johnmirra

CAGiversary!
Idk if anyone saw the ad on tv but k-mart (yeah i know hehe) has a 32 inch olevia lcd on sale for 500 bucks. i want a hi def tv for mt 360 and ps3 i wish i knew the model for you guys but can anyone help me on if olevia is a decent brand, or should i wait a little while for something better? thanks

after doing a little research it may or may not have a tuner which would be a problem since i dont have the digital cable bax in the room the tv will be in so idk if it would work for me
I have a 26"Olevia (226V) and love it. Great tv and it was only $400 6 months ago. I believe the 32" at Kmart is the 232V. You won't find any info on the Olevia site for the 2 series.

Here's Circuit City's page for it:

yes i have that TV as well for 400 bucks at Compusa. The tv is pretty awesome as bedroom TV and great picture. I would highly highly recommend olevia as a great alternative. If you need a hdtv but u dont need a hdtv tuner, i would check this TV out for 600 bucks. It's a 37 inch Olevia.

Hmm... I wonder if that's good in store as well.

too bad newegg has the worst TV return policy ever. They expect you to get the UPS guy to stay there while you unpack and hook up the TV. then if it doesn't work, you would need to repack it and send it back with him.

when I got my TV delivered, I told the UPS guy about this (knowing he wouldn't go for it) and he just laughed and said "yeah, right."

I got an Olevia 527v from them, it's a 27in, and it was great at HD (though there was some very slight ghosting) and it was worse than my 16 year old tube TV at SD. so no DVDs, no regular tv (besides animated shows), and no non-hd video games looked good on it. backgrounds and moving images blurred like crazy. LCDs already aren't supposed to look the best in SD, but the 527v has an inherently messed up chip set so SD looks extra bad-- heavy ghosting, constant "snow" in the background, very drab colors etc. Needless to say, I sold it off right away. This problem isn't on the 232v, but it seems like Olevias always get a lot of mixed reviews on AVS.

Do yourself a favor and heavily research your purchase before you jump into it. don't go by a few user reviews on the web, go to AVS and read everything you can on it, because people there really break down the pros and cons.
the reviews on the 232v are kinda mixed at AVS--

I'm with Chacrana (who warned me before I got my Olevia)--save up a few more bucks or wait until other brands drop in price.

yeah they do rage from one end of the spectrum to the other, i guess ill just wait it out a little and get a better brand once they get a little cheaper

Good idea. IMO, the best compromise between price and performance would be Sharp's line of LCDs.

I own the 232v and I really like it. But if you can wait...wait until May/June/July. The "newer" model tv's should be out for most brands and the previous models would be cheaper.

Since it's a nice chunk of change...check it out at CC. Play w/it as much as possible to see if you really want it.

That's why you should read reviews on the specific model that you're looking at. Personally, I love my 42" Olevia 542i. It's got great picture for both HD and SD, and it's got a QAM tuner so I can pick up some HD channels over my standard cable. Also, games look awesome.

yeah, most people say the 232v looks bad with sd and since i dont have the comcast cable box in my room i would onlt get sd channels so it looks like im holding off for now. It is tough though considering it is such a great price

With a QAM tuner, do you get the HD versions of local channels like Fox and NBC? If that's the case, I'll pick one of those up for my computer... you don't have to play extra other than the standard cost of cable, correct?

Totally agree. I have a Sharp Aquos and I LOVE it

yeah i guess i cant even truely afford the cheap one right now soo ill wait it out, i just wanna see my damn ps3 in hi def already

alright one more update, i may be able to pick this up and i need to know if i can out it on layaway at the sale price

They didn't last long at all, I bought one Sunday, was in there Monday and there were gone.

It's a nice TV, great picture

At my K-Mart their using another TV in place of the sold out one though

they didnt give me a chance on the phone to ask anything about it, oh well kinda pisses me off that it went that fast what did they have 3 in stock, if your gonna run a sale have some of the damned item in stock

Yes. Without paying anything extra, I get ABC (great for Lost), Fox (great for the tons of shows I watch on Fox), NBC (bleh), CBS (MARCH MADNESS), a sports channel called VS Sports, and a local HD channel. I also get a lot of other digital channels that don't come in analog so I never got them on my old tv. This is all with my standard 60 channel-or-so cable.

I bought the Olevia 32 inch, first model back in October 2005 (the one with the huge crescent shaped stand) and have had absolutely no problem with the thing. HD content looks just as good, if not a little better than many of its pricier counterparts.

Content in 480p looks exceptional as well, but anything composite or even S-video looks a little blurred out. Don't be hooking up a VCR or old school game system up to this thing. But is has VGA and DVI in (the new models might have HDMI, not certain) and 2 component hookups, perfect for my setup (Xbox 360 VGA, Mac Mini DVI, PS2 and Wii component) If you're looking for a good HD screen for a den or your bedroom, you can't go wrong considering the price.

While that does suck, it does say

Limited Quanities, While Supplies Last, No Rainchecks.

You should go to the store though, and see if they subsituted another tv in it's place

if they did its probably of less quality then the original which by some peoples assesment was questionable. Ill just end up waiting now, thanks for all the help everyone

How do Olevia's hold up as PC monitors?

i'm looking to get a monitor that can also have a console hooked up to it.

My 232v is used as a secondary (vga) and not bad at all. I use it mainly to watch dvd's and divx files. Text is crisp and clear.

1360x768@60mhz is what I have it running on. I believe it's native. I'm running a 7900 gtx. I plan on switching to dvi-hdmi but the 2x1 switcher is sold out for now on monoprice. So in a week or two, that'll change.

I play Oblivion on my 226v all the time, I run it via a DVI to HDMI cable and it looks beautiful. I think when I upgrade to a bigger LCD this summer that 26" will be my new monitor.
not too bad, is microcenter a b&m retailer cuz if so there are none in my area
I have the same HDTV and I love it. Micro Center has a web site and will ship. Just google it and you'll find it.
