Catan is pretty easy to pick up, but it's not 2 player friendly (3 - 5 players).

Personally, for $1300, I'd get a 15" Sager with an i7 (Ivy Bridge/3rd gen) with a 670m. I've never owned a Sager, but have heard a lot of good things. Also, if you're going this route it might be worth it to get the thermal compound upgrade.
