Syphon Filter Omega Strain - $14.99, what I thought was funny was that they had new copies on sale for $12.99!

I also can't believe how hard it was just to get an XBox system at FYE. It took me 3 stores until I was able to get the system. There is some stupid rebate deal (buy the system, 1 game for $39.99 or more and another controller and get $20 back). The problem is that at the first 2 stores, they said they cannot sell the system without purchasing the bundle. I already have games and controllers so it was annoying. But a 3rd store just let me buy the system.

Since the cash started, my FYE has gone ballastic about trade-ins: they went from very liberal, taking multiple copies of something at a time, to refusing to take more than one copy of anything and being very huffy about it....

Just be glad yours gives cash. None of the ones near me does, and one of them has stopped taking trade-ins altogether! :(

YMMV, but i was able to get gamecrazy to price match wherehouse.com trade-in value by printing out the webpage quote and bringing it in. I traded two freestyle soccers (one xbox, one cube) for $34.

For those who have picky FYE's/Wherehouse's (like me) this might be a good way to still cash in on their good trade in rates.

Oh believe me, I AM glad--it's just that I wish they didn't attempt to make you feel like the scum of the earth when you do trade-ins....

And that's the reason I'm sending my GF out today to unload a bunch of stuff for me. But I'm sending her to the FYE that doesn't even sell games. They just ship them to another store.

Also that Gamecrazy trade-in match is crazy. Too bad the closet GC to me is in my hometown (4 hrs away). I'm gonna start stocking up now stuff for my next trip.

Ok i made this list for myself before i go out to a few Best Buys today & i'm gonna share it with you guys for convinence.

THE AMOUNTS YOU SEE NEXT TO THE GAMES ARE THE TRADE IN VALUE'S YOU'LL MOST LIKELY GET AT FYE!!!!

PS2 $5 Games
**NOTE: There's a $5 off ANY PS2 GAME COUPON for Best Buy in the gaming deals section so these games will be FREE**

Astro Boy - $18

traded in today
Astro boy ps2- $18
Ncaa march madness 2005 ps2- $20.99
Mortal Kombat Kollector's edition xbox- $25
Star ocean 3 ps2- $24.04
shenmue 2 xbox- $7
madden 2004 ps2- $4
yellowcard (ocean avenue)- $6.25
incubus (crow left of the murder)- $6.25

with it i bought Chappelle show season 2, viewtiful joe 2 (ps2), a pair of headphones for mp3 player, the avaitor (late mother's day gift for mom), cartoon network speedway (gift for little brother for passing pre-k), and gave the rest of the credit to my sister to buy some green day cd's for herself (high school gradutation)

One of my local FYE's is now paying the extra 20% if you opt for store credit, which I did today (Freestyle Soccer Xbox, $21.xx credit). However, instead of the usual credit slip, they put it on a gift card...is this a new policy too, or did I just get lucky?
That really depends on the store. Most won't let you trade in more than 1 though
Ouch... I was planning on getting two Astro Boy's tommorrow, enough credit for a nice DVD box set.

Any idea on how to trade them both in without a hassle? I was thinking I could do one, and then my girlfriend could do one, but I don't know if they'll flip out about that either.

I usually space out trade ins when I have multiple copies (I wait a few days to a week). I have enough trouble trading in 1 copy of a game sometimes since depending on the game, they might not want to take more than 1 or 2 copies of a used game at all or if they already have some used copies of the game for sale, they might not accept it at all. Like with Room Zoom, a store had 1 used copy and wouldn't accept mine. I really can't blame them though, if I was the manager I sure as heck wouldn't want to give $26 for a game like Room Zoom that I know would never sell at $9.99 let alone $43.99

The easiest way is to simply go to multiple stores if that's possible. I've never had a problem doing that (and I managed to unload 7 copies of Drake in a span of 3 days a few months back)
Question--is Warehouse credit usable at FYE?
Didn't ask, but since they carry virtually the same items it shouldn't matter.

note to all valdosta citzens... the FYE in the mall (the only one in town) is not taking any more games. They are getting rid of there entire game section. packing it up as i walked in, oh well good while it lasted.

In the last few days at 3 FYE's and 1 Wherehouse:

3 Astro Boy PS2 22.50 each (2 free, paid $5 for the other)
2 Shadow Ops XB 27.74 each (got these when EB had them online for $10 AC)
1 Egg Mania XB 22.50 (got this from GS for $6, paid $2 for resurfacing)
2 Hitman Contrats XB 9.37 (got these for $5 each)
1 I-Ninja GC $10.50 ($2 at CC, got another copy for a friend)
1 BG&E GC $9.37 ($2 at CC, got another copy for myself)
3 Transworld Surf GC $33.75 ($10 each from Amazon/TRU.com)
1 Black & Bruised GC $10.50 (free from the last GS B2G1)

This extra 25% thing just sweetens the whole deal. Gotta thank my GF for trading some of this stuff in for me. I hope this B3G1 never ends at Wherehouse. It's been going on for at least 5 months. Today I got (all used in mint condition):

Doom 3 CE XB $42.99
KOTOR 2 XB $35.99
Ape Escape PSP $26.99
MGS3 PS2 free (Priced at $23.99)

Then this happens. The credit slip that I gave the guy for this stuff had $137 on it. He rung up my stuff and then gave my $.50. I politely ask why I didn't get the one free game. He realizes what he did and then does one large exchange. He ended up giving me my free game and $25.18 cash. On the way back to work I got Jade Empire LE new from FYE. Had to use $2 of the money that was given to me at Wherehouse since I didn't have anymore credit slips on me. I hate these damn slips.

This is by far my biggest flip. Since I got $25 cash back out of all this I basically spent $52-53 and got $295 in credit.

ATTENTION: My local Coconuts (Oak Lawn, IL) now gives 25% extra for trade-ins on games, movies, and music! Check out how much credit they gave me:

Pac-Man Fever (PS2) - $9.38
Yanya Caballista: City Skater (PS2) - $5.00
Project Eden (PS2) - $8.13
Resident Evil Outbreak (PS2) - $22.50
Room Zoom (Xbox) - $32.50
State of Emergency (Xbox) - $9.38
Digimon: The Movie (DVD) - $1.25
Linkin Park & Jay-Z "Collision Course" - $6.25
Stevie Wonder "The Definitive Collection" - $6.25

Total - $100.64

That's right - $22.50 for the first Resident Evil Outbreak that came out in 2004, and $32.50 for Room Zoom (instead of just a measly $26.00 :D). FYE is now officially the epitome of "jackass".

Unloaded a backpack worth of games yesterday (everything from March Madness 2005 to Room Zoom to Alias) at a pair of FYEs: for the end tally, I walked out with a brand new PS2 (mine has been acting up, and is only useful for HD Loader stuff), a two pack of memory cards, DMC3, Obscure (PS2), $100ish in store credit, and nearly $200 in cash.... :D Based upon what I paid for the games (not alot: free games from Best Buy, $1.99 games from CC, cheap used games from online, etc), I figure I made $50 in cash, and got the rest of the stuff for free.... which makes this just about the greatest deal I've ever done :) I'd be happy to post a full list of everything I traded in, but it's honestly just the same ol' stuff everyone's seen before... with the exception of Butt Ugly Martians: Zoom or Doom, which trades for $18.50 (+25% if you do credit), although they had to look it up in the system.

jkircos--They do it manually. The store will only give you the extra 25% if they are one of the ones offering cash for trade-ins: for those stores, the former credit price becomes the cash price, and the new credit price is set to 25% above that.

Does that store where you got the $16.xx get a lot of trade ins? And have you ever gotten lower values on any other game there? I know the prices are supposed to be consistent but I'm asking because some FYE stores do in fact give lower trade in values than the other stores. When every store was giving $18 for Unreal 2, they only gave me $9 (and I took another copy to another store for $18 a few days later), and Street Hoops only got $5 when another store gave me $7.50.

got shut down trading Freestyle Soccer (XB) 'cuz they supposedly can't take BlockBuster games. Funny, how I've traded that same game there months ago w/o a problem.

I'll probably try again at another store.

BTW -- they wouldn't take my mucha lucha (GBA) either, since they don't take games bought at TRU - TRU get mad? buncha bull (this was prob. my stupidity since the pricetag showing "Great Deals $14.99" was still on it)

Come to think of it, I did have one odd quirk yesterday: Second Sight (xbox) traded for $11.20, instead of the $14 it was supposed to get... maybe it had something to do with the amount of copies they had in stock? Everything else traded in normally...

Yeah, they get tons of trade in and give out cash so that may have been a fator. But on the other hand Room Zoom was still $26. At this point I'm tempted to create a 'FYE exclusive' sticker and slapping it on the next copy I trade in.

This happened to me last night as well, they said they couldn't take BlockBuster labeled cases. Funny thing is they let me swap the Freestyle Soccer GC from the Blockbuster case into a regular GC case and then I could trade it. (The girls behind the counter were cool.)

I got 17$ for Destruction Derby PS2 and 18$ for FreeStyle Soccer GC, I had to keep the XBOX version of FreeStyle Soccer as the BlockBuster label was to large on the front of the game.

Called the local FYE (only one of two in the area), and this is what they quoted me for the following:

Astro Boy (PS2) - $18
XIII (PS2) - $7.50
Ninja Gaiden (XB) - $22.18
MGS3 Snake Eater (PS2) - $18.00
Paper Mario (GC) - $24.03
Shadow Ops: Red Mercury (XB) - $22.18
Space Channel 5 SE (PS2) - $12
Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain (PS2) - $14.98
Colin McRae 3 (XB) - $18.50
Colin McRae 04 (XB) - $18.50
Outrun 2 (XB) - $19.50
Virtua Tennis (GBA) - $7.50
Onimusha 2 (PS2) - $7.50
Virtua Fighter 4 EVO (PS2) - $7.50

My FYE stopped the extra 25% thing. Now the values are as they always were and they deduct the 25% for cash. It was awesome for the few days it lasted! Of course it's surreal that I can buy a crappy $5 game at Best Buy and get $18 credit anyhow....

Watch out for McRae 04--Wherehouse.com lists it as $9.00, and I have little reason to think they're wrong...

Damn, I had 6 games in my hand and they only accepted two. The guy looked at my disks and was pointing out what looked like flaws in the media and saying no thanks. He also rejected games that had been traded before. I had even removed the stickers, or changed the cases. All the game cd's looked top notch to me. Maybe this guy is just a pain in the ass, who knows. I will try the same games another time.

Mine doesn't even allow cash anymore. Trade-ins can only get store credits. I put all of my store credits on a gift card. Make me feel safer this way.

Welcome to the world of FYE--to my knowledge, they're the most strict company out there about trade-ins, and will refuse stuff at whim.... that's just the price you have to pay for their great trade-in rates :)

The Fullerton, CA Wherehouse I went to, is doing the same. Last week they offered 30% more for trade in credit. Today I went to trade in some games for cash and got 30% less then the listed price.

Astro Boy (ps2) - $14.40 cash
NCAA March Madness (ps2) - $16.79 cash
NFL Street (xb) - 7.20 cash
SSX3 (xb) - 6.00 cash

So how is this store for checking for scratches, the store in Huntington on Beach was unbeleivably strict.

And also on that note, how strict are they if you send stuff in to the website ?

I haven't encounter any problems since most of the games i traded were scratch free. They don't have any problems taking multiples.

The kind of scratches I'm talking about are miniscule, I would not even count them as scratches. Do they give you shit about trading games that clearly were previously traded ?

I bought some gunk remover today so that I can clean all my game cases.

never traded a previously traded game to them, so i wouldn't know

This is very interesting, I was told today that my credit cannot be used towards buying a console, or a couple of other things. I cannot be used to buy a gift card, so like freekin chucky cheese, I have to cary a bunch of receipts around. And NCAA March Madness only got 15 and change today. This is certainly a struggle. I got the same guy as before and her rejected a bunch of my games for "Scratch's", which my own personal microscope counld not detect.

O well!!!

Buying systems seems to be a pain at FYE. I think someone else a while ago had the same problem where they were told they couldn't use credit to buy a system. I haven't had that problem but I did have the problem of them forcing me to buy a bundle (game and extra controller) when I wanted to buy an XBox. Luckily I found a store that just let me buy the system. Try going back when different employees are there or try another FYE. I don't understand the problem of buying a console with the credit. It's "merchandise credit" and a console certainly is merchandise. I guess it's because they make no profit on the systems but it still isn't right

As for the gift cards, unfortunately, almost everyone has been unsuccessful in getting credit on a gift card. I have tired at a bunch of stores and never have been successful. It sucks because the website has some stuff that the stores don't sell like PC Software and I hate how those stupid store credit paper slips can fade and get destroyed easily.

I used my credit to buy a Nintendo DS with no problem. The District Manager was there and was the one who helped me as he explained to what I think was a new hire how to trade in games, the thing is that he didn't even check the disks to see if they were scratched. He just scanned them and gave me the credit :)
