249.99 FS On a 42" 1080p TV

I have a 32 inch Samsung thats I got either 2 or 3 Black Fridays ago from Crutchfield.com for $325 with free shipping with no tax. At the time they were going for $450-$550 online on every store.
Its going pretty strong and looks slick! Considering how people say that T.Vs these days dont last as long as they did in the 90's and the 2000's since back then everything was made better - even computers, but Im hoping and it seems like this would last at least half a decade since I own it for almost 3 years.
The panels are made by a select few manufacturers, however the guts otherwise are not. I had a 21" monitor with a top line Samsung IPS panel, a gorgeous screen, only to die because of a crap PSU with cheap capacitors (thanks, Gateway). Keep in mind that this was an extremely favorably reviewed monitor at the time of purchase, but almost all died by the 3 yr mark.
The reviews were professional, too...

You will be getting a low end samsung or other name brand panel, but the housing, PSU and controls well most likely be junk.

Stuff isn't built to last anymore, but the cheaper you go the more issues you'll have. I wonder what the timing is on a $250 40+" TV. Ghosting is probable. Those looking for a cheap upgrade for consoles would be best suited to get a high quality PC monitor when you are sub $500.

Every brand will have a good stuff and bad stuff. Just shop as smart as you can. This just sends up red flags.

Edit: Disclosure, I have a 46" Samsung LED LCD I got for $900 two years ago, a fantastic price on a then $1600+ TV. Probably cheaper now.
bingo!

you guys better learn how to solder, because 90% of your power supplies are going to go out. You're gonna need to learn how to swap out blown capacitors. Otherwise the power board costs anywhere from 100 to 200 bucks. (thats probably where they make their money)
And the deal is dead. While people here bitched and whined about an unknown brand, other people thought otherwise and snatched up this deal.
Well... yeah... Cheap stuff always sells.
I learned my lesson on cheap LCDs. From now on I stick to LG or Samsung.
I take it you're one of the lucky few whose Samsung LCD didn't have capacitors blow until it wouldn't even turn on and then when you called Samsung for a warranty fix they kept warning you that if it's not the specific known problem that's your cause then you will pay out the a** for the repair?

I used to love Samsung (have tons of Sammy products in the house) but no more.
Not that much to do with "working fine" and more to do with "looking like crap".
It's a plasma. Better looking than a LCD. Just irked with the glare sometimes. It's a 720p as well but whatever.
I've had a Samsung since 2007 that I use nearly every day and I've never had a problem with it.

I guess I'm lucky.
I have another Samsung TV and post-repair the LCD that are still running fine - my point was (I guess I didn't make it so well though LOL) is that the badge on a product doesn't guarantee anything.
This reminds me of the old story of an eBay seller mailing a picture of a TV to someone after listing the TV and stating "what you see is what you get".

I like Vizio. They're the premium low-end :)
lol wtf?
I used to think she was tough till some guy with a lifeless look in his eyes, made her seem like a poodle. Damn Judy.. guess you ain't got no big azz booty.

Haven't ever seen her timid and petrified, till then.
link please!
Because I could spend a 1/4 of that on an LCD or a 1/3 of that on a LED TV and replace it every year for a newer model and after three of four years have three HD TV's in my house and spend the same amount you did.

Unless your TV is 100" or cures cancer all you did by spending that much is make yourself feel like your penis is a few inches bigger.
Congratulations, you then would have a full house of crap TVs.
Spent that much because it is the best. BTW it was $5000 originally.

Maybe you should buy 4 Kias or Yugos or your garage instead of 1 or 2 Acuras or Lexus'.

Smart man.

I thought all types of repairs are covered under manufacturing warranties?

On a somewhat related note my 3 year old Sony Bravia is starting to have issues with the speakers now. It happens everytime I start up my TV - the speakers get all scratchy for the first 3-4 minutes and then they sound like normal again. If anybody has any knowledge on this - is this something that will get worse or stay that way due to just starting up?

My TCL is a year and 1/2 old and the one problem I had with it got fixed with a software patch. I would recommend these tv's to anyone. TCL = Re-branded RCA built with Samsung parts.

seriously all non-major brands are COMPLETE CRAP! i had a polaroid tv that i bought from circuit city and when it started having problems - circuit city goes out of business, what a waste of a warranty... Then I try contacting polaroid to get it fixed and they said they don't make tvs anymore so there is nothing they can do. Long story short, I swear to god I will NEVER allow any crappy polaroid product in my household so long as I live. i hope they go out of business completely!

I agree with GBA. I always buy last year's TV. It makes more sense financially and the quality difference isnt as great as you make it out to be. For instance, I bought the 60" LG 3d tv last week for $1099 from Fry's. Its last year's model that cost $2600. When I was pricing it out last year and saw the $2600 price tag I bought a 50 Samsung ($500) instead with the intention of buying a 60" when the price went down. Now I have both TV's for a total of $1600, saved $1000 and have two tvs instead of one. ONe for the for living room and the 50' got transferred to the spare bedroom for gaming and for visits.

BTW, I would rather buy a base Kia then a loaded Lexus and save the money and put the money in some type of investment. I was always taught to put as little money as possible in depreciating assets (TV,cars, tech) and use it for assets that either appreciate or make you money. For my car, I was looking at a Honda Odyssey for $34,000.00. Wound up buying a 2010 Mazda 5 for $14,000 brand new and with the money I saved I will buy whichever minivan goes on firesale (probably a Nissan Quest) in the next year or so.

Bang for your buck

BTW, I am sorry Isorry I missed out this TV. I am looking for another cheap TV for ANOTHER spare room where my niece is moving in, but dont want to pay more then $300 for a 42".

Well, remember... it was not uncommon for people to use tube tv's for 10+ years.

Yeah, I bought this set off Amazon a couple months ago for my room for $300. No complaints whatsoever

This. I don't blame guys for buying the high end TV's, if that's what you like, that's cool, but for me it's all about diminishing returns, I can put up with a little worse picture quality and spend half as much.
I thought I was the only one with an Insignia 32 inch Plasma! They only made a couple... Plasmas at that size are pretty rare now :)
Yeah, definitely the last of the breed.:)
