My TV supports both 1080p and 720p input resolutions but is native 1366x768. So, either the image is scaled up or down. Which scaling will provide the better image quality?

You'd be surprised, but almost all 720P LCD TV's are really 1366x768. You're best off running it in 720P. (Wouldn't want to have to say 768P eh?)

you shouldn't be able to go 1080p unless your tv will automatically scale it for you...but your tv is a 720p set so you should choose 720p

Well first I would like to know what kind of tv that you have that is a 720p set, but has a 1080p option to it. Is this option through using the hdmi I take it?

My Bravia is like that. It's the same native resolution but it will accept up to 1080p signal... and then it will scale it to 720p. It was confusing at first because it displays the resolution of the signal it receives and I had thought I was viewing 1080p but I looked it up and figured it out.

Use 1080p for blurays. If you didn't, then PS3 would scale 1080 to 720p and then your TV will scale it to 768. You don't want the signal to be scaled twice.

I'm not sure about games. I don't know if PS3 would scale a 720p game to 1080p (if 720p was unchecked in PS3 settings). If it would, then that would be bad, since the game woudl be scaled twice. I think if you enable both 720p and 1080p in PS3 you should be fine.

PS3 doesn't upscale PS3 games (only PS1 and PS2). That was a complaint from owners of older hdtvs that don't support 720p.
