2 Games I won off lowball causing my Xbox to make crackling noises

Okay, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to put this. I figured it was still relevant to this forum because it is a deal I got off this site.

I won 2 games from starmask2k3's lowball, a while back. I've been on vacation and just got home and had my first chance to put them in my 360. The two games were Dragon Ball Raging Blast 2 and Kameo: Elements of Power. It turns out that both of these games cause my 360 to make crackling noises when I play them.

It's odd because both of the discs look like they're in very good shape and they're from two very different time periods. One game is 2005, the other is 2010. I have over 70 games in my Xbox 360 library, and none of my other games cause these noises when I play them, not even my brand new copy of Catherine.

So my questions to you guys are:

Do you have any idea what could be causing these noises?
Do you think it could be that both of these games were resurfaced before sending them out?
If you bought from star's lowball, have you had any trouble with your games?

Again, I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum.

Stuff like this just drives me nuts, because I don't know if its causing my Xbox to overheat when I play them, as the system runs several times louder and makes these crackling noises.

Thanks for your help.

I'm not looking to start drama here. I'm looking for insight so I can figure out what I should do here.

I don't know if it's my machine, the games or what. But this stuff eats at me quick. I feel stressed until I get it taken care of.

Regardless, IF starmask had them resurfaced, that was obviously in good intention. I'm just curious if perhaps reading a resurfaced game could be overworking the 360 or if there's another reason to all of this.

The only correlation that I can think of between the two games is that they came from starmask. If anyone has any thoughts on the matter, please share them.

I'm just not sure if I need to send my machine in. Replace the discs or what.

I'm just saying starmask has been known to have trading problems. The drama's not caused by you by any means.

I know. I just don't want this thread to be about him. The only reason I mentioned it was to find out if perhaps others that bought from him may be experiencing this.

I'm only interested in finding out how to fix this :).

Well, I'm no help because the game I won from his lowball I still can't install on my system. My disk drive is pretty much toast and it takes a while just to read a disk, let alone install one. I will say that anytime my 360 has made noise with any game, it was about 2-3 hours away from RROD. Do any other games make the noise now?

If you're playing other games and there's nothing wrong with them, then it's probably the discs.

What does the condition of the discs look exactly? Scratches, scuffs, etc.

Out of my 65 game Xbox 360 collection, these are the only two that make these noises.

The discs are in very good condition. That's why I was thinking perhaps they'd been resurfaced.
email him with the problem... maybe he'll get you a refund
I'm more concerned that my 3rd Xbox may be in need of repair but I can't tell if it's the discs or not.

I have sent him a PM, and while a refund would be nice, I'd like to find out exactly what's going on first.

It could be that the discs are unbalanced; if different areas are too thick or too thin it could cause the disc to spin up weird. Maybe try the same discs on a different xbox?

The only way to tell if it is your xbox or not is to try it in another xbox. Then you can tell if it is your system or the disks causing it. If you want to know for sure, try that.

Install the games, then when you play them it'll spin the disc down and shut the drive off.

That's kinda a temporary solution. I wanna make sure my Xbox is working properly.

I intend to try the games on another Xbox. It seems very unlikely that two discs from the same source would come unbalanced, although that crossed my mind as well.

I'll try them on multiple Xbox's tomorrow and report my findings.

If anyone has any insight, please let me know. I'm a paranoid fuck, seeing as this is my 3rd Xbox and it's a 250g Slim.

Well, according to Starmask, these discs were not resurfaced. So I have no idea wtf could be causing this.

It blows my mind that out of 65 discs, the only 2 that are causing this problem are the two from one specific source. I can't figure out what is wrong with them.

It could just be a "normal" thing. My Xbox makes a popping sound sometimes and apparently there's a metal shielding that gets hot and expands/contracts and makes the popping sound. If that's your issue though I don't know why only those 2 games would do it. Maybe try some other games again. Are you sure it's just those 2? And mine didn't start making that noise until after I'd had it for a couple years so I don't really know how normal it is.

Thanks everyone for the insight. I tried the games on another Xbox today, and while the fan seemed like it was running rather loudly, there were no crackling sounds.

So I have no idea why these discs make these noises on my Xbox, while other games are as quiet as a mouse.
