it was at 20% before Trump first started messing around. Then it went up and down and up and down... we just need them to go left right left right b a and start and we'll get our thirty lives.

Of course this is China... the Switch 2 is made in Vietnam and there's still a big spike on the horizon with them. So I can't imagine Nintendo moving any prices until things are settled and not just on a pause.

There's also the flat 10% tariffs that is still in place for every other countries beside China. Price do not drop back to pre-tariffs level immediately and some case they do not return to pre-tarrifs level at all.

This is what I was hinting at. Nintendo claimed they raised due to tariffs, if that was the case when they go away or lower they could adjust their prices a bit. Nintendo will not be lowering the price either way.
