*cough* It apparently used to be 1 cent through Amazon and now has been raised to $1.25 from what I gather from the OP(s) *cough*

Is there something cheap about the quality of these as well? I mean will you notice a considerable drop in picture quality compared to a Monster Cable or something?

there is no such thing as a "quality" digital signal cable (like hdmi). The moster cables will have the same picture quality as a $5 cable from monoprice. You are just paying for the name.

Have any of you ever coughed so much that you puked?

Alternatively, have you ever drinken orange juice and then puked? You get a nice citrus taste if you do.

Sush! this thread is about spasmodic contractions of the thoracic cavity!

Yes, I have coughed so much that I've thrown up. I've also hawked up fleghm in an attempt to clear my throat, and wound up with little chunks of barf.

In fact, right now I do have a cold. It's pretty nasty, I think I've blew out at least a couple litres of snot just today alone.

So, this isn't an incredible deal? Either way, there isn't anything cheaper up here, and I can get it for 10 dollars shipped. So its mine.

Thats all I wanted to know. Went ahead and got one for my PS3.

Now the price is $.92 (One of the merchants is selling it for this price). I think I will bite on this for my PS3 that I bought yesterday.

I went ahead and bought these for 1 cent from one of the merchants and shipping is $4.98 from that specific one so I just got these for 5 bucks which is hilarious because when I was at the store I got my PS3 from the cheapest HDMI cables they had were $25 and I told the clerk that I would be able to find some for less then $10.

would it be so terrible for sony to package ps3 w/ one... i mean they are so darn cheap.... couldn't believe when i needed one and went to the store cheapest one i could find in CC/EB/BestBuy was 50 bucks... of course i went to the internet... what is with no Brick and Morter stores selling this at an even reasonable price?

*CRANK* Wrong!

There is, in fact, a difference between Monster cables and monoprice cables. There are better cables out there, as well. It's the amount they can transfer over certain distances without any errors. That's how they test HDMI cables (reviewers). Monoprice cables aren't futureproof (120Hz and 10-bit @ 1080p, for example), and in some cases, neither are Monster.

But in a gaming perspective and/or for short distances (6ft or less), any old HDMI cable will work. I myself own a 6ft Ferrite HDMI cable from monoprice.com. :bouncy:
I have drank orange juice and thrown up...It sucked because it burned
True that!

I ordered hdmi cables yesterday for 1.24.....for the ps3. now i'm waiting quietly for them to ship :(

Actually, for Sony which is losing money on PS3 left and right wouldn't be smart enough to pack in something that simple unlike with 360 that comes with a composite and component cable packed in together for HD out the box.

The reason behind B&M stores charging so much is because they know that the products that you are buying that require this cable are expensive so they think if you are spending that much for one product to utilize its full potential you need to spend even more money which is stupid but that's how they are.

Plus stores make almost no profit off video game systems and printers. Thats why USB cables cost $20-30, while the stores cost is only around $1. They need to make profit off something.

Wrong! It is an all or nothing deal with digital cables. You will know if you get a bad cable because you won't see or hear anything. Nothing is "future proof", so your point is null.

*cough*

Orange juice then throwing up is bad.

but orange juice after brushing your teeth is bad as well. try it sometime.

Apparently, you people throw up a lot. It's a very rare occasion for such an event to occur for me.

I can comment on drinking orange juice and brushing your teeth. Not a good combination. I rather enjoy eating a Peppermint Patty and then drinking milk though. What a rush! XD

Drinking milk and throwing up is disgusting. Probably one of the worst things you can drink before throwing up.

Now chocolate and then throwing up is delicious. Chocolate flavored puke...yummy.

I'm right.

Take the word "digital" as the flow of electrons. Those ones and ohs that zoom to your display. Now, picture them as waves, which is easier to comprehend. If there is too much information and the cable cannot handle it with exact timing, then you will see ARTIFACTS. Point in case.

Don't buy a $5-7cheaper HDMI cable for your new HDTV and expect the same High Definition Quality! What you pay is what you get!

Ironic?

Yeah. I'm totally kicking myself for buying a $6 monoprice cable, because ARTIFACTS are everywhere, completely ruining my game. I should've listened to the Best Buy employee... :p

:wall: Did you read my post? You would have to be blind not to see artifacting, I consider that all or nothing. If you do see artifacting it is a bunk cable and should be returned to the retailer you bought it from. Like I stated this has nothing to do about "future proofing". The same way the hundreds of dollars I spent on Svideo cables in the 90's and so on and so forth. Analog cables are a different story but I will say it again, it is all or nothing with HDMI.

Did you read that at all? It doesn't matter for short cables.
And, I OWN A MONOPRICE CABLE.

Read this then. http://digitaltvdesignline.com/showArticle.jhtml?printableArticle=true&articleId=199900985

" d) If your cable can't deliver this bandwidth, you'll still get a picture, but with obvious picture artifacts (flaws). "

This isn't an all-or-nothing thing unless the flaw occurs in the HDCP loops of the wave. If a few 0s and 1s cause picture or audio artifacts, then you will see noticable artifacts on your HDTV.

A good way to see this is, if you have a monitor capable of QXGA or w/e it's called (2048x1***), find the longest and cheapest cable. Run a 10-bit signal through it at whatever refresh rate you want, and make the picture just a solid pattern or color. You can try a video if you want.

Of course, HDMI/DVI can't handle that resolution at all. That's why they have dual link DVI (more bandwidth). Please, If you care to read, then read those two links I provided. Common misinterpretation of digital signals are that you get the whole thing or nothing. That is false. Most of the time artifacts will be too small to notice, but if you're looking for them and using cheap-long cables, you'll see them. Even at 60Hz 8-bit 1080p (what the cable is meant for, the current-times HDMI).
