I got this in the mail but I am pretty sure everyone can use it.

Here is what you do...

1. If you know someone with a 12 month membership, no free 2 month trial stuff. It also has to be activated.

2. Now, either you can do this or they can.

3. Go to www.xboxlive-friends.com

4. Fill out the information. You will need to have your gamertag and email and the other person's gamertag and email.

It is limited to the amount of times you can use this though. Sort of wierd the way it is pronounced. So the person that has refered their "buddy" can get up to two $10 rebates.

This will only work for the people that got the packet. They have the email adresses stored.

No Bigman, its real. I'm looking at the packet right now. In it, it discusses Xbox Live NExt:

Teams; Developer Support for integrating team/clan functionality into games.

Competitions: Easily build diff types of comps into titles that can be created and administered by the publisher and/or users.

MSN Alerts and Messenger Configuration: Invitation and Presence based alerts and a new Xbox/MSN MEssenger Tab with user contextual info.

Title Managed Online Storage: Provides user profile data storage along with a simple way for titles to dynamically manage game influencing data on the fly.

Codenamed "Tsunami"

BBB: Were u a beta tester?

Not sure what JK2k3 is talking about, but it looks fake to me. A well done site, but fake none the less.

If it was really MS doing it I would think:
a) There would be ads for it ALL OVER the place.
b) It would be part of the main xbox page.
c) You would probably need to log in with your passport.
d) I doubt they would ever do it like this in the first place, they would just add a spot for a NEW member to say who refered them.

On top of it all:

That doesn't look like MS to me.

Oh my god, f u! I was the guy that got all those stupid codes that saved gamers like tons of money on TRU.com why would I post a fake site. It is all legit.

The only explanation that why I got it is that I signed up on the xbox.com site to see who on my friends list is online and stuff. Pretty simple stuff either way.

I'm not saying you are making anything up, I could be wrong, it just looks off to me. It could very well be 100% legit, but I know for now I am not going to do it and figured I should post what strikes me as odd about the deal.

This place is hosted by Rackspace, not Microsoft. It's on a Rackspace server with the domain on Rackspace nameservers.

Don't believe me? Run it through whois.sc or network-tools.com .

It sounds like a spam scam. Yet, the harsh defense of the site either sounds like somebody trying to save face, somebody who has an interest in the site's success, or simply somebody who isn't leaving themselves enough room to be wrong.

I would be interested as to what mcc.com is all about, though.

The Xbox rep I talked to gave me the standard reply of "I'll send this to the proper department, thank you for your report on this"

It's fake. I fell victim to it, it was very well done, but if you are thinking about posting your info, DON'T.

IT IS A FAKE. I just hope I don't get spammed to hell.

Okay, if someone wants to host the pictures I will scan the entire thing for everyone. Also Xbox reps know s---. I work at Toys R Us in the videogame department and had to tell the Microsoft Xbox rep during the fall that Halo 2 got delayed. They don't know anything that Microsoft doesn't tell them. It is actually very sad because I would have thought he would have known this stuff.

guys I got a packet from MS, it has cards so that you can sign up friends to xbox live and get a rebate. Xboxlive-friends.com is a real site.

:| IT'S NOT A FAKE!!! I got the same packet from microsoft. It's real.

Hm. I've still been had.. you know by myself and that rep. Whatever.

FWIW, just because Microsoft sponsors something doesn't mean they will host it. There have been quite a few promotions on the developer side of things that is tied to Microsoft but run by some other company.

For example, back in early 2003 there was a promotion going on where if you bought an MSDN subscription or Visual Studio .NET 2003 you got a free Pocket PC. Another company ran the promotion and the only thing Microsoft did was link to it on their site.

Right, but this site is claiming to be a Microsoft site; there's a copyright notice at the bottom of the page. A first-party Microsoft contest that's not on a Microsoft hosted server, with a domain name purchased by some guy in California? I don't buy it for a second.

Dont' forget, guys. Just because you might have some sort of packet doesn't mean that hte offer is actually valid.

Good luck if this is legitimate, but there's way to many giant red flags waiving like crazy right now for me to even consider this.

My guess: it's a ploy to collect email addresses for spamming purposes.

does anyone want to host the scan pictures of the packet? I can email them all to you if you want. It is legit. It may have only been given to people who are part of Microsoft's Xbox Retail Team. I told you MS reps know dog poop.

Listen people.. you are hearing this from me:

Brought you the ENTIRE KB Toys mark down list, scans of every page.. THe first, the oringial KB Markdown list.

And BBB: A person who brought us teh TRS Codes. Its disgusting that the people who are saying we are making it up are doing so. Hopefully, regular CAG'ers trust us a little more when we say this is a legit deal.

Microsoft's Xbox Retail Team

I'm part of that as well. BBB. That explains it.
