2010 World Cup Netherlands vs Spain

I love the World Cup. Never thought I'd say that. With England out, I guess I'd like the Netherlands to win since they're the closest to England and they've never won before.
A Germany v. Netherlands final would be a coup for white/blond people everywhere.
I don't get it

Nothing wrong with the Suarez handball simply because of the rules. He might miss 2 games, so there is the justice for all the boobirds out there. That is what they call a "good" penalty in hockey, such as when a defensive player drags down an offensive player on an empty net breakaway. Defensive player gets penalized, offensive team gets a penalty shot, but the defensive team now has a chance to stop the puck. Really, blame the Ghanian player, he should have scored on the ensuing penalty.

I'm guessing it'll be Netherlands vs. Germany. Both teams look so damned strong.

Which reminds me of my favourite Austin Powers-Goldmember quote:
"There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch."

I've heard that quote way too many times in my life....

Suarez only got a 1 match ban. The reviewing panel did not deem it necessary to ban him for more than one game. So he'll be able to play next time Uruguay has a qualification match. ;)

God damn, Germany is a fucking machine.

With England out I guess it'd be cool to see the Netherlands win it, but I'm scared for anyone that has to play Germany.

Been a fun tourney thus far, but the lack of any sort of replay and the bad refereeing is becoming a glaring issue. Really sucks. I do love how well Europe is doing, though.

I wasn't trying to insult either country, I happen to be of Dutch descent myself. Just making a joke.

Certainly looks that way. Spain have certainly been good defensively but their offense hasn't really dazzled. If Germany brings the same sort of effort they brought against England and Argentina, they'll handle Spain easily.

The Netherlands should handle Uruguay fairly easily, but you never know.

If Uruguay beats the Netherlands, he plays in the final. If they lose, he plays in the consolation game.

forgot about the consolation game....

Even if Paraguay played another great defensive match, Spain did not look good. Except for that one goal, they looked disjointed and clueless as to how to break the defense. They cannot afford to do that against a solid German defense, who will quickly turn them inside out with a counter attack.

Spain is the underdog, but I like the Netherlands' jersey color better... who should I root for? Won't be a problem until the final, hopefully.

Spain is the second highest ranked team on the entire planet and were one of the popular picks to win the whole thing.. In no way shape or form are they any kind of underdog.

Really? Wow. I wouldn't have guessed that from the game they played against Paraguay. I thought Germany would be the favorites, especially after the pounding they gave Argentina.

So does that make Uruguay an underdog? Haven't they already won a couple cups? Neither Spain or the Netherlands have won, so there's my new reason for cheering them on. So there!

A long long time ago (including the first one). Of these four teams they definitely are the underdog.

Spain is ranked 2nd in the world, Netherlands 4th, Germany 6th, and Uruguay 16th. For reference, the US is 14th.

Of course, the rankings aren't the be-all end-all of the best teams, but it gives you some idea of the relative quality of the teams.

Dutch go up 2-1 on what will be another controversial goal. A dutch player was off side and appeared to be in the goal tender's line of site, lifted his foot to let the ball go by (didn't touch it) and into the net.

One half of my dream finals match is in place, now it's Germany's turn to make it to the big game.
this whole tournament has been a joke
I missed the punchline?
oh don't mind me, i just wanted uruguay to win =(

ah well, holland vs germany would be pretty great.
Oh . I thought you may be leading into a conversation about the refereeing or something, which I would be inclined to agree with. Suarez being out was, for me, the difference maker in this game. I'm also not very sure why they pulled Forlan out before the game was over.

I'm pretty sure the entire continent of Africa wanted Uruguay to lose, though, so a lot of people can rest easy tonight.

I would have picked their other starters as being more obvious difference makers. Maybe a little more defence would have made the game go into shootout. That, or the obvious second offisde goal not fucking counting. Too many injuries at the worst time possible, but that's the game for you.
Maybe Tabarez was afraid of him getting injured before the consolation game? Quite honestly the game probably wouldn't have been 3-2 if Forlan was still in simply because of his style of play.

Yet another game that looks to be a close one on paper.

For such a young team, Germany have completely surpassed my pre-tournament expectations. The most I ask for today is a good performance out of the boys, win or loss. I definitely think they can win today, though, and I can't wait to see what happens!

Yeah, I hope this ends up being a good one. Most of the great matchups on paper in this cup have turned into blow outs.

thank goodness the person who ran on the field had clothes on.....

Pretty dominant performance for a 1-0 win. Germany had some chances, but Spain had many more and pretty much controlled the game.

Should be a great final!

Germany looked pretty listless in the end, which is surprising out of a team that was so energetic all tournament.

I'm predicting a Netherlands win, but it should be a great game.

wow what a let down from Germany. They seemed so flat. Spain took them out of the game by having all the possession in the game. Germany didn't seem to strong with any of the counter attacks.
Spain wasn't better than Germany throughout the tournament, but I think if Germany had shown up for the game (and possibly had Mueller) that it would've been better.
I really wanted the Netherlands to beat Germany in the final. Now it'll be interesting since both the Netherlands and Spain really hold possession of the ball well, although the Dutch are more prone to play a bad pass and thus be prone to a counter attack. Passing accuracy from Spain was amazing.
I'm praying for a Dutch win.
Germany has been playing a weak sauce game, I was expecting them to put up a bigger fight.
I think their strategy in this game was completely flawed. To hand Spain the ball, without even trying to recuperate in mid-field was simply dumb. They put 11 on their side of the field, and tried to counter attack.

They conceded too much, and paid with a well deserved loss.

I totally expected Germany to take the cup...was really surprised to see how they played against Spain. Mad props to Spain, they had control of the ball for most of the game.

Netherlands and Spain! I called it, and you all saw it! \\:D/

Now I'm cheering for the Netherlands, mostly because their orange jerseys are the coolest.

Anyone else watching the 3rd place game? Pretty entertaining thus far. Uruguay just scored in the 28th minute to tie it at 1.

Im watching it, I was more excited about this game than the final. I was rooting for both of these teams when they were playing in the semi.

So I'm watching this stuff and the Suraez person gets booed everytime he touches the ball

And the host says that its embarrassing...FOR THE FANS!

?????

This is EXACTLY why I could not give a flying fuck about soccer, golf, or tennis.

Ol buddy committed a damn crime in my eyes. He wanted his team to stay tied so badly he acted as a goalie and prevented a clear goal. And I'm suppose to forgive him??? And the continent of Africa is suppose to just be like "Eh, we forgive him even though he purposely affected the outcome of a match within the last dire seconds and made the game go to penalty kicks and such..."

This would be like if a team was in the playoffs and a player purposely ran into the kicker to knock the kicker off course so he couldn't kick a game winner...and then acting like the player shouldn't be booed about it later in the playoffs

This is exactly why Ian Darke said that the only people boo-ing are the ones who don't understand the game.

I'm proud of Germany. Though they didn't get a chance to play in the big game, they still came out strong (with half their starters out, mind you) and won against Uruguay. Though I'm heavily biased, I think Germany have been the most exciting team in the tournament, and they have proven to be a goal-scoring machine. Müller, Özil, and Schweinsteiger all deserve a huge amount of credit for the German run in this tournament - they are all brilliant players.

Look out Euro Finals 2012, look out Brazil 2014...this German team is legit.
