General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
    On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.

What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2026. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

Yeah as mentioned that Quest headset has been known for quite a while. Sounded originally like it was really just Meta wanting to have a model with Xbox branding, probably just to try to grab another segment of the market. It’s “inspired by Xbox”. Not like some huge new venture. As mentioned, there already is an Xbox app for the Quest.

Went to see 28 Years Later tonight. It seems to be pretty polarizing but I thought it was phenomenal and can’t wait for the next film in January. It’s probably the most fucked up mainstream movie you’ll ever see.

Oh, I know I am a masochist! Problem was my rig at that time was too weak. Watched a decent chunk of the game (at my rich friend house) and was like well why play it now? Even with new computer I bought a year later. Unfortunate series of events lol. Oh, well so goes life.

I mean let's be honest so far my 4090 has been doing a lot of heavy lifting since I bought it. Hidden Cats, Spot the Difference and solitaire.

Hell, my GPU was surprised I threw Ravenlok at it.

was there a recent small update to the Xbox One dashboard? It used to be that I just select a game and press A to play/load directly. Now when I press A the game takes me to a summary page about the game, with information about my Achievements, time played, DLC info, etc... and I would then have to select Play button and press A again to finally play my game. This double pressing A button to play my games is killing me lol

An update that rolled out earlier this week.

Go to Settings -> Personalization -> Game and Apps and go to the right most pane. Uncheck where you don't want that to keep happening.

I may mention that I played GamePass because the game being discussed is on it but I don’t go over there talking shit about PlayStation. Or just saying GamePass had gotten better when someone said it was was getting more and more expensive for a worse service.

But I own a PS5. I like my PS5. I have no reason to talk shit about it.

Pretty rich acting like I go to the PS thread just to talk about GamePass.

I don't think we should be dunking on any of our community (Except maybe those that are aggressively stupid/obnoxious to the point that most of the regulars blocked them). I would suggest blocking people if you don't want to leave.

I think most of us who have been here long term have "loved" (maybe just preferred) Xbox at some time, even if that isn't the case any longer. If you like the direction they are headed, great. I don't think criticizing them is a problem, they've made a lot of stupid decisions over the years. These new devices, ROG and Quest, are whatever. Harmless, but pointless.

I think GamePass is a bad value, for myself. At least they finally are releasing a lot of games, but they just aren't getting enough that are in my day-one buy list. The only one lately was Expedition 33. I can see it is a good value if you are interested in living on the whims of the current library, but the regular price hikes will likely make it too expensive eventually.

I don't like the shift to multiplaform as a hardware buyer, and I think a lot ofbpeople feel that way, so its led to negative discussion here. The Series X will probably be my last Xbox console unless the open platform box is both real and great. Otherwise it just makes sense to move to PS6 and play everything on one system.
 
Downloading Firebreak on my PC kinda reminds me why I don't play games on launch on XBox just that a day after downloading it, it's asking me to download the whole ass game again. When I tell XBox I want the PC to have some of the console experience this is not what I meant.

Also Gears Ultimate has been beaten with my friend on the console. It's kinda impressive how much bits of jank there are in that game like achievements not popping up or it just dumbing the difficulty down to normal with no warning in the campaign. With that said, still fun to revisit after nearly a decade and now I won't have to revisit Reloaded for a decade as well!
 
I don't "hate" Xbox at all. I actually preferred Xbox over PlayStation during the OG Xbox and 360 eras. What I hate is how Microsoft thinks that a rental service is now their sole purpose to exist in the gaming space. I'm pretty sure they would even tell you themselves at this point that unless you want game pass to be the future of gaming that you are better off buying a PS5 or building a PC instead.

It's also not growing at the pace they need it to hence why they are now price gouging everything else ($450 1TB Series S? Really, Phil?) How does someone on the outside looking in even enter the Xbox ecosystem at this point? Is there honestly a single soul out there who is going to spend $730 on a Series X? How many people are seriously playing AAA games through the cloud on a Samsung TV app?

Microsoft's "vision" for gaming is so bad right now. I can't see how anyone can like it aside from the few people who still have years of free game pass stacked up. For everyone else they are offering hands down the worst value in gaming right now. We know for a fact tariffs did not force them to raise hardware prices so quickly or else Sony and Nintendo would have done the same.

They also immediately announced all their future games will cost $80 starting with TOW2 just because Nintendo charged $80 for a single game. No other publisher has done this. They did it because they want to make game pass look more artifically "enticing" even if it kills their own software sales. I'm convinced Microsoft doesn't want us to buy their hardware or software anymore. They just want us to subscribe to their dumb rental service.
 
Played a bit of ReMatch with some friends last night and had an absolute blast with it. The game itself is janky and definitely needs some patching to fix things up. The game seemingly crashes a lot. Lobbies and party support is pretty lackluster and there's no crossplay yet (although they say it's coming soon). But the gameplay itself is really fun. Im assuming it's probably not as fun if you're in a group with randoms as we're finding communication pretty important but the gameplay itself is really enjoyable

I have like $600 or something to use on the Microsoft store just by playing games and using the Bing app everyday and that's after me using a lot of the points to get Game Pass. They've also sold Series X for as low as $350. I've gotten to play so many awesome games that come out day one or that I might have otherwise not played if not for Game Pass. I also love the quick resume feature of up to six games. Sony and Nintendo don't even attempt that with their measly one.

For people who bought in when they were having firesale prices on hardware a couple of years ago, stacked Game Pass and engage with the rewards system every day it's fine.

Right now what the average consumer sees is a $400-450 PS5 with a free copy of Black Ops 6 vs a $600 XSX with no game included. It's an unsellable product. And most people probably don't even know MS rewards exists, let alone take the time to use it every day. I used to use it myself, but now that I'm able to get all the overtime I want I rather just work a couple extra hours for good money instead of using that time to grind pennies.
 
There were so much I like about Xbox early on, cloud saving, Auto-HDR, and backward comparability. But now they are not using Auto-HDR on new games, closing the door on backward comparability, getting rid of disc release for first party, and losing performance advantage compare to PS5 Pro.

Not sure where the disc-less, stand-less, PS5 Pro fits into this conversation of value/performance for the consumer. I like the PS, NSW and Xbox for what they are(you take the good, you take the bad…). To say that the PS5 Pro was anything but a disappointing cash grab would be disingenuous.

I think it's disingenuous to call a 2TB PS5 Pro a bad value when a 2TB XSX costs $30 more. It's actually a solid value when you can't build a comparable PC in that price range. Sony's hardware pricing is honestly reasonable right now.

I'm sure the vast majority of Xbox users don't even look at the reward system.

I don't know about quick resume. I'm fine with the 10-15 second load on most games.

Hey man. I would not let anyone get to you on this forum. We all get heckled on here one time or another for saying something that somebody else disagrees with. Everyone has their opinions I suppose.

I can tell you are a very enthusiastic person and want to share your enthusiasm with others which is commendable to me. Some people won't accept this optimism though and may want to bring you down if they can. I would just say don't let people who disagree with you push you away from something you love. I recommend just blocking the people that try and bring you down here and continue enjoying gaming and sharing your viewpoint. The benefit of quick resume isn’t so much that it loads up faster, although that can be nice. What’s great is that more than one game can stay suspended at a time. You can leave an unsaved game running and switch over to another game or app and still come right back to where you were in the first app. If I’m playing Hades and need to switch over to Netflix because it’s dinner time and we want to watch tv while we eat, Hades will still be right where it was when I left. If I try that on PS5, Hades would load up from the title screen again. It’s a great QoL feature

Microsoft‘s price increases were a cash grab also btw. The PS5 Pro is the most underwhelming mid generation upgrade there has been.
 
Unfortunately, all the major console makers are doing some sketchy cashgrab things. I don't know if it's because they see a downturn in gaming in the future and are trying to get while the getting is good or what but the big 3 are all going a little crazy on pricing and bad value.

Because it seems like most consumers will just buy it anyway. There was a big outcry when Nintendo announced the price of switch 2 and the games and accessories. Yet, it's already sold over 3 million so that means that either there are 3 million die hard Nintendo fans that will pay any price or it means that consumers will buy it if they want it regardless of price. Jury is still out on how well Switch 2 will be selling 6 months to a year from now.

I don't know nor do I care how much the two Xbox series consoles and PlayStation 5 has sold but obviously it's enough to where these companies are still in business and are still selling consoles and games etc.

Nintendo always has a lot of haters every time they launch a new system. Those people would have found something else to complain about if it wasn't the price. Most of them never had any intention of purchasing a Nintendo system no matter what.

Xbox hardware has not been selling well at all for the past couple years. Everyone mentions how it has sold over 30 million units yet ignore how it is only estimated to have sold roughly 2 million units worldwide in 2024 and that's going to be much lower this year after the price hikes. It's doing much much worse than the Xbox One was and that was already seen as a huge underperformer.

The future outlook for Xbox hardware is not good. I would not feel confident making purchases on the Xbox Store at this point.
 
For me quick resume has nothing to do with the loading time, it has to do with the fact that I can have three or four games that go right to where I left off. Don’t have to worry about save points, etc. It’s been a huge game changer for me and one of my favorite things about this gen.

From my point of view, I was stung by the multiplatform change. But now it’s making more sense and bringing in MS more revenue that they will hopefully continue to reinvest in their studios so we can get more quality first party games. I honestly think the whole concept of exclusives is old school console warrior crap that needs to die anyway. I play games because I enjoy them. Not because they’re on one console or another.

And between first party games like Doom: The Dark Ages and Oblivion to third party games like Expedition 33 and Blue Prince, I don’t have even close to enough time to play everything coming to GamePass. People can crap on it all they want but GP has been fantastic for me the last year and the line up for the rest of the year and 2026 has me excited. MS first party has a lot of good stuff in the pipeline.

I have questioned some of Microsoft’s choices and still do but now that the dust has settled, I don’t think I’ve ever been as satisfied as an Xbox gamer as I am now. Just my thoughts and others are entitled to their opinion. No need to shit on mine.

I love a lot of first party games on PlayStation like Astro Bot and will continue to play those too. But Xbox has been an incredible value for gaming to me this gen.

And to clarify something, I’ve never said I didn’t favor Xbox. I do favor it for a lot of the consumer friendly things they’ve done and GamePass. BUT I don’t go crapping in the PlayStation thread just because I’ve been gaming on Xbox more. I go there to hear about deals and news too.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense to me why people who seem to actually hate Microsoft and Xbox post on this thread. Why? Just to antagonize others?

I’ll just be using the ignore feature more and move on. If you don’t like what I have to say, please ignore me too instead of being a prick with dumb ass comments.

And yeah, I really am fed up with a lot going on in this world so I don’t need that kind of shit in a hobby that I use to get away from things for a while.

I have brought up Series X 6 games suspended/quick resume on the PS forum here and other sites and have mostly gotten comments like, "I don't need 6 games open at once," "my ADHD couldn't comprehend that," "why would someone need to have 6 games open at a time?" "Bro, it takes like 30 seconds to load up a different game so it's not a big deal" etc. Yet if PS5 had that feature, people would be commenting on how awesome it is. I swear, it's so difficult for a lot of people to be objective and just realize other systems do cool things and just because you don't own it doesn't mean it's worthless. I was chatting with some guys that told me if a game is not on a Sony system, it's not worth playing.

I think my real issue is that when I did try to use the feature early on, I was having a bunch of issues with gams between patches, server reconnect, or outright bugs caused by it and it turned me off of the feature. I'm also paranoid about it fucking up saves.
 
Almost never have issues with quick resume. Usually problems are from online games but honestly can’t remember the last time I’ve even had an issue with it. It’s been fantastic for me. Love it in games where there are long periods between save points especially as I don’t have to replay all the way back to the last save.

Biggest issue is when I go to play on PS5 I sometimes forget that it isn’t available to there.

I always have issues with larger games. Forza Horizon I get so many weird results if I dare to use QR with it. From having to redo quests, to the sound just vanishing when playing, and after playing a resumed game long enough the game just crashes. Smaller games usually work but even with that I notice a lot of times (maybe 1 out of 10 times) I go to resume one of those games it starts fresh as if it was closed out.

Too unreliable for me to use for games I care about my progress in but most indie games I have usually sit in there waiting for me.

My issue is Bloons TD 6 lol sometimes quick resume turns to a crash. Then I spend ten minutes trying to get back into game while it crashes over and over!
 
Forza and MLB The Show are the two that always gave my quick resume fits. It's great as a predominantly single player gamer but it does seem to struggle with games that server connect to update in-game data.
