GTA LCS can be easily found on the trade boards. Yes, there's a chance of bricking, but I've done 4 (including 2 import models), without a single problem...
The chances are there, but very, very small.

i may be wrong, as i don't have a psp yet, but i've been doing some research and i think you can downgrade a 3.0 psp here

edit: after more reading it says you need GTA. sorry

Can you use a Higher res with 4:3 material? For 4:3 the ratio would be 480x360 would the PSP play that. Are you still stuck with 320x240 only if you need to keep aspect ratio.

I tried out the new firmware tonight. Vidoes running in the native resolution make a world of difference. Guess it's time to get a 4GB stick.

The PSP screen is only 480x272, so if you want to keep the original aspect ratio, 4:3 content can't get any better looking than 363x272.

Which brings me to my next point, what's the point of running 720x480 videos on the PSP?

i assume it's for people who already have videos at that higher resolution. they don't have to downconvert them. i could be wrong though.
Does the increased Resolution help with the Ghosting of the LCD screen or is it as bad?
I've commented on this before, but I really don't notice any ghosting when watching UMD videos on my PSP. You do?

Since that is DVD resolution, some have speculated that support for this resolution might be a precursor to enabling the Remote Play of DVDs from the PS3. I have my doubts, however.

But if you select "Stretch," it's seems to be a normal aspect ratio. I tried converting the GTAIV trailor in both 720x 480 and 480x272, and I couldn't tell a difference in quality when I had 720x480 in Stretch and 480x272 in Normal.

I think the speculation might be right, but who knows to what extent. Are there movies on the PS3 store? I think eventually you will be able to send your movies to your PSP from anywhere. Sony would be smart to support that. And the fact that DVD rips can be stretched to make them look correct seems to be further evidence.

I would doubt there is any difference the Native on the PSP is 480x272 so the video can be "no better" than that. I think maybe its 2 Fold it officially opens up the Full resolution and is setting up nicely for remote play and PS Store. Or did they Allow full rez with the last FW update I cant remember I have been on Custom FW for some time now.

Twofold, it saves the hassle of producing separate files for the PSP and it opens the door for a future PSP model that supports output to TV. This would let Sony get in on the market currently served by the video iPod with higher quality. (You can use the iPod video models to drive a TV with the dock but the resolution is tied tot he iPod screen's 320x240. It would also drive demand for the higher capacity Memory Sticks, making more happy numbers for Sony.

Not offering some means of outputting to TV was a big mistake on Sony's part in the original PSP design. Firmware updates could still allow this to be done via USB. The hardware to do this is already common in the PC world and could be easily adapted to produce a PSP accessory.

Selling movie files that look good on the PSP and on a TV could be a good business. The extra resolution adds some bulk but not too badly. A professionally mastered 90 minute movie can be squeezed into a gigabyte at good quality. It probably makes more sense to try selling consumers lots of Memory Stick capacity than grossly overpriced UMDs.

Yeah sony missed the boat not offering a movie DL service like Itunes. I think the point to 720x480 is so people encoding them for their PS3's to watch on a TV can use the samefiles for the PSP, they better have a good size Card thou as they will be huge. For PSP use onl stick with the native res. To answer the other question about ghosting it was a big problem when having to stretch a lower res file to the screen, it was almost non existant on UMD's and now on these higher res files allowed. I've settled on Using Nero 7's Nero Recode. The Standard AVC profile works well. I set a bitrate of 650 for Video , 96kpps for Audio in LC complexity. And a Screen Res of 480x272. In the Burn settings I leave Cabac checked and uncheck everything else, althou I'm not sure I have to. The movie looks fantastic and ends up about 500 megs for a 90 min flick
