I just got an email from gamestop having a coupon for $10 of a used gamecube. I don't know who wants a gamecube, but here it is :)
What are the odds of getting a used GC with the port for the component cable at a gamestop? Is there any easy way to pick one out?
I got one last week, with the port, it is hard to find component cables for it though.. My husband got them though.
I usually use cotton balls and rubbing alcohol, since it also works to clean and/or disinfect the crap I sometimes end up buying. And, leaking batteries? Looks like someone didn't at least check the damned thing before taking it in, huh?
brother one time there was no receiver and a second time, the left thumbstick had the plastic cover torn completely off. other times ive seen them without battery covers or literally covered in brown goop (i hope). this of course means that whoever traded them in got hit with a refurbished fee, but they were put out on the floor right away at regular price. translation, refurbished fee's mean more profit on broken stuff!!!!

Damnit... my wife says no more game consoles. I only need to a GC to roundout my collection from recent generations.

LOL I'm amazed by how many people fall for that refurb fee nonsense, when more than half the time, they simply throw the stuff out on the floor without cleaning it up. And sometimes, if they're super busy, they even do so without testing them.

I wish I could figure out which day they'd be super busy, so then I could swap in my one PS2 I have which has a bad clasp on the motherboard(the part that holds the controller ports cable in place) and a burnt out memory card port on the first player side. The parts would cost me about $30ish to fix it and it seems no one wants the damned thing as-is for $15 plus shipping.

I'm just glad I paid LESS than that for it, since I needed the parts I picked from it for MY PS2.

Damn I'm enticed! is it reasonable to buy this just for a few games? (Twilight, Prime1 & 2?) That's pretty much all I want to play.
I think you have to look for the ones with the special port. though you only have about 10% chance of getting one.
I was not even looking for one with the port. Got it home opened the sealed white box and checked the back, and it does have one.

prime 1 and 2 make the purchase worthwhile by themselves

I once saw a kid trading in his Gamecube. The system was covered in goo (??) and the round part on top of the lid was broken off. It had deep scatch marks all around the unit and on the controller.

He traded it in for a year-old version of Madden.

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

(The moral of the story: inspect the merchandise before you leave the parking lot.)

Edit: Don't take this as an indictment against buying a used GC. There are so many awesome games that's it's a worthwhile investment even if you have to scrub the damn thing when you get it home. Awesome games off the top of my head:

Animal Crossing
Pikmin 1 & 2
Super Mario Sunshine (ignore the haters)
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (ignore the haters again)
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition & OoT/Master Quest
Ikaruga
Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat (to preview the awesomeness of the fellow EAD Tokyo-developed Super Mario Galaxy)
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
Cubivore
Metroid Prime 1 & 2
Resident Evil 1, Zero, and 4
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
F-Zero GX
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Puyo Pop Fever
Luigi's Mansion (lousy launch title, but a worthy time-waster now)
Pac-Man Vs.
Worms Blast

Interesting. Though 10% chance is still alot, many people who bought the first GC's with the port will buy a Wii, while selling the GC (with the port), thus your chance of getting a GC with the port increases.
lol...GameCube for $30... that's the same amount for a used Super Smash Bros Melee from GS/EB
HEHE, this is cheaper than Mario Kart Ds. (which i wanna get)
lol...GameCube for $30... that's the same amount for a used Super Smash Bros Melee from GS/EB
Wow. That's the one problem with collecting for the cube: The system may be cheap, but everything else can be kind of pricey, and is getting more expensive by the day. From the component cables to the Game Boy Player to the controller to the games (see SSBM, MK: DD, Ikaruga), it can get a little high really quick. Heck, I just took a look at eBay to see what my unopened official Spice color controller is worth. It was eye-opening.

hmm. i hated the gamecube when i owned it for a year back in its heyday (before RE4) but hell id pay $30 for a Genesis/SNES let alone a Gamecube.

Now to find some games worth playing....

I have a Wii. I sold my GC for $55 in cash, but I'm tempted to get another GC because I still have 10 or 15 GC games. Plus I tempted to buy 4 of 'em and 4 BRoadband adapters and 4 copies of MarioKart:DD.

I'll be getting one today... either a black or platimum one. My blue GameCube at launch after all of these days is starting to crap out while i'm playing a game... and that isn't cool. So i'll be picking one up today if all goes well so I can resume my GB Player... playing.
hmm, should i get one just for the gameboy player, even though I already have a GB SP, a Wii and a DS?
Yeah, the GB Player is pretty cool. I love it. Not to mention if you have a GCN/GBA connector you can use ur GBA/GBA SP as a controller. :D

Man, I'm afraid my GameCube is gonna crap out on me right after this coupon expires. That would make me mad. It makes loud clicking noises when it's reading a disc sometimes... is this a sign of imminent crapping? heh. I've owned the GameCube since around when it launched...

Seriously? Man, I'm really considering getting a new one then...

I've got a Wii, but I like the GC for the GameBoy player.

Just got back from EB, he scanned it and then tried to type it in and said it doesn't work. Maybe it starts a certain day? =/

Did he try entering the code?

Yea first he tried to scan it and it didn't come up and then he tried to enter it and said it doesn't work. Although it looked like he wasn't quite sure what he was doing. Hopefully he messed up or something, maybe someone else can confirm it works.

It works, the only issue these coupons have ever had is when the first "$10 off a 360 game 24.99 and over" wouldn't stack with the EDGE card. You just got a retarded cashier. I hope you threw some glitter around.

Gamecube is still worth owning even if you have a Wii, one reason being: Gameboy player. You can play all gameboy classic, color and gameboy advance games on the big screen and It's totally worth it.

However, if you don't own a Wii or aren't interested in getting one till they drop around the same price, I can recommend the following exclusive games (based on gamerankings, and some not)

1) Metroid Prime 1+2
2) Resident Evil 4
3) Zelda: Wind Waker
4) REMake and RE0
5) Smash Brothers Melee
6) Pikmin 1+2
7) Animal Crossing
8) Metal Gear Remake
9) Both Baiten Kaitos (underate but you have to appreciate RPGs)
10) Luigi's Mansion (severely underated)

It also had some good third party titles but that won't mean too much to you if you own a PS2 or XBox (which 90% of the time had the best versions, graphics/framerate and online enhancements).

For $30 a Gamecube is a steal.

Hmm, even though I do have a wii, im very interested in playing wind waker which is so hard to find(could have got it for $10, but is it worth it?) and I'll get Metroid prime from my cousin.

Wind Waker looks great especially with the cell shading, and it plays great to boot. Nice succesor to OOT, my only complaints were it was too easy and the sailing was tedious/boring. I'd give it a low 9 It was worth the time I put into it.

Link's Awakening? That's the original Gameboy one right? For an 8 bit, monochromatic game I thought it looked pretty good. I need to find Link's Awakening DX again. That's a game I never should've sold.

It's just a regular GameCube with a removable skin. You got the skin for pre-ordering Gale of Darkness (or by buying the bundle that was out).

Picked one up tonight along with Paper Mario, Viewtiful Joe and Metroid Prime. Thanks blackbird3216 for the coupon!

Picked up a black one today for $28 using my Edge card... also got Metroid 1 & 2 for the GB Player. The controller I got has a sticky Y button (anyone know how to make it... less sticky?) other than that, it works like a charm.

I thought the edge card did not work on hardware.

There was a really cruddy GC at one store that scared the bejeezus out of me. Still debating if I should track one down.

Is Freeloader 1.06b a no-go on new Cubes? I posted this related question in the Gamecube thread if anyone has an answer. No one visits there much unfortunately. Thank you.

It doesn't work with Freeloader 1.06b. Picked one up to test and it's a negative for me. Shows the "Disc Cannot Be Read" error when it boots up. Otherwise it works fine with US game discs.

Crap! :bomb:

Well, you could bring it back and simply ask them exchange it for one with the component outlet. :p
