Anybody got any ideas? I already bought the $5 license... just looking for a copy of Rock Band

A lot of places don't rent it for that reason. And the reason why you might not be getting responses is because its illegal. When you buy the license export key your acknowledging that you own the game. The easiest way is to buy one off eBay and then trade it in. But that can still be considered a gray area.

Actually, it's not illegal. It's perfectly legal because you're buying a sub-license which allows you to use these songs in Rockband 2. Purchasing the license clearly states you don't need to own or buy Rockband to use these songs in Rockband 2. The only reason you have to pay the $5 is to pay the rights holders (the people who wrote/own these songs).

John Drake (PR guy at Harmonix) has also stated that it's okay for fans to rent the first game to get the songs for the second.

No laws are being broken... especially not in Canada.

Anyways, now that I got that out of the way... still looking for help, but I may give the eBay suggestion a shot... even though shipping is usually ridiculous.

The reason most places don't rent it is because it was only available as a bundle with the instruments when it was released and rental places don't rent out the instruments or any other accessory so they just didn't carry the game, but the sequels and track packs were sold seperately so they carry them.

Not it wasn't. I had a standalone copy day one.

Yeah that's what I remember too. Man, I'm starting to think there's no logic to Blockbuster not carrying Rock Band but carrying the track packs... !

I'm just patiently checking Craigslist everyday until I come across something decent.
