You compare equipment by name? Wow, first time I've ever heard anyone do that. As typical with RPG games you need to pay attention to stats, it's crucial. If you find this troublesome, perhaps RPG games are not your type of game.

Weapon condition plays an important part in damage. If your repair skill is low, sell the ones that have lower condition for caps.

As for Oblivion, they had way to many ideas that were poorly implemented (leveling up with level scaling? What's the point?)...
I don't remember if it was Mech Warrior 4 I played on PC but one of the Mech games had horrid keyboard controls.
I recommend the Armored Core games for PS2, Zone of the Enders I & II also PS2 and Mech Assault I & II for Xbox.

My then girlfriend enjoyed playing Zelda: Four swords Adventures for the gamecube, I find that it got boring fairly quickly but maybe I just set my standards a little high (considering it was made for co-op play).
