2012 Election Thread
Thanks for the clarification. I was at the firehouse yesterday and heard this on the news. It seemed too crazy to be true. I wonder how many retractions will actually be posted and broadcast?
Which is exactly why you posted it as if it were true right?
Which is exactly why you posted it as if it were true right?
Shut up you union supporter!!1!

Oh wait I read the rest of the article. Looks like I will go back to hating unions silently while waiting for Drudge to post some more made-up BS. ;)

Calm down guys, there obviously wasn't a critical reading segment of that fire fighting exam he had to take. He wasn't hired for his critical thinking skills.
http://hotair.com/archives/2012/08/07/obama-goes-seven-weeks-without-white-house-press-conference/

Obama has been known to dodge press questions for quite a while also.

And, seriously, does anyone who leans left here defend the Unions in their actions of refusing help after Sandy?
dont worry they will bury that and say Look how much help obama did that two days he took off to help LOL

love how he goes they wont be forgotten YET no HELP IS COMING if this was BUSH and louisiana it would be all over the news every hour

Romney's in Morrisville PA right now.

Apparently almost every recent Republican nominee goes to PA right before election day, and winds up losing PA.

So I live in WI and watching Football today has been so painful. Seriously 80% of the commercials today are political ads. It is so depressing.

Anyway, the Redskins lost today so if the "rule" holds true Mitt Romney will be President.

Did the Hurricane have any major impact on Philadelphia? I know there's power problems in New York, but I'm not sure about Philly. If it did, perhaps Romney would win it.

I know that, at least in the last few elections, PA has under-represented Democrats in polling data (I don't know why they haven't fixed that). The same goes for Wisconsin, but the opposite. The last few polls before elections there have under-represented Republicans and they've come out on top (at the state level here).

My brother did some number crunching in NC, and he basically says that while we had a record turnout of early voting this year, Obama's lead from 08 after early voting shrunk from roughly 300,000 to 100,000 this year (Losing 100,000+ raw votes). Considering how close it was for Obama in 08 (less than 50,000 votes), this means Romney is probably going to carry it.

For those also interested, McCrory's probably going to win by 11-17 points over Dalton for Governor.

They won in '04 and Kerry still lost, so the system is flawed. Obama is ahead in all the swing state poll. The only thing that would win it for Mittens at this point is some major shenanigans.
Can anyone recommend a live stream of election coverage? I had considered going to a bar but I may not.
A bar seems like a risky proposition in this election environment :D. Anyway, I know the 360 will have NBC coverage at 7 ET and then live coverage of Stewart and Colbert if that is an option for you.

Actually clak, critical thinking is a big part of incident management and hazard mitigation. I heard that false union story on 2 different news broadcasts while I was working yesterday. One at the station and one on the TV of the hospital's waiting room while delivering a homeless woman to registration after experiencing pain from a caesarian delivery of a baby on Halloween. She only realized she was pregnant 2 weeks ago. Definitely a Democrat;-) Anyway, I appreciated being told the truth. I never deliberately try to spread false info. With that being said, is this true?

I have a TV but no cable and I dont think I know where my digital converter box is. Dont have the xbox live. Its really gotta be a live stream via PC internet.

Even though this is Texas, there is a group called Drinking Liberally that meets in places like this co-op owned bar where conservatives probably wouldnt be caught dead. Wouldnt be staying late anyway, only until the recounts start. I would have to be a little careful around them, since I'm a socialist and not just a liberal. I got banned from a liberal only forum early in the year for being too far to the left, of all things.

Hey Dr Mario, I would really like to hear a synopsis of what your ideal government would look like. Tax, health care, military, welfare, foreign policy, etc.

They modified the Redskins rule to say it's for the popular vote, so the party of the last popular vote is "in the white house." So in 04, the Skins lost, but since Gore won the popular vote in 00, they still count it as holding true. Or...something like that.

I honestly hope this isn't the only place you turn to if you want to figure out if something is true or not.

What I did to fact-check your union story took like, 5 seconds. I opened google and googled 'union worker sandy'.

No, I was too busy at work to check any sources. When I got home, this page was left open, and I jumped the gun. It sounded crazy, but I have read and heard some substantiated stories about union rules that seem pretty far fetched.

Failed that part of the exam, did you? I also see that you're lazy too. A lazy city employee, that never happens.
Your comments seem random and clueless. I apologize in advance if you are indeed mentally handicapped.
Come on man, you can't expect to come in here and post complete and utter bullshit, get called on it, apologize for being clueless, and then expect to be taken seriously when you start hurling insults.

Of course he can, it's what they do. More than likely his dumbass will be gone in a short while anyway. Off to post stupid shit in another forum somewhere until the next election rolls around.

Wait, insults were "hurled" at me first. "Failed that part of the exam, did you? I also see that you're lazy too. A lazy city employee, that never happens.", for example. I took it in jest, as I hope my comment was taken. And if anyone is truly taking this forum "seriously", then they have other issues. "Of course he can, it's what they do. More than likely his dumbass will be gone in a short while anyway. Off to post stupid shit in another forum somewhere until the next election rolls around", this is to be taken seriously? You guys have different views than I have, that's actually what I like about this forum. If I can be called dipshit, lazy, and clueless, then surely a sarcastic jab is not out of line. Anyway, it's the internet. Free for all, no holds barred, right?;-)

Actually, you insulted everyone with your stupidity and propensity to parrot right-wing bullshit as if it was the gospel truth. Rather than correcting your behavior by doing some research and not posting the next load of easily refuted bullshit, you decide to double down with a racist dog whistle, partisan stupidity, and another conservative blog.

For someone that opines about the lack of responsibility in the world, you sure as hell don't seem to take responsibility for your own lack of effort. So rather than engage people in this forum with some actual content, you'd rather be another contrarian troll.

As for it being no holds barred? There are more than a couple of non-liberals that get along just fine here and that's because they deliver some well-informed content. All you do is serve up a steaming pile of turd on a plate, insist that it's a filet mignon, and then get all indignant when we say it's a steaming pile of shit.
fuck Paul Ryan

"Paul Ryan Says Obama Would Compromise 'Judeo-Christian Western Civilization Values'"

Does he not realize the Evangelicals think poorly of the Catholics and Mormons. Neither actually represent what Evangelicals interpret as Judeo/Christian teachings. It is such BS.
Paul Ryan's Randian philosophy is the polar opposite of everything Jesus Christ stood for. He is the classic wolf-in-sheepskin liar that judeo-christian sacred writings warn their sheep about.

Rand was also an atheist...lulz

But let's be real, it's just a dog whistle for Obama being (half)black.

Pretty much, his presence is an insult to anyone here who actually takes the time to post real content. All I know of the man is what I've observed here, and he seems to have a real lack of critical thinking skills, which I can only assume would translate over to any sort of test he'd take. Now he's trying to act like we've got the problem with his last bullshit post.

If we're all so troubled, why don't you simply leave us troubled fellows alone?

You know what would be really cool to see during this last day of the campaign? Forget these stupid swing state stops where Obama/Romney says the same stuff they've been saying for months. I want to see them kick back for once, and keep it real. Kick of their shoes and sit on the floor. Like that scene from Iron Man 1....you need to see if you haven't.

Have people ask them anything and everything. Not just political sh*t, but normal people questions. Favorite color, boxers or briefs, what kind of music do you get down to etc...It might cause the advisers to sh*t a brick but I think it'd be something radical that could swing a lot of people. I know I get sick of seeing candidates say they understand us and they're just like us, but 99% of the time they just act like political robots. Maybe I'm alone on this one, but I would certainly appreciate it.

So, you want them to have a barbecue? Or a pool party? That'd be a nice idea in any other year, but still a nice idea.

Finally this is going to be over and tomorrow everyone will be saying how the "wrong" guy won. Doesn't matter who actually wins, but the "wrong" guy is going to win one way or another.

Indeed since neither is a really great candidate.

Blue on the coasts, red states in the middle and south. It all comes down to a few guys in a few states.

Plenty of reasons to vote AGAINST one of the guys, but not many reasons to vote FOR either one.
email voting in NJ. Nothing can go wrong from that.
i sent in my vote and now my email box is spammed with porn :)

i love how these people are bitching

IM NOT GOING TO STAND IN LINE TO VOTE FOR AN HOUR

but these are the same people who just like every year will stand in line for a 10 buck toaster for 10 hours

No kidding. Cue the "I'm moving to Canada/Secede now!".

I hate the posts that complain about both candidates, I hear it every election and it's pure bullshit from ignorant whiners.

If its that bad just vote for a third-party member (there are three of all flavors - green, justice, and redneck as hell) or do a write-in.

But quit the fucking bitching I'm sick of it.
Are we making a separate thread for election night coverage?
Make one and name it something creative. I won't be joining in though cause I'll be at an election party.

Well, I'm putting it up at midnight because that one place in Maine votes then.

I am not really much of a conspiracy guy but Roger Ebert tweeted this (not that it really matters it was him) so I thought I would share. I recall there being some issue with Romney and ties to voting machines but this seems odd to me. Anytime voting machine software is getting a patch you have to wonder about it. It should be law that this type of stuff be disclosed to the public. Well speculate away or ignore I guess.

http://www.salon.com/2012/11/05/ohi...tware_onto_voting_machines/?source=newsletter

At the point you have to seriously consider New World Order rigging of the voting machines, you might as well hang up your hat and go with it. There's nothing that can be done by that point.

How is it pure bullshit and what makes it ignorant? I doubt there are many people who are in-line with everything Romney says (today) or Obama's record. When you only have two (realistic) chances, it's not going to be common that a candidate comes along that agrees with your stance on every issue, and if someone feels that this year it's even less than normal, why get upset that they wish there were better choices?

Read up on the things John Husted has tried to do this year as Secretary of State.

He's making Ken Blackwell look positively ethical by comparison.

I don't know enough about the "patch" conspiracy, but I do know that Husted is unabashed in his attempt to prevent Obama from taking Ohio by any means necessary.

I wonder when we'll get to the point of 'Early Voting Places aren't the same as regular Polling Places, forcing me to travel farther, CONSPIRACY!'

It's not really a conspiracy when Republicans are going on camera stating they are passing voter ID to flip states.

Do you really think rigging a machine is out of bounds?

I'll be disappointed no matter what tomorrow, just slightly less so if Obama wins.

Electoral fraud via machines is just a fact of our modern elections. It happened in 2008 as well. Races are going to slant one way (and always the same way) vastly more than they should statistically. But they can only steal/flip so many votes. Things have to look legitimate.

The only answer we have is turnout. No one is going to look into it. They steal 5k in a county, you bring 10k. They still 100k in a state, you bring 200k. The owner of Diebold said in 2004 that he would deliver Ohio for Bush, and he did.
