10 Free HD-DVD/Blu-Ray Movies w/ Purchase of LG Super Blu!

Its a piece of crap. Avoid this junk.
Buy an A2 for $300 and get 5 free by mail
Buy a PS3 for $500 and get 5 free by mail.
Profit = $400 and you get two MUCH better players.
With a few exceptions (box sets/TV shows/preorders). The player itself is pretty high, but pretty cool if you want a single player that plays both formats and a get amount of movies to start off with...
Wow, when you said "pretty high" I figured $800 tops, not $1200. Craziness.

Well the difference with those is that the selection of movies you get to chose from is pretty crappy. But yeah, like I said, it's for people who want to
convenience of having both players in a single box...

Samsung has a dual-format player coming out in a couple months that will be at most $600. It'll also fully support HD DVD and it's interactive menus. The LG player just plays the main movie on an HD DVD.

Ok, so take the $400 you saved and buy 20 movies of your choice then.
This machine is a POS. Avoid it.

Agreed, you could even go this route:

Toshiba HD-A2 $300 w/ 5 free via mail
Panasonic DMP-BD10AK $600 w/ 5 free via mail + 5 free in box =

Both formats with fully dedicated players, 15 free movies, and still a $300 savings.

Just curious as to why a couple of you say it's a piece of junk? Are there technical problems with it? Does it break down easily?

it is not hd-dvd compliant -- it cannot do the interactive features or any special features for that matter. It can only play the movie. That's why the player says "multi-blu" and doesn't have the hd-dvd logo on it.

it is not bluray compliant, but what bluray player is?? the specs change almost every other day.

For $1200 it isn't even compliant with one of the formats..now you see why it's a piece of junk?

I'd be shocked if more than 1,000 of these units have been sold.

Not to mention after October 31st this may not be able to play newer Blu-Ray discs either. Its a POS, avoid it!

BD1.2 spec discs will play on the older spec blu-ray players. You'll basically just be able to play the movie and access the normal special features through the menu. Stuff like picture-in-picture commentary and the web-enabled stuff won't be accessible on the older blu-ray players.

Great. so you have a player that can't access everything. Avoid this everyone. Avoid.

What's really funny is that there are currently no blu-ray players that can physically support the new standard and none have been announced yet. The PS3 could possibly support the 1.2 standard if there's enough CPU power left to decode another video and audio stream. It also has an ethernet port for the web-enabled stuff and the HDD for persistent storage (1.2 spec standalone players need 1gb of flash ram onboard).

Yes, its been discussed multiple times in our HD vs. BR thread. The PS3 should be 'safe' though as it accounts for atleast 90% of all Blu-Ray players in homes.
