Like the titles says, It's coming out on Tuesday and there are 4 different versions coming out for it. Is it really worth it to get it in high def or will the special edition 2 disc set be worth it or neither?

I think the disc based version would be the best. While VHS still has good picture quality, things on discs look better since they are more hi-tech.

Seriously, if you have an HDTV get a hi-def version.
why wouldnt you get it in high def?
the price difference is one ($10-$17 depending on where you buy it). If there are no major differences. I probably go with the just the movie on the DVD.

If you have the option for high-def, then by all means go for it; I'm pretty sure this flick is going to look mind-blowingly good on that medium.

I personally am going for blu-ray.

Now here's my question that hopefully someone can answer:

I'm moving the next two days so I'll be pretty busy. I was thinking of just ordering it online at say...Amazon. So to anyone who has experience there: If I place the order tonight before I go to bed and use one-day shipping, will it be here on tuesday?
If there are no major differences.
how about the picture quality. thats pretty major if you ask me. if you have a hdtv and a hd player you really shouldnt be having this debate.

since ive got my hdtv i havent bought hardly any dvds, because im waiting to get a high def player, HD has spoiled me.

I'd just buy the regular dvd, the 2 disc special edition has extra stuff that i'll just watch once and then forget about it, ( really who in this forum watch those extras on the dvds more than once???), HD DVD and Blu Ray are too expensive right now besides i dont have an HDTV, and people have watched movies on DVD and VHS for years and years and nobody has ever complained about the quality of the movies (at least on dvds..), as long as dvd looks good i dont reallly care to pay extra $10-15 for the same movie (only fancier)
regular fucking DVD, the most versatile of them all.
Wouldn't the HD DVD version be more versatile since it has the regular DVD version on the other side of the disc?

While I'm not going to debate about how much better something does or doesn't look on blu ray or hd dvd, if you got an hdtv and either a blu ray player or hd dvd player, why wouldn't get it on that format. And to answer the guy about one day shipping, it should arrive Tusday if you order it tonight, as it will probably ship out early monday morning.

Absolutely. The HD DVD version is definitely the one to get. It has features/content that are exclusive to it and not even on Blu Ray. Not to mention it has the standard DVD version on the other side, so you can watch it wherever you're at. I'm very much looking forward to it.
This is one movie where I wish I had HD-DVD/Blu Ray.

Since I have neither, I'll be getting it on DVD.
You can always buy the HD DVD version, which has the standard DVD on one side and the HD side on the other, and then someday when you get an HD player you won't have to rebuy the movie.

I severly cut down my DVD buying habits since this format war is going on. I figured that I will wait to see who will win: Blueray or HD-DVD.

Neither will in. DVD is killing both of them and will continue to do so for a very long time. HDTV penetration is nowhere near what it needs to be for either format to take over the reigns from DVD. Most folks are content with DVD and don't feel its worth upgrading.

Enjoy either while you can because it is, and will continue to be, a niche product until HD downloads become more mainstream.

oh i didn't know this movie was like that. good to know then...HD-DVD ftw!

I'm going the way of the CAG and getting the regular 1-disc dvd version because its cheap and I really don't care for the extra crap.

Proly going for the HD-dvd for when I get a 360 hd-dvd player when the price drops. One the plus side I can watch the standard verison until the price drop. I used to like extras on dvds but then I started watching them, and over time they become the same "this is how we make the movie, or where the story comes from etc."

Only way I'll buy a special edition now if it comes with something extra. Like Blade Trinity SE came with a comic book, and two discs. The comic book is what made me spend the extra $3 to buy it.

I think Best Buy has a little helmet available with purchase of a DVD, if I remember the ad correctly, so I'll get what ever version I have to buy to get the helmet. I got a Mr. Potato Head Spider Man and a Woot.com flying monkey I need to put that helmet on. I just hope it's not attached to a stupid stand or is lacking a chin strap.

Blu-ray here also.

I thought about HD-DVD, but I don't like spending extra for "combo" discs when that is the only way it's going to be sold. I'd rather have the option to get a combo disc rather than be forced to spend the extra $8-10 whether I want SD or not.

At this point, I'm probably only going to do HD-DVD if there's an exclusive that I want, or the quality or features are that much better than BR.

You realize there are features on the HD DVD version that are exclusive to it. Things the BR version cannot do because the BR spec is not finalized yet.

Also, the price difference between the 2 is most like $4, not $8-$10. Buy off of amazon, as they have the cheapest prices.

Blu-Ray all the way.

1) I hate double sided discs with a fiery passion
2) I'm not buying any stand alone High Def player any time soon or an addon for just movies (Since I buy very few movies)
3) It looks too good not to buy it in High Def if you have the means to play it

Looked at the HD-DVD exclusive content but nothing really seemed interesting to me since I'm generally not into most extra content anyways. So I'd go with blu-ray even if I had an HD-DVD player for the sole fact that I loath double sided discs.

DVD for me. I dont plan on getting a high-def player until I get a high-def TV first, which isn't high on my list since I dont watch much TV nor have a next-gen system.

This is also the reason why I chose to go with Planet Earth DVD and not high-def.
Pssft... I bought a $400 PS3 I'm gonna make use of it damn it.

wow... blu ray kickin some major ass. lool
I think this movie will be a pretty big deciding factor for Bluray and HDDVD. Which will sell more?

If were talking game consoles here... I think the clear winner will be PS3. That's funny because there's millions (including me) that have a 360. There's no fucking way I'm gonna buy a stupid ass "add-on" just to play movies when I don't even watch that much movies. Anyway, yeah if there was ever a movie I wanted to see and get in hi def this would pretty much be it. xD

On a side note... this does seem to suggest a little more steam for the PS3 as well.

If I had spent $600 on a PS3 I would be wanting content to use with it as well.
But since I haven't, I will stick with the HD version.

Yeah, I had to go to five stores before finding a Blu Ray version, and even then, Wal-Mart had two left. It was only $24.99, not bad at all.
